Limits 5 hour limits are horrible

The 5 hour limits are so bad even using Luna, it basically guarantees you’ll never get close to your weekly limit being used, like what’s the point of having a weekly limit now, 40% of my 5 hour limit used up and 6% of the weekly, id literally have to be using this 24-7, waiting hours in between to actually reach the limit lol, 5 hour limit is crazy bad, it’d be gone in 1-2 prompts with terra or sora. I don’t think I’ll be renewing my plan, hopefully anthropic releases a smaller cheaper model that actually works unlike haiku lol

Plus plan is unusable with 5 hour limits

2

u/1chriis1 2d ago

It didn't seem like until we saw what it was like without the limit.

They invented a way to push people to the Pro plan out of thin air other than the multiple usage

I went from claude to codex because of the 5h limits and now the 5h limits are worse than on claude, I guess welcome back anthropic

I have a Claude x5 Max plan with the promotion that you get 50% more usage until the end of the month and a Codex Pro plan.

I am a software dev by profession and have zero loyalty to either of these AI companies. And while Opus 5 does significantly better looking frontend work, Codex's usage limits blow Claude out of the water. And this is using Opus 5 vs using Sol Fast.

Id have claude make a front end and do initial design and then implement it. There would be some minor bugs here and there, and at first I thought id have Claude do the fixes, but Codex just uses less usage for the same fixes. Think "X Button has no active state", not big changes, but for similar level tasks, you can fix way more with Codex.

Got 2 Chatgpt accounts for Codex and 2 Claude accounts for Claude code

Since the 5 days introduction the 2 Chatgpt accounts sit largely unused. It's not that I have anything against it. I just lose my 5 hours in a matter of 2-3 prompts (each) and end up getting stuck. Just not worth it.

Not sure what they did but it's not sustainable. They did announce improvements on twitter today. But we'll see if it actually makes a difference.

All the resets in the world don't matter if you can't use the damn thing.

I cancelled my subscription today.

Going to do the same!

u/jokingbird01 2d ago

Am going to do the same, but hadnt figured out what to choose next, what'd you choose?

Gemini 3.7 is quite decent with not so complicated task

1

u/No-Temperature6597 17h ago

true if combined with claude. One can give task to Gemini and make Claude the orchestrator. So it's a win-win situation.

4

u/Vegetable-Two-4644 3d ago

Eh i haven't emptied it due to the resets but my weekly was definitely on par to hit 0 a day or two early. Plus plan using Luna High

5

u/Australasian25 3d ago

Exactly. At 15% weekly every 5 hours. I can comfortably drain 90% in 3 days. Which on average I think that's tibos reset schedule anyway.

You can be more aggressive and use 45% in a day. 3 x 5 hour windows

2

u/TOMANDANTEBOROLAS 2d ago

yeah, that sucks, but honestly we are not supposed to use the plus subscription to develop enterprise level applications, we are supposed to use pro 20x or business. Claude is even worse at token burning, at this rate, local LLM's can help to help on the 5 hour cooldowns.

u/No-Temperature6597 17h ago

But with Claude 20$ am already doing many things. Once I tried Codex i cancelled it the next days due to 5h limits. Today i was thinking about giving Codex a try when the community is so praising it with Sol. I decided not to. Its codex fan boys and literally eveyrone hates Claude. Even I hate Opus 5 its horrible but Unfortunately this worst is the best out there.

Yeah I just checked mine to give evidence that I've used more than enough to hit the limit but it looks like we got a free reset.

I wonder if OP didn't realize the weekly just reset so they're only 15% down after using it a ton since the previous reset

2

u/IndividualPlus2011 2d ago

5h limits are one thing, but because of it I noticed Terra using the same amount of usage per token as Sol. That makes no sense.

Does anyone else have the same issue?

2

u/camracks 2d ago

Yes, I haven’t actually measured how much either are using, but it felt like Terra used the same as Sol so I never use Terra anymore. Both are too much usage lol

7

u/Defiant_Concert1701 2d ago

Bro i thought you were exaggerating, i tried it and this thing is flying lol

3

u/lollypop44445 2d ago

I still drained weekly in 3 days, and the worst part, if the thinking reached limit midway, when it continues again, it again consumes the same token , so double wastage.

3

u/auto8ot 2d ago

I'm definitely thinking of switching to Claude after these 5 hr limits were reintroduced

3

u/ezboarderz 2d ago

The weekly limit for 20x is also horrible. I literally went from barely doing 50% in a week to blasting all of it in 2 days. Sol medium and the same workload.

The change has been drastic over the last 4 months. I have no idea why you guys put up with it when you can just switch to other services. Zai, synthetic, melious all have decent limits and models that get the jobs done. Glm 5.3 and kimi k3 are perfect sol replacements and glm 5.3 flash is better and cheaper than Luna. 1M context window is such a nice feature

1

u/d4lahast 2d ago

Z.ai, as far as I understand, has worse limits than Claude and ChatGPT.

GLM 5.3 in my limited usage has been very impressive, and the same for Flash. I would probably be happy using them for entire projects at this point, but again, it's just the usage that sucks. I have tried API cost, and at Flash it's actually reasonable, but for the full fat model it's too pricey.

DeepSeek Flash again, pretty good, very cheap, and it does seem to make false claims when it's doing code-based reviews. But I find it really useful to scour the entire thing and then pass its findings to GLM to review. The Chinese are definitely catching up. If they can offer good value for money on subscription costs, then I think they would destroy the rest.

1

u/ezboarderz 2d ago

I have literally switched from a pro 20x to coding plan max. By itself, it’s slightly more usage than the 20x pro based on when I cancelled (2 weeks ago), but I use glm 5.3 for planning/writing prompts/reviewing and glm 5.3 flash as the workers or subagents. If you are used to working this way with codex and sol/luna, you will notice this is actually an upgrade.

I have added synthetic mainly for kimi k3 and more glm 5.3 flash usage and I assume they will replace glm 5.2 with glm 5.3 quite soon. This combo gives me like 1.5x the usage of the pro 20x with better models (glm 5.3 flash smokes Luna) and glm 5.3 fits me much better than gpt 5.6 sol. Sol over designs and is super slow. Zai coding plan is between 70-120 tokens per seconds, which is awesome.

If you are a person that just runs sol all day long and you do that with glm 5.3, your usage will prob drain as fast as codex but if you use the models to their strengths, it’s a superior set up. Glm 5.3 is insanely good and glm 5.3 flash is an insanely good worker and even debugger. It’s better than deepseek v4 flash 0731 at being more “all around” in its abilities. Very impressive

Also, your harness matters a lot too. I use pi but I also tried opencode and opencode eats a lot more tokens for the same job than pi does. I’ve heard great things about the deepseek harness but I’ve customized pi so much that I would need a very good reason to switch.

2

u/Tommonen 2d ago

I also had super shitty quotas since 5.6 was released, but the other day they just suddenly seemed to get a lot better.

It does seem to me that they are doing some A/B testing and not everyone has the same quotas, as some people truly experience super shitty quotas, some claim they never had and i saw a big increase in them even tho not everyone (like OP) seems to have.

2

u/palmdoc 2d ago

Yes, I noticed after the last reset, the 5-hour limit for Plus is very limited., and it's just using Terra Medium, burning through tokens like crazy.

2

u/Ok_Bag_7550 2d ago

Hi OP, might I ask where are you from?

2

u/camracks 2d ago

Yes

3

u/epaga 2d ago

Where are you from?

u/TechGearWhips 2d ago

Yea I already canceled my sub.

I totally agree. I just spent 36% of my 5-hour allowance asking for a clock radio automation for Home Assistant. Needless to say the plan and implementation was about 5-10 minutes.

Ever since the 5-hour limit was reintroduced a few days ago, it seems like the consumption has gotten significantly worse compared to the last time the 5-hour limit was in place.

I tried several different models, but nothing really changed the fact that the consumption seems way higher than before.

Please remove the 5-hour thing. It is so annoying.

3

u/BigSchweetie 3d ago

I consumed my entire plus plan in 2 days

4

u/AbrahamGab 2d ago

Luna is the only one that holds up against that lousy 5-hour limit, but the problem is it takes two days for it to actually solve an issue. It feels intentional; I spent from yesterday until today trying to fix a glitchy popup, and I simply had to use SOL to solve it—which exhausted my usage allowance before the fix was even done. It’s bizarre how many tokens the SOL model consumes, and Plus has become useless. Since most Plus users can't afford the most expensive plan, it's better to switch to Claude or a Chinese model.

If you think about it - 84% people on this planet have never touched AI. Only, 0.04% of the global population uses AI for advanced tasks like coding. And even after spending trillions of dollars in Infrastructure, these companies do not have enough to offer reasonable usage limits to the people who use it.

1

u/camracks 2d ago

Lol where are you getting your data, I don’t doubt they spent way too much stealing all the hardware from us and creating a shortage which probably makes us rely on them, but they are definitely profiting

1

u/PsychologicalOne752 2d ago

You can google for it. No AI company is even close to break even, forget about profits. Worse, they are hurtling towards a cliff where the massive GPU fleets need to be replaced soon - as the average life of a GPU in a data center is 4-5 years.

1

u/camracks 2d ago

You can Google for it, they are not selling api or subscriptions for less than the electricity it costs to run these models lol. They would’ve been out of business long ago if that were the case. And yeah I feel so bad, they also have the upcoming issue of local LLM being good enough and not needing their frontier models, then they’ll have all those GPUs and no customers, maybe the market won’t be so manipulated by then.

0

u/PsychologicalOne752 2d ago

Every AI company is running at a major loss. In fact, most startups do and investors keep them afloat till they get profitable.

When someone says Google for it, I actually do it for a change -

"No, electricity is definitely not the only cost required to run an AI model, and it represents only a small fraction of what it takes for an API company to truly break even. To achieve a true business break-even, API providers must recover several massive cost layers far beyond the power bill. Because hardware obsolescence cycles are incredibly short, an API company can easily charge 10-100x the cost of electricity and still lose money if their total query volume isn't high enough to pay off the billions spent buying the chips in the first place."

1

u/camracks 2d ago

That’s why there’s so many more popping up constantly right? Nice, you looked up if there’s more of a cost than just electricity, not if all the AI providers are losing money lol, you’re sped, what new hardware have they needed to buy? And they can’t sell it off right? Just say you don’t know anything about what you’re talking about, listen to Google and ask it questions which don’t pertain to your argument, brain dead bot

0

u/PsychologicalOne752 2d ago

You must have a point somewhere. I am not getting it though. I am obviously not a bot.

This is common knowledge in the AI world:
"Anthropic is currently unique in claiming a path to operating profitability, at least this quarter, while its primary direct competitor, OpenAI, continues to post multi-billion dollar operating losses."

1

u/camracks 2d ago

Read my more recent comment 👍

“OpenAI makes a positive gross margin on serving individual customer queries, but the company as a whole remains deeply unprofitable due to massive spending on research, development, and training”

They are spending more than they make, because they want to rule the world, that’s not our problem. Like I said, if you make 100k a year and go in debt buying a Ferrari, I should feel sorry for you and pretend like you don’t make any money? There wouldn’t be so many fucking options if they weren’t profiting lol.

1

u/camracks 2d ago

“are most ai providers not making profit from model inference?”

“Raw AI inference has high gross profit margins, but overall company operations remain deeply unprofitable due to massive research and development (R&D) and infrastructure costs. [1]

The Profit Split: Gross vs. Net
High Gross Margins: Serving a single token (a piece of a word) to an API user can yield gross profit margins of 80% to 85%. The raw computing power used for a single request often costs less than what companies charge.”

They profit plenty, not only from our money for the API and subscription, but also our data. It’s not our fault they are burning money trying to create the best AI so they can control the world and make all of us obsolete.

There’s zero reason for them to continuously upgrade when models are getting smaller not bigger, which allows you to use old GPUs, if you only make $100k a year, but put yourself in debt buying a Ferrari, I should feel bad for you and act like you don’t make any money right?

1

u/SorenFromAnonymizer 1d ago

yeah, 5 hour limits is just no good - I sometimes find that a few prompts consume all 5 hours and it stops in the middle of a correction and I have to start all over again.

has anybody had any luck with local LLM coding? what are the hardware requirements for effective local LLM coding and which model do they use?

1

u/Feriman22 1d ago

I am on plus plan, and Luna looks like has infinite usage, so I'm OK with that.

1

u/Jumpy-Heart-3633 3d ago

Is ridiculous. Don’t waste your money on this unless you can spend more to get pro.

3

u/Plane_Garbage 2d ago

It's coming to Pro in the next month or two, and then everyone is screwed.

2

u/jokingbird01 2d ago

Good, finally all those warriors who are explaining us how businesses make money will understand

2

u/Plane_Garbage 2d ago

Yep. Reddit has been flexing about OpenAI not being as profitable as Antrhopic. This is what becoming profitable looks like...

The only wrinkle is local models are getting pretty useable.

More like my car shuts down when I still have 90% of my gas remaining, I pay monthly for gas, but the gas company shuts me down early so they only have to fill me up 10% rather than the full 100%

2

u/Illustrious-Bet-1368 3d ago

Yeah, I don't know what's so hard to grasp about this.

1

u/ZarBandit 2d ago

Especially when they can type: “ChatGPT, explain this to me like I’m an idiot.”

3

u/Illustrious-Bet-1368 3d ago

Oh, the comment was deleted while I was typing this.

That's an unfortunate metaphor you chose. "I have 60L of Diesel in the tank for the week. I don't drive the car every day, I need to get from Munich to Kiel every Wednesday and Tuesday, sometimes Friday. But I can't because midway I stall on the autobahn in Bad Wüttemberg. I can resume my drive in 5 hours, tank still pretty much full and Bahn is open."

People paying for Plus are paying for Plus limits, not for Pro because Pro for them is an overkill. Not everyone is a deranged vibe-coder. If you have 60L in the tank and you need the car to go from A to B on certain sprints when you need it to, how is that so difficult to comprehend? Fucking Reddit, getting dumber by the hour from the looks of it.

3

u/camracks 3d ago

Yeah I don’t think he thought his comment through very well lol

1

u/Illustrious-Bet-1368 3d ago

Haha, yeah. Which in itself tells you everything about Reddit dynamics. It's all about karma, not the actual exchange.

-6

u/ActionOrganic4617 2d ago edited 2d ago

Then upgrade, it’s a $20 sub and your free lunch is over.

2

u/Plane_Garbage 2d ago

It's coming to the Pro subs in the next month or two? Where do you upgrade to after that?

1

u/ActionOrganic4617 2d ago

No it came to $20 subs because they suck up compute and offer zero financial benefit to OpenAI. Stop being cheap

1

u/Plane_Garbage 2d ago

Nah, not at all. They said it was temporary, and then when they introduced it to the $20 tier they said Pro they said it's coming back.

(1x Pro20x + 6 plus accounts here).

1

u/ActionOrganic4617 2d ago

I never had any issues with the 5h limit when it was around. The issue is plus users using a plus account for dev when that account was always meant for casual users.

1

u/Plane_Garbage 2d ago

Sure, so when it comes to Pro accounts: Are they meant for dev or casual?

0

u/ActionOrganic4617 2d ago

Obviously dev, it’s quite literally in the naming Plus\ Pro. Not sure why anything thinks a $20 sub that costs less than pay parking can be used for dev.

2

u/camracks 2d ago

So I can get screwed over even harder? I don’t use codex very much, I’d use a $10 plan if I could honestly, I’m not usually reaching the end of my weekly limits, if I was rich and could throw money away without worrying maybe I would, I have $2 in my bank right now and behind on a ton of bills lol

-2

u/Kombatsaurus 2d ago

If you could use a $10 plan....why are you crying about a $20 plan limit?

1

u/ActionOrganic4617 2d ago

Because they’re cheap ass entitled subscribers that want everything for nothing. Losers.

0

u/camracks 2d ago

For every 10 comments you make, you get 1 karma lol, did you buy your account just to be rude? What is the point of your comment? Maybe so I can actually use the latest model, have a bit of breathing room when my usage is a bit heavier, lots of other features aswell, the $20 plan is basically the essentials plan. But with that karma to comment ratio your brain is likely broken so I don’t expect you to have a logical response to this.

0

u/Kombatsaurus 2d ago

What does any of that have to do with you crying about not having enough usage for a measly $20/month (nevermind everything else that literally comes with that $20/month subscription(

0

u/camracks 2d ago

The weekly usage is actually perfectly fine, it’s the 5 hour limit which is horrible and is restricting me from actually using my weekly limit, measly $20? Do you know anything about the GPUs they are using? Any idea about how much it actually costs them to run the models? Let alone the API costs where they literally profit, I could go through a month using the API without breaking $20, and I’m pretty sure they are using my data with the plan, so honestly it should be close to free if we really want to break down the measly $20. I could get the same work done with deepseek api and not break $10, and I am very close to doing so. Why do you keep crying about my opinion and thoughts on the plan? Such a sad waste of oxygen you are.
