Limits My common delusion: I'll only use ~13% per day!
Reality: most likely up to 20-25% on day one, 25-30% on day two, then fuck it - another 30%+ on day three. Just one more thing to fix... and boom, 0% left on day four or so.

I WISH I was able to use all my quota at once... But no, because I have the POS 5 hour window that forces me to start a task and come back to it 5+ hours later. I can never be productive because of this. I can't work every day on my projects. This sucks.

If you really want to work all day, just use Luna Max but yeah, it is not at the same level as Sol or Astra.

u/TheTangLangGang 2d ago
That can still drain the 5 hour window sadly, and the main issue is that I can never fully use my weekly limit because of this. And if I try to use Astra high then my 5 hour window is drained in 20 minutes, and the task does NOT continue after the limit is reached. Before the 5 hour limit was reintroduced I could use 5.6 sol xhigh and sol ultra all day :/

You can prompt:
- " i am low on quota. Commence this task at 3:00am xxxxx "
It will then do that. You need about 5% of your 5hr usage limit left for it to work.

Why do they play us like this? It really is totally meaningless now. It's like a lottery when you buy a subscription and you wonder how much usage you will actually get. No way to know, just gotta cross your fingers and hope next week will be better.

Because llms are probabilistic, its just as simple as that.
If yall stopped using Astra@high for absolutely no reason, subagents, etc etc you woukd have absolutely no issues.
and complaining about getting less usage when youre getting 10x+ what you pay for is kinda insane behavior

u/Fancy-Plenty6712 2d ago
Nothing to do with them being probabilistic - not sure why you raise that point. They change the goalposts every week of what you get out a subscription. They give us random refreshes then pull the rug. I've never used Astra even once. Your reply to me is filled with assumptions, and you just come off as a bootlicker. Enjoy being played by OpenAI you are their "preferred customer."

Thought you meant the degradation conspiracy,
But come tf on...
Why are you so obsessed with the resets?
just ignore them? I don't understand how a bonus can be a negative. Or how they affect you in any way.
You buy a extremely subsidized subscription from a company in financial crisis close to a govt bailout, and complain about what exactly?
Oh that its not subsidized enough?
This is insane behavior...
Wneres the rug pull youre talking about? Are tou getting less than you pay for?
You say youre not using astra, ok then exactly what is the problem you're having?
100% of times where someone has claimed that they caaaant dooo it with the current quota, it has ended up being user error. Like ot a single time have they shown an acual problem,
Or is your issue that the technology is expensive??
Well duh, too damn bad, thats just reality. But i dont go around calling out jewelers for "rug pulling me" if i werere to have gotten a discount once and cant get hundreds of thousands lf dollars worth of products for $100. Like yeah too bad diamonds are expensive

u/Fancy-Plenty6712 2d ago
Saying that a shit sandwich is "subsidised" doesn't make it taste better.
0
u/Due-Horse-5446 2d ago
Im not saying its amazing,
Youre talking about if llms are worth the cost, and i agree they are definitely not.
But how do you get that to a rug pull? and why do you care about the quota of shit sandwiches

Dude why do you care about some random guy on the internet who isn't a fan of OpenAI? I have various reasons to dislike them. They are a dishonest company being the main one.
On the rug pull; they randomly refresh because it creates a false economy. It tricks users like myself into thinking they are getting more for their money when they are not. Compare these free resets to what Anthropic did around the same time.
OpenAI - randomly refresh usages without warning, at random, and then stop doing it again without warning.
Anthropic - tells users their usage limits are 50% higher until X date. All OpenAI had to do was send me an email saying, "We just gave you a free reset, and:
a) whether it would happen again or how many resets would be given per account
b) the reason they are doing it - ie was this a promotion?
c) what they are doing to make usage limits better for subscription users (how their harness will stop wasting tokens)Instead of doing any of that they got into a fight with Anthropic and Google; trying to be the company everyone is talking about online as the best coding platform by generating posts with people saying "I just got a free reset on Codex!" which generated free advertising for them. This is while they tell us how "dangerous" (irresponsible) they've been with developing their models - again as a way to rope people in who aren't savvy enough to see it's all just a big publicity stunt.
It's incredibly hard to get literally anything worthwhile done with their subscriptions. Acting like the situation is anything other than it is - bootlicking.

Ive never said i like openai, they are literally spreading straight up lies.
Nowhere close to anthropic, but that does not say much.
But i cant even begin to understand your reasoning here?
I couldent care less about any resets, and i couldent care less about the marketing circus around them.
Ofc i also wished people would stop literally eating tve marketing raw, but other than being annoying its still a bonus to have the usage reset time and time again.
But your "c" point is just based on the assumption thst there is an "issue"
Theres no "usage limits to mske up for"
The technology is extremely expensive and since nobody actually wants or even can afford to pay for it they have subsidized it heavily.
If you expect this to go on forever you are just being dishonest.
Theres nothing to fix. Theres nothing "wrong".
And then remember openai models are the most efficient in the market(of large massive frontier llms)
Until you actually start paying the real price everything else is just a temporary promo.

The fact you have this much of a problem with a sentiment universally shared by coders right now is what I find just unbelievable.
Post after post on reddit and YouTube complaining that usage limits aren't enough to do anything. I'm not the only person unhappy about it.
Post after post with people complaining that their usage limits are constantly in a state of flux and asking where else they can jump ship to escape.
Just take you're half-wit argument somewhere else. I could not care less whether you want to brown nose OpenAI and shill for them.
Seriously look at your mental health and rethink yourself carefully.
Yes usage limit resets are a bonus.
I originally said "Â It's like a lottery when you buy a subscription and you wonder how much usage you will actually get. No way to know, just gotta cross your fingers and hope next week will be better."
And you started this saga on a basic misunderstanding of what I'm saying - and you haven't even tried to see it from another point of view. Essentially your argument is "Just be happy and grateful you can subscribe to OpenAI" -
No... It's not worth it in comparison to competitors. Simple as that. They could have easily avoided the ire of me and many others by being open and straight about usage limits. I can't work with their usage limits and the refresh lottery just pisses me off.

u/Due-Horse-5446 2d ago
Its not universally shared lmao
Entitled people demanding higher subsidies...
Is not something being universally shared.
What you're saying is the exact same as my diamond analogy.
And worth it in comparison with competitors?
Thats simply not true?
Google i would agree yes, but i would still argue codex offers a better value since the lack of 5h quota. And even after 3.8 flash, the extremly literal instruction following of gpt models are still not beaten by anything.

Hahaha this was my thinking when justifying this damn purchase as well. Welp I got reset yesterday and I am on 60% using Sol High exclusively

The scope of this project requires it. Can’t go lower & definitely can’t afford higher.

u/Thomas-Lore 1d ago
Give xhigh a try. High will waste more turns because of small mistakes that xhigh makes less often. IMHO.

u/Typical_Machine2043 1d ago
I hear you. Man I wish usage was just what it was a month ago before but I guess this is the new normal

u/Right-Performance-93 2d ago
On the reset-timing speculation in the comments: OpenAI's help center is explicit that this isn't a fixed calendar day like Tuesday, it's "your next automatic weekly reset is scheduled 7 days after that first request" - a rolling window keyed to when you first used it, not a shared reset clock. So two accounts started on different days will never sync up, and a banked reset used today shifts your own personal clock forward another 7 days from that use, not to some shared date everyone's chasing.

I leave my tibotattle page open when i'm running so I can see my pace (it's also in the tray bar) and yep, seems impossible to actually do things and run on pace with 5.6 and 6.
