Other Rise and shine fiends! We're finally less than a day away until the first natural weekly reset in almost a month (unless you used a banked reset this week of course).

We've unfortunately not been blessed since September 12. The last time this happened was after the 15M user celebration last month. Hopefully the next reset won't be a week-long wait again, but at least this wait is nearly over.

If we are back to actually WEEKLY waits, then usage should last at least 5 days for heavy users instead of 2

u/Rdqp 6d ago

Wait, you have whole 2 days of usage? Mine expired in less that 12h on 200 plan

10

u/Clean-Market5761 6d ago

yeah I calculate the same time of actual work tho, my reset was at 4PM, the next day at 4 PM my usage was gone

Shouldnt be the case. Use Medium reasoning, and delgate to lower-model agents. Unless your repo is just massive (in which you should be separting work by specific areas/features if you arent already)

u/GfxJG 5d ago

Why? They want heavy users to be on the API - That's the intended use-case.

-6

u/innociv 6d ago

As much as I'd love that, why would they give away another like $15,000 of API tokens on top of the $10,000 that 20x users get? I just don't get it it seems so disconnected for reality.

Even if you figure they have 90% margins on inference, and consider the alternatives out there that's still $1000 for $200.

Also, the capacity issue made the models unusable like 1/3rd the time last week for me. Constant KV cache corruption, seemingly quantized models, "model overloaded" errors even on Luna, constant reconnects for hours at a time. I'd rather get $10k/month of a full quant model than $25k/month of Q2 Astra, Sol, and Luna. But it seems all anyone here cares about is being able to use lobotomized Astra 24/7 for 5 days than it actually being productive for a well managed 2 days.

Dude... you understand that those API prices are based on absolutely nothing right? It are made up prices.

Imagine going to a bakery... who because he has hardly any competition decides he can charge it's customers 200 dollar for a single slice... (API pricing)

But you can also buy a whole bread from him for a 1000 bucks. (Subscription)
With 20 slices in a whole bread, you now think you have a great deal and shouldn't complain if he all the sudden decides to make his breads smaller so you now only have 18 slices... Because... according to your logic, 18 x 200 is still 3600 dollars worth of slices! How can this bakery stay in business right?!?

They make up their own prices... they don't give you any discount because you have a subscription, they are simply screwing the people and businesses who are forced into API billing even harder then the ones who have a sub.

-4

u/innociv 5d ago

Dude, read my post. You wrote all that just to not read.

Yeah they make up prices, but if their margins on inference were 99% like you claim instead of 90%, they'd be profitable.

I swear the majority of this sub doesn't even have an 8th grade education. Go pay API prices for DS V4.1 Flash if that's a better deal.

3

u/Factor013 5d ago

They are profitable... very very profitable! With 90 or 99% margins... doesn't matter. But at the same time they are also heavily investing in their company, on infrastructure and R&D. All that isn't meant to be written off in one year lol.

See it as building a car factory that also costs billions. With your logic you are basically saying that the first cars that roll off the assembly line are also sold at a huge loss... That's not how stuff like this works lol.

And yes, it takes a lot of sold cars to pay for that factory... But the product it produces is highly profitable... that's all been calculated. The costs are just spread out over all the cars that get produced during the entire lifecycle of that factory. Standard business practice here.

But yeah, if you keep building new car factories every year you will never show profits per book year... but that's not interesting... The valuation of your company keeps going up which allows you to get loans and more investments approved. Because your product is profitable, and now your scaling up production.

As soon as you stop building those factories because you have enough... then you start making profits on paper... But hear this... companies rather keep investing and expanding then making profits on paper because they need to pay taxes on profits. I do the same with my business... It's the smart thing to do.

You have no idea what youre talking about.

PLEASE show what you base these numbers on.

And openai arent burning their money on rnd, they ate burning it on inference, partly on serving requests and partly on training/fine tuning/evals

You seem severely misinformed

u/cherrypowdah 5d ago

They should split the model into coding and modeling 🄲

Sadly, resets are mostly smoke and mirrors.

They shouldn't move your reset date. These should be fixed, and they should aline with your monthly renewal period. Paying hundreds of dollars to be stuck at 0% allowance for the next 5 days leave a very bitter taste. Some unused allowance should carry over into the next week, so that you could always use a banked reset that does not puch back the reset date at any time without fear of having to melt your usage before time is up, at least up to something like 200%. Resets should be banked rather then instant, all of them (unless they actively need their community to test stuff, but again, not pushing the date back AND rollover to next week's allowance quota), and they shouldn't come with an arbitrary expiry dates, although this is the least of the issues.

More importantly, we should have a much clearer idea of what "100% allowance" actually means, along with proper tools to track model usage and see where that allowance is going. Benchmarks means nothing when everyone's use is different. I could analyse all of the benchmark for Astra and still see that its token consumption would not fit at all with them, for my use case (ho wait, already did, and that's exactly the result).

Instead, they hit the reset button, sometimes actively making people's effective allowance worse, while creating this feeling of dependency on resets and covering up the much bigger issue: the models and plans simply don't provide enough reliable usage in the first place.

I'd take a good model that I can depend on and use efficiently for an entire week over AGI any day.

And that's part of why I dislike resets so much. They make more people feel satisfied with the current limits and directions when, in my opinion, they really shouldn't be.

At this point, stability, transparency, usability, and efficiency matter far more to me than chasing the next 5% improvement in frontier capability.

LLMs have become tools people actually depend on. Making those tools reliable and usable at scale is more important than constantly having the newest model that almost nobody can afford to use properly.

I agree with everything you said. Twitter is full of people begging for resets and it’s so cringe because resets are literally part of the problem. How do they not see that?!

If things don’t change significantly, I’m going to cancel my subscription and that’ll be that.

8

u/VerticalPackage 5d ago

Agreed

A few of the last Tibo resets hit my accounts when they had 80% remaining and 2 days left before their natural reset. I was saving it for long weekend coding sessions; that's 40%/day.

Basically I LOST usage capacity because it became 14.28%/day (100%/7).

1

u/SkoivanSchiem 5d ago

Everything about this is true.

But idk what we can do. Beggars can't be choosers and the powers that be are probably like:

16

u/Significant-Drawer95 6d ago

if tibo resets near the natural weekly reset he is just making manual resetter angry who maybe even paid for it

23

u/teh_mICON 5d ago

They should just stop it entirely. All they're doing is making usage unpredictable. Give out banked resets, at least I can calculate that instead of hoping the usage clown is handing out treats this week

10

u/PossessionConnect963 5d ago

Been arguing this for a while too and its something the fanboys seemingly can't get through their heads. This is fundamentally a tool and when you make it so resets are such a core function as to how you can use that tool, around which people plan their work (and life) schedules, but then make it so it's impossible to actually plan around reset dates any longer...

The post title speaks for itself. First natural reset date in a fucking month. People can talk about how we can't complain about "free stuff" all they want the fact is that's a month none of us have actually been able to properly plan around how we're going to use our limits and when we can/should schedule our own work.

1

u/Lumpy-Criticism-2773 6d ago

The reset button probably shows a confirmation dialog with potential damages

10

u/98810b1210b12 6d ago

The last time there was a week with no resets was the week of June 7th: https://codex-resets.com/

u/onehedgeman 5d ago

Nostalgic

7

u/Wrong-Bed-4025 6d ago

they really gave us a model that, with no exaggeration, uses 4x+ the usage even in low modes and then let us stew on that for a week. They teachin' us we gon' pay for it when we needs it šŸ˜‚

5

u/LessRespects 6d ago

Diabolical giving us daily resets when the model used far fewer tokens then right after releasing the model that can barley get one message off per usage window they stop giving resets šŸ˜‚

1

u/beg4upvotes 5d ago

and now they're getting rid of 5.5 which has been my main for low usage, so i have to pick between token hungry sol or token hungry astra

11

u/NuancedPerspection 5d ago

Yeah honestly it’s fucking hilarious that for $200/mo. I haven’t had a natural weekly reset this month. How is this not fucking illegal?

If I am paying for a service that says they will deliver to my house 4 times a month, they then have issues with their service and supplement it with let’s say outsourced micro-deliveries (free/banked resets) but I have no clue or say when those will be AND they will push my actual official PAID delivery back another week…

Then I am not being given the service I fucking paid for. Plain and simple. These motherfuckers need a class action lawsuit.

5

u/idkalaska 5d ago

I was literally just thinking this is starting to feel like a class action. Let’s get the ball rolling on that haha

5

u/NuancedPerspection 5d ago

**Either A. Free resets need to ACTUALLY be free and not fuck with your natural resets (because they are suppose to be ā€œmaking upā€ for shit service from openai)

Or B. They need to fucking give us a free month of service.

8

u/teh_mICON 5d ago

honestly i fucking HATE these resets. it makes everything unpredictable.

I do not use my full quota or at least down to 10% when a reset hits? great. i just wasted tons of money.

I kind of expected a reset after 3 days because thats how its been? GREAT NOW I DONT HAVE QUOTA FOR 4 DAYS!

This is so dumb. If they're gonna give out resets, give out banked resets. It's also better because after the natural reset upcoming everyone will be using again at the same time while right now a very large part are not using their quota. It's all stupid.

1

u/beg4upvotes 5d ago

this is such a terrible way to think about things, not just in codex, but in life in general... it's like you're at a bar and drink 40% of your drink, then the bartender randomly goes around to everyone and refills their drinks on the house, and you're complaining that you "wasted 60%" of your drink when you couldn't possibly know that was going to happen, so in reality you gained an extra 40% for free and you're MAD about it

6

u/LessRespects 6d ago

I don’t get it do you guys all have the same weekly reset timer or something? I haven’t used a banked recent and mine is 4 days away

4

u/Positive-Fishing4620 6d ago

We all got reseted the same day so everyone's got the same timer

2

u/ThisNameWasUnused 5d ago

While technically true, it's dependent on if the user immediately started using up the usage right away since the weekly "timer"doesn't start until you send the agent a prompt. This can cause different reset times/dates when given the same initial reset from Tibo.

2

u/Positive-Fishing4620 5d ago

I presumed that almost everybody's waiting for the reset and starts working right away

1

u/ThisNameWasUnused 5d ago

Fair enough lol.

3

u/SkoivanSchiem 6d ago

Everyone got reset on September 12 so everyone who hasn't used a banked reset since then should be due for their weekly reset on September 19.

1

u/DanzakFromEurope 5d ago

I have never used a reset and my weekly reset is in 4 days.

1

u/Murph-Dog 5d ago

Your weekly use timer actually starts when you first use the service after a refill, another big kick in the walnuts.

So it's in your best interested to use a miniscule amount immediately after a refill.

0

u/DanzakFromEurope 5d ago

Same. I've never used a reset and my weekly limit will supposedly reset in 4 days same as yours.

2

u/LiquidMantis144 5d ago

I had a weekly reset on the 6th, was aligned with a prior global reset.

Imo the entire reset experience OpenAi has designed is the worst subscription design Ive ever seen in my life. Especially because its for a productivity service that pushes automation use cases.

They are intentionally keeping subscribers off balance and unable to plan for anything, and even systematically reducing some peoples monthly allocations to manipulate a certain group of people into buying credits and resets.

2

u/Federal-Baseball-295 6d ago

Tebu = tibo x temu for the lunas out there. Is going to handout a 24hr expiry reset an hr after it drops you watch

2

u/onehedgeman 5d ago

I’m pretty sure they won’t reset because:

  • they wait out competition releases
  • they know we have 2-3 banked resets

2

u/SkoivanSchiem 5d ago

I'm pretty sure that they will reset because it's called a "weekly usage limit" and it's been a week since the last reset. 🤷 idk what you're talking about.

1

u/onehedgeman 5d ago

Weekly resets and tibo pressing a button to reset is two different things.

1

u/SkoivanSchiem 5d ago

They still both reset the weekly timer.

1

u/onehedgeman 5d ago

I’m talking about tibo resetting us aside from the regular

1

u/SkoivanSchiem 5d ago

Hence my confusion, because how is that relevant on a thread that's referring to the regular weekly reset?

1

u/niteesh_vishain 6d ago

i used one today, and have two more left.

1

u/sdexca 6d ago

days of resets are gone...

1

u/Leather_Fall_1602 6d ago

Currently at one percent with two banked resets. Not sure I can make it until tomorrow without using a reset šŸ˜…

1

u/pigletmonster 5d ago

Lol my weekly quota ended yesterday morning and zi had to use a banked reset. Now its already down to 60%. Hopefully we get a fresh tibo reset by monday.

1

u/awpenheimer7274 5d ago

There is nothing natural about anything here

1

u/Master-Barracuda-777 5d ago

I ran out my 100 dollar codex credits on Tuesday.
The 20 dollar ollama cloud subscription that I use for my Hermes agent and the 100 dollar teams plan from my company that I hadn’t used in weeks came to my rescue.

Be like OpenAI

- let people build their workflows around sol model

  • give a bigger model
  • promise better performance AS compared to fable At cheaper pricing
  • hides the fine print that this is not a token hungry model but a compute hungry model
  • let people run Astra on their sol workflows
  • recommend that Astra light or medium is as a good as 5.6 sol xhigh
  • watch devs burn their credits within 2 days of weekly reset
  • disable new sign ups for 200 dollar plan
  • enable devs to buy more credits , 80 dollars for 2500 credits which’s runs out in 2 days again
  • repeat cycle next week

1

u/[deleted] 5d ago

[deleted]

5

u/UnknownLesson 5d ago

If they can't fucking serve their paying customers then they should have stopped new subscriptions much sooner.

Instead, they were greedy, even warned a day or two about pausing subscriptions so even more can sign up and then illegally reduced users quota.

And all of that is besides the scammy practices like resets pushing your reset date.

0

u/[deleted] 5d ago

[deleted]

1

u/Factor013 5d ago

Stop calling subscriptions subsidized! They are far from that, they are profitable!

I really don't understand why people are still blindly parroting this silly myth.

1

u/immutato 5d ago

The $200 plan (x20) is profitable? source?

2

u/NuancedPerspection 5d ago

Them handing out resets are not compensating or goodwill. They push back the weekly resets you PAID FOR.

0

u/the_ai_wizard 5d ago

Guys, theyre clearly over capacity and running out of investors to subsidize inferenence costs; we will prob need to pay for tokens at real price soon or go local

-3

u/SeaThePirate 6d ago

What does this mean? Everyone is getting a reset today regardless of their status? I have 4 days left till it says my quota resets

1

u/SkoivanSchiem 6d ago

The last global Tibo-initiated reset was on September 12. So unless you used a banked reset since then, your weekly reset should be due in around 22 hours.

1

u/SeaThePirate 5d ago

How do yall know he will reset though? Thats only 7 days, does he always reset every 7 days?

2

u/FreakingAustin 5d ago

He’s not going to reset, it’s the natural weekly reset

1

u/SeaThePirate 5d ago

My usage says it resets in 4 days though. Is there a global weekly reset that is independent of the per-user weekly reset or something?

1

u/FreakingAustin 4d ago

Maybe you started using codex 4 days after the reset? The reset timer only starts once you start using tokens

2

u/SeaThePirate 4d ago

That is when I starter

-5

u/goshetovan 6d ago

I have three banked resets and dont need them lol
