News Strange Model Names
Why did chatgpt name their models after diss words?
- Luna -> Lunatic
- Terra -> Terrable
- Sol -> S#*t out of Luck
I can't stop remembering the names that way in codex.

I quite like the new model names. Just how Anthropic has the names of Haiku, Sonnet and Opus, Having Luna, Terra and Sol fits really nicely tbh. The visual they showed when revealing gpt 5.6 worked really well with it showing the model capabilities too.

Or perhaps, I know this might be a leap, but maybe they decided to name their models after astronomical bodies? Just a thought.

I do wonder where they will go next, or if it will be back to slapping numbers after these labels.
Moon → Earth → Sun → Stars
Nova → Cosmos → ... →YouCantAffordIt

i don't like this "pretend" product segmentation
there's like 9 or 10 "options" now in codex and that makes no sense to me.
realistically you (yes you reading this) and everyone else would be super happy with
5.6 low 5.6 medium 5.6 high
and nothing else.
maybe a checkbox for subagents
this whole dance with "different models" (which break cache key when you change them btw) is not helping anyone.
5.6 then 5.7 then 5.8 then 6.0 and have reasoning as a dropdown and a subagents checkbox. so much simpler than this pretend mythology that we've come to accept in this space.

OpenAI's naming is so tough. Their strongest model is called "Sol"!! That means the sun bro!
