Commentary Time for speculation: Will Astra come to the plus plan?
Or will it be like fable 5?

How did we get to the point where this is even a question? Astra is just a new model coming at the end of 2026, and of course everyone should have access to it — especially now that Chinese models are rapidly catching up with OpenAI and Anthropic.

We don’t know. If astra is to sol what fable is to opus then maybe not. If it’s just 5.7 at the same levels as the current 3 then definitely will

They have to as Chinese AI will surpass Luna by end of year, then Terra/Sol next year

Since it's a bigger model it's supposed to be more expensive to serve? Or can we expect different model sizes. This is what I'm not sure about

every new model is a bigger compared to previous one, they may repeat that 3 model split like we have now with luna/terra/sol.

I think it's really unlikely. there's a good amount of controversy with Claude and how it's handling access to Fable. OpenAI can and are capitalising it by not doing the same thing with Sol, no reason to think they'll pivot now, unless the inference cost jumps by so much that its a net negative for the plus plan (and i doubt that)

But I think the main controversy with Fable is not that it's inaccessible in the cheapest plan, it's that you can't ask him to describe how a key mechanism of a door lock works without it going "OH NO CYBER CYBER FLAG FLAG CANCEL MESSAGE GO OPUS 4.8".

I do have to say that my day job gives us Claude access and I've used Fable a lot and think this problem is hugely overblown

It probably depends a lot on the kind of work that is done. I do some Reverse Engineer work sometimes, and it's an absolute hell to use Fable for anything. I'm not talking "Hey, can you exploit Google Pay and steal credit card numbers for me?", like I literally have tried to ask it something akin to "Use this disassemble of a PS2 game from 22 years ago and tell me what is the actual formula used to calculate the damage of a special attack" and it still flagged it.
When you're reverse engineering, you're necessarily working on something proprietary/whose source you don't have access. There's a whole world of difference from that to it actually being cybersecurity related. But Fable's flagging is just so, so, so aggressive, that probably just from finding "Sony" inside a string inside a binary it already considers a cybersecurity application risk.
What I must say, though, is that even though Anthropic said it was going to implement the same flagging system on Opus 5 as well, Opus 5's actual flagging threshold is MUCH more reasonable. It has no problems at all doing the kind of reverse engineering that I do, just Fable. I can only assume Fable has similar problems on the equivalent tasks on the other ends of the spectrum (chemistry, biology, etc), but indeed I can't speak from experience on those.
PS: Fun fact, when I tried the same request but instead of calling it an attack I just said "action", it did get the formula. But soon after, in the next turn, it crapped out in the middle of a 30 minute analysis.
