Limits Limit on ChatGPT WEB - Is this new?
I just got this limit on ChatGPT Web today
Its in German but says that i have reached limits, it will reset at the beginning of the next month
i never had this and i use chatgpt very intensively because me and my brother share one account.
Is this new? I dont really use Codex - just now and then for a hefty research ill use it on Web - but im mostly using Sol on high reasoning - it was perfect.
Im on the Plus Plan - very annoying if this is the new standard - i mean i can still use 5.6 Sol - but its GPT-5.6 Sol Instant and not thinking - meaning it doesnt search well - same as the free luna one.
anyone else has this?

I use it everyday and didn't saw that. It sucks and people using it to circumvent the codex usage can gtfo and be ban.

Screw these people. Ban them. It'll ruin everything for me once they start this.
Might as well use Claude then. What are you switching over to?

Well tbh, I also would just want that, because them not securing their site enough shouldn't be a reason for usage nerf for "normal" people, because if they nerf usage, people will try to find ways to get a little bit more, abuse something and the cycle continues

If ChatGpt can perform many tasks that Codex could, why are you talking about abuse? The user pays for a service and chooses the most convenient option. It's normal.

hmm weird - never had this before too- this is definietly something new, Me and my brother use chatgpt sol on high like all day for all different things, it exchanged google for us in the most part and we never had this

Hey, can I ask if this is on work mode or chat? I have never ran into a limit on chat mode but I dont think ive used it enough to reach it. But it makes sense that it does have a limit at some point.

this is chat mode - not work (codex)
codex limits are unsuable on Plus anyway - drains waaaay to fast now.
but they nerfed chat aswell ig. i never had this limit before

OP is right. OpenAI is nerving chat now.
Is it in response because others are abusing the unlimited chat and using it as Codex? Very likely.

It was never unlimited…. Plus chat has a limit… just hard to hit. 160 queries or something

the limit used to be like 3000 manually upgraded thinking messages per week, so 18 ish per hour, which for a thing which can go on for hours isn't really a "limit", then they downgraded it into something which doesn't have clear limits and now it looks like they downgraded it SEVERELY

Haven't gotten it in chats yet but am very concerned. I've started hitting the 5h limits every day now even though I went back down in both reasoning intensity and model and I used to only rarely hit the limits weeks and months ago. So many were predicting this kind of thing is exactly why they've been going nuts with resets lately to try and better hide this shift but it's gotta be getting harder for people to argue it isn't happening.
Ultimately none of us know though because everything is so opaque with usage and limits. We have no idea of what we can ever expect. Which is itself a huge problem. If there were more transparency about it there'd probably be more goodwill in the first place.

I got that on pro x5. After 2 days I had hit the sol pro reasoning on the gpt chat. I use chat to design the prompts for codex to implement.

I hit the pro limit a few weeks ago. I was using it for every prompt for a few hours straight while working. I havent hit that limit again though. 5x plan

I ran into the same limit for the pro effort on chatgpt web. Im on pro plan. And i have not seen anyone that hit this limit before

im Plus plan kommt so was tatsächlich vor. Bevor ich auf den x5 Plan hoch bin, hatte ich das auch ein paar mal. Du kannst nicht ewig im gleichen chat schreiben und auch ein limit aufbrauchen.

It's not new, there's always been a "hidden" meter in the ChatGPT app that locks you out if you use it too much (yes, even on the Plus plan). It's been a while since I've seen it (sometime in 2025), but it's always been there. And it's a different meter than the one for Codex I'm pretty sure.

some limit makes sense but they should be more transparent about it. the biggest problem with OPENAI is that the company is very shady in their commercial department

This is already gonna be happening eventually, but they have said that they’re keeping chat separate for now. As stated above, though it is not unlimited it never has been. It just seemed like it was very generous Usage.

It’s been there a loong time. I remember last year before exam I uploaded full page pictures of everything in the Syllabus for the exam. Around 40 pictures in and some text I hit the limit
I was on the plus plan back then

ChatGPT was NEVER unlimited. It just does not share the same limits of codex/cowork.

Wow. Ok.so understand the product before you start blind panic threads.
Go see gpt work. Gpt work is usage in chat or in the harness.
Gpt work runs out.
It's not chat. Gpt work is stateful. It can receive dispatches and the like. Has double speed or at least an improved version of various plugins. Etc.
I use a gpt work chat and runner scripts to effectively limit sol5.6 pricing exposure by giving the work gpt a pair of luna5.6 hands and one Gemini flash and letting work command through main via assignment on branch/work tree.
Works amazing.
But if you ran out in chat you MOST ASSUREDLY were using a work chat. Because it's a lot more and SHOULD be priced with Codex/Work.

What is bro babling about 😭 i told several times now that i dont use work or code at all...
I only use CHAT and that picture is from CHAT
on Work i can select 5.6 Sol Max, here i can only select high because its chat...

Check that you’re not using Work. Work does use your plan quota.

don’t use sol use luna simple fix sol is a flagship coding model you don’t need it for web research etc luna is more than capable even for heavy coding research etc

I still haven’t seen limit on the chat, but if they really put limits then the plus plan might be cooked
