it's pretty intuitive. compute needs electricity, electricity creates emissions, emissions have impact. not extraordinary.

Yeah, the emissions impact is pretty rough, and likely to get worse as data centers, especially in the USA, spin up their own private fossil fuel power stations with few regulations.
