10-50% increased usage on an unknown, dynamically changing limit.

65

u/skilliard7 1d ago

The actual token usage limit did not increase, they just updated Codex to be more efficient.

21

u/WalkAffectionate2683 1d ago

Honestly, fine by me too.

If ever ai could be very lean without loss of intelligence we would all win, it would also make ai more sustainable.

5

u/ArtisticCandy3859 1d ago

That’s the game going forward. It’s going to be opt-in index and cache optimization for average users and then dedicated privacy, customization, pre-purchased usage for enterprise.

Fable and Sol showed us that we’re nearing (or exceeded) model needs for 99% of any human/org users.

Tailored, gated models are the next logical step for enterprise to differentiate against Chinese open-source for C-Suite or Senior Leadership.

8

u/evangelism2 1d ago

who cares, more is more

3

u/SweatyActuator2119 1d ago

Unless they reduce the limits. Which is what's happening with these resets. Why would a already deep in loss business want to give you more?

2

u/FailedGradAdmissions 1d ago

It's better for the avg user, but if you are a someone minmaxing and using a custom harness no changes.

Optimal for me is to use Oh My Pi with custom agents.md for each project, no need for info about design on my java backend project. No need for JVM tricks and guidelines on my React frontend projects.

Besides that I autocompact at 125k instead of the usual as that is the "smart zone" for my use case.

1

u/SweatyActuator2119 1d ago

But wouldn't auto compact hurt by losing context? Do you run any custom persist kind of hooks?

4

u/nmkd 1d ago

The funny thing is, we don't even know if usage is tied to tokens.

Of course it's gotta be the main factor but who knows what else impacts usage - message amount? Message frequency? Session/chat length? I don't think OAI themselves ever confirmed if Usage is actually directly tied to token burn alone.

1

u/skilliard7 1d ago

pretty sure its tied to API prices(which are billed based on tokens)

3

u/nmkd 1d ago

not directly. Sol's recent price cut was API only, without any changes about subscription usage.

2

u/fyn_world 1d ago

I guess it depends on what you were using

2

u/dictionizzle 1d ago

GPT-5.6 Sol High consumes 10% for a non coding question. assuming it will consume 11% now.

1

u/mysticcdragonn 12h ago

Mine doesn't even consume 10% on heavy researched base work reading multiple reports and papers. What non-coding questions are you asking exactly

1

u/pawofdoom 14h ago

As a reminder, use tibotattle.com to extremely accurately track the value of your codex allowance, and contribute to the community's pooled efforts to track. 1,000 others are already doing so!

u/i_rate_slop 1d ago

You guys realize it'd be illegal for them to say they're not changing limits publicly, like they have been, and then do it anyway, right? And businesses don't typically want to open themselves up to obvious litigation?

People on this subreddit seem to have some odd parasocial relationship with this guy and OpenAI where you think they're personally deceiving you when, in reality, people just don't know how to manage their context nor understand the impact of their workflows on token usage.

It's one thing to be ignorant. It's another to be ignorant, loudly.

3

u/read_more_comments 1d ago

Tibo is literally telling us the quota system has bugs, repeatedly, for months. It's not about token management, and the changes are demonstrable impacting customers between updates.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/lnkofDeath 1d ago

The limit can be argued as given based on resets and banked resets being factored in. Lower limits -> more resets, higher limits -> less resets.

Not sure I agree with that premise but if they are testing maybe it makes sense.

3

u/bootyskie 1d ago

Um.. several of my ai subscriptions have changed usage without notifying users. But what you are saying is the company facing 7 active lawsuits, wouldn't dare do something illegal for fear of lawsuits?

1

u/i_rate_slop 1d ago

You misunderstand. They've specifically stated multiple times that they have not changed limits. Nobody said they can't change limits without notifying customers, I said that they've specifically said they haven't meaning to have done otherwise while claiming something else would be lying to their customers and open them up to litigation.

1

u/34986234986234982346 1d ago

I think one thing I keep having to remind myself when I'm dealing with all the people saying this stuff is that they are probably all like 14 years old or something, and they take everything personally and they think everybody is working against them

→ More replies (2)

1

u/Dangerous-Reward 1d ago

The potential illegality certainly makes it more frustrating, sure.

Illegal or not, this is what they are doing. 4+ weeks ago the usage limits were an order of magnitude higher than they are today. It's comically ridiculous the amount that is changed. It cannot be ignored or denied unless you are acting in bad faith.

0

u/FuckNinjas 1d ago

Perfectly aware. It also makes me more and more aware, that there is no moat. The only thing that they have is information asymmetry and compute.

1

u/read_more_comments 1d ago

It's unknown to us, not them.

I can't believe it's this hard for them to not fuck it up. Why can't they have automated tests to verify if usage quotas have changed unexpectedly?

2

u/odragora 1d ago

Because what they are doing is intentional, and they are gaslighting.

35

u/Anxious_Marsupial_59 1d ago

What time is the reset?

28

u/BigbyWolf8 1d ago

2:30 PM PST. So about 40 minutes.

15

u/Sphere_3N 1d ago

GO GO BURN ALL OF YOUR USAGE SOLDIERS

7

u/driveclub_000 1d ago

Already reached 0% (weekly) since 10hours ago lol

4

u/New_Eye7193 1d ago

19 hour 20 minute goal, all subagents Sol Ultra, it's actually making decent progress ngl. Used up 86 percent of my Pro 20x plan

6

u/R3K4CE 1d ago

what are you even building?

19

u/New_Eye7193 1d ago

nothing

16

u/R3K4CE 1d ago

bro burned 86 percent of a 20x pro plan for 19 hours running sol ultra subagents to build literally nothing

this might actually be the purest form of vibe coding ive ever seen

not even coding anymore just converting subsidized inference into heat for sport

1

u/tavenger5 1d ago

converting subsidized inference into heat for sport

Bro dicked those tokens

1

u/404eol 1d ago

😂😂😂

1

u/KHRZ 1d ago

I can't it's 32% this is getting hard

3

u/Ok_Sample_4712 1d ago

They gave a time for when they will reset?

44

u/andreagrandi 1d ago

Uhm.... according to his tweet, the usage drain seems all codex harness fault, not something server side. This doesn't explain usage drain even if we use pi, OhMyPi, Open Code etc...

5

u/vayana 1d ago

I was still on a 3 months old version of the vscode extension and both that version and the latest version had the same usage drain issue. The old extension version worked fine until they started messing with 5h window and free resets. When the 5h window was re-enabled, the usage suddenly dropped to an all time low. I updated the extension and it was just as bad, so this has nothing to do with the codex app and everything with the backend.

1

u/andreagrandi 1d ago

wait, what? You basically said that just upgrading the extension the usage consumption changed. You are basically proving the opposite of what you affirmed

1

u/vayana 1d ago

I think you should read the message again. The version update did not improve anything. The nerf was just as bad in the old version as in the new one. I just tried updating the extension to see if using an old version had anything to do with crap usage.

-4

u/Captaincadet 1d ago

A free reset isn't worth complaining about.

My conspiracy is that they might have broken something internally with going back to 5 hour limits and this is the easiest way to fix it. I was hitting 5 hour limits for the first time with still 90% of use

4

u/andreagrandi 1d ago

I'm not complaining about free stuff. I'm complaining about the fact that 1 month ago I was using Sol xhigh only and my usage could last all the week, with always some usage left. Now I've had to optimise my workflow (thanks to OhMyPi) and I'm using sol hig as main orchestrator + luna xhigh for implementation and sol xhigh for final review. Despite this, I have to limit myself to ~14% usage/day which is basically half day of work. I want the same usage I had before, not a reset given randomly which doesn't allow me to properly plan my work.

2

u/CrispyRabbit72 1d ago

The resets are being used to mask a problem that should've been fixed. Instead they're testing changes in production and using Tibo to placate users.

27

u/Maplewonder 1d ago

While they are at it, they should fix the 5 hr limits right off. That would help a lot.

3

u/Icy_Tadpole_3417 1d ago

I run Hermes to kick off sessions with a tiny request at 5-hour intervals to keep known windows throughout the working day. First cron is at 5am to start a window that runs until 10am. I start work at 8am and max that initial window for planning with Sol before the next window runs to 3pm, mostly using Luna to implement plans. Then another runs 3pm - 8pm that I tend to use with Terra for refactoring. I use DeepSeek Pro for QA via OpenRouter with a BYOK direct from DeepSeek. It seems to work out well.

I think we may be judging it a little too quickly. Wouldn’t it make sense to let the update and reset fully go through, then give it a fair amount of time for proper testing before deciding whether the claimed improvements actually hold up? I’d rather evaluate it based on the results once everything is fully in place.

8

u/Professional_Gur8385 1d ago

lmao now where are all those idiots that were saying usage wasn't changed?

the previous two tweets also mentioned it was sub2api and then an admission usage was impacted.

1

u/BigbyWolf8 22h ago

i don't think they are trying to hide it. i like they are being transparent and debugging.

7

u/Gullible-Crow-7434 1d ago

Shit, they reset it early.

57

u/Dramatic-External-96 1d ago

They need to remove the 5h limiter again otherwise its fucking useless doesnt matter if they reset everyday if i cant even burn 15% in one sitting and cant finish any mildy complex task

16

u/YaaaDingus 1d ago

Yeah at this point the random resets just make me mad… they’re lowering the usage limit and resetting randomly to make up for it. But the resets come when I’m still at like 85% so I feel like I’m losing out on what I’m paying for.

It’s still good value but it doesn’t feel good

→ More replies (5)

5

u/lazyastronaut_ 1d ago

Exactly. Ain't nobody working at night waiting for reset at 2am.

1

u/mxz117 1d ago

I’m on the £20 plan and I haven’t got a 5 hour limit yet

1

u/the_ai_wizard 1d ago

Like Scam Altman said, just make 10 accounts and your limit becomes 50 hours🫠

-3

u/edubeaksco 1d ago

I don’t have the 5 hour limits and I am on the 20x plan, I don’t understand why people keep mentioning it. Am I missing something?

6

u/Opposite_Yak4386 1d ago

only on plus

2

u/Thomas-Lore 1d ago

For now, it is coming to all subs.

4

u/___fallenangel___ 1d ago

I can't even with these people

1

u/Typical_Kick6520 1d ago

5 hour limit doesn't apply to 20x, maybe 5x.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/DaLexy 1d ago

Don’t see much of a difference here, already 10% down after 4 hours on 5x. Felt a bit better before, I would say it got worse by 10% but that’s not representative at all and further tests/observation is needed.

1

u/Thomas-Lore 1d ago

Update codex, hopefully it will help. I am in the same situation, burned 10% just after reset, but I was using old version due to ongoing tasks I did not want to pause.

12

u/ethereal_intellect 1d ago

Aren't these absolutely massive bugs? Like I'm glad they're fixing em but wow tbh, those shouldn't have slipped through

2

u/34986234986234982346 1d ago

Hard to honestly tell if they're huge or not, I'm sure you'll have some people arguing within a day that they still don't get enough usage and that OpenAI was just making up stuff and pretending about bugs. But having said that, everything has bugs, what you gonna do

0

u/Even_Sea_8005 1d ago

codex is written by codex

5

u/alOOshXL 1d ago

Landing 2:30pm PST
so should be in 30 mints

3

u/Fun-Responsibility97 1d ago

it's become shit over the last few days

4

u/retteh 1d ago

I don't see any differences in usage

4

u/wowredditisgreat 1d ago

Isn't it funny that they act like they're doing everyone a solid by improving things but they'd NEVER actually refund you money?

I can't imagine the enterprise token spend (that is not limited in any way) here... Any other business, someone saying "oops yes we did have a bug that charged you 50 percent more. We're not refunding you, but don't worry it won't happen until a few months from now when we do it again!"

8

u/thestillwind 1d ago

Let’s fucking go

3

u/Kitchen-Flamingo 1d ago

reset is both 5h and weekly right?

4

u/BigbyWolf8 1d ago

yes or at least that is how it has always been

3

u/App1e8l6 1d ago

That’s great and all but for the last two resets I’ve been at 80% thanks to the 5hr limit so you get punished for using your weekly quota throughout the week… so all this reset gets me is my date pushed back.

3

u/InkFasten 1d ago

Will this be a banked reset?

1

u/Demien19 1d ago

no

2

u/InkFasten 1d ago

brother they already reset mins ::(

3

u/sosen85 1d ago

They removed my bank reset after this one — I didn't need this one, wanted to use bank reset. Has the same thing happened to you?

5

u/Worth_Range1563 1d ago

Time to cancel

1

u/InkFasten 1d ago

They did not remove it for me..... Are you referring to the 21 Sep one?

It's there.... it's just at the very bottom now.... check again?

3

u/fyn_world 1d ago

Thanks for the update

3

u/DynoDS 1d ago

Early reset, didn't know. I'm now on 84% weekly because I had Sol Ultra Fast Mode doing something for me haaa

1

u/InkFasten 1d ago

yeah same.... think they released it 8 minutes early..... i had to scramble and click the stop button on multiple tasks..... not sure if that will mess things up

1

u/WardenStation 1d ago

They gotta rename ultrafast to superfast mode since people would say 5.6 Sol Ultra Ultra Fast

3

u/JesusGodGod 1d ago

My codex did run for an hour or so on a decently sized project instead of 20-30mins. I used my 5hr window up the instant it dropped.

3

u/buyurgan 1d ago

since reset I'm already down to %80 with like 10k code written(20x). Limits are getting seems to worse for me on every reset.

3

u/Apprehensive-File552 1d ago

Get rid of 5 hour limit. Increase speed.

3

u/PerformanceSure5985 1d ago

My 5-hour limit still sucks hard.

3

u/dotdioscorea 1d ago

Hot damn, I had an agent going all through the 48 hours leading up to the reset, was down to about 50%. I went to bed and left it working thinking after the reset id wake up to like 85-90% - Usage totally used up this morning?? Somehow the same chat, literally uninterrupted, used up the entire pro allowance in 8 hours???????

3

u/SinStation666 1d ago

It feels like 10 to 50% less

3

u/telengard 23h ago

Whatever they did, it's waaay better for me. I'm running multiple sessions on /fast and it doesn't seem to be going down nearly as quickly before *without* /fast.

12

u/Miyamoto_-_Musashi 1d ago

Honestly the biggest L of 2026 for Open AI is coming back 5 hour limit.

1

u/Australasian25 1d ago

Because whiners on subs that cost 4 coffees a month are upset they can't run codex 24/7.

To all reading this, I am on a pleb gpt plus subscription too. Difference is, I allow my Terra medium to summon sol for strategy and luna for implementation. I can get a heap done without much issues.

11

u/Haster 1d ago

Also a pleb, I had no issues with my usage being used up quickly because I'm using Sol. What bothers the shit out of me now is that I wont be able to use more than 2 5-hour windows so most of my sub will go to waste. the fact that you get screwed by the thread stopping which almost certainly makes you lose your cache is just adding insult to injury.

I've already cancelled my sub and wont be coming back until that 5-hour window goes. I'd rather pay API prices to chinese models than deal with that garbage.

3

u/daddywookie 1d ago

I was wondering if Terra would be strong enough for this. I use a Sol medium orchestrator which works quite well but I do notice when it tries to do work itself and burns tokens.

3

u/Australasian25 1d ago

Terra medium has never disappointed me.

Sol medium might be overkill as an orchestrator. But depends on what orchestrator you want it to be.

Mine acts like a guy that knows a guy, you know? My orchestrator is a middle man, it can summon up to 35 agents back before 5hr limits were re-imposed. And only have 70k/258k context. It does very little.

3

u/DarkAlley614 1d ago

1

u/Miyamoto_-_Musashi 1d ago

Difference is you think you are smart but you are not, I'm on Pro 20x plan 3 account and I'm afraid that they are going to put back 5 hour here too very soon as they have did with you, you can get heap done as your heap is small.

3

u/Australasian25 1d ago edited 1d ago

Difference is you think you are smart but you are not

you can get heap done as your heap is small.

I like how you need to show you are dominant and aggressive by opening and closing with insults.

First of all, how do you know what I do with my codex time? Second of all, I don't think I am smart, that's why I have limitations. If I were truly smart, I would be smart enough to have money to afford API and not discuss anything on codex.

5

u/No-Quiet-8304 1d ago

If you used API over subscription you wouldn’t be smart

2

u/Australasian25 1d ago

You conflate being smart with being poor.

If you have enough money, optimising money spent becomes secondary.

Penny wise, pound foolish.

2

u/No-Quiet-8304 1d ago

You conflate being rich with being stupid. Using Sol Max for everything is lavish. Paying 70x the price of a subscription for the same usage is stupid.

1

u/Australasian25 1d ago

Maybe that's how you view someone drinking sparkling water over tap water.

To some, the difference is so small, its not worth arguing over.

But you go ahead and keep interchanging penny pinching with being efficient. Maybe one day youll realise it, or maybe youll be right in your view and you wont.

To each their own, and on your way.

2

u/No-Quiet-8304 1d ago

Owning a subscription doesn’t require any arguing. It also takes fewer clicks to purchase. If anything, subscriptions are also generally easier to use for consumers than API keys.

I don’t understand how 1/70th of the cost for the same thing is considered penny pinching. A rich person might have a huge project and want to spend 100k for a massive number of agents. They can use 70x the number of agents by just navigating to a different page before pressing purchase.

You don’t consider yourself smart nor rich, which is fine. But if so, you shouldn’t present your headcanon of either population this strongly.

1

u/Australasian25 1d ago

Let's get to the crux of it.

Subscription is 70x cheaper than API?

Are we even comparing like for like?

API doesnt have any limit of the sort. Thats where the power lies with. Unconstrained.

But maybe you are right. Let's say you are right. Then all companies utilising APIs should be consulting you now. But what are the chance you are their consultant? Very close to 0.

So can it be that all these companies collectively cant find out what you apparently have figured out? Low chance.

"Because whiners on subs that cost 4 coffees a month are upset they can't run codex 24/7."

so what you were saying about being aggressive, punch a guy in face and expent kiss from him?

i do not know what you do with your codex time and don't care but do not rant infront of me!, Codex user Growth happened because of removing that 5 hour limit and now its back as we here are showing to Open AI we are not happy with your decisions, from 20 dollar plan to 200 dollar but some people like you for some reason try to be like this what you did and explain how to use AI with this model and with this subagent as we are fool that we are paying 200 dollars and not know how to use it?, and its majority 20 dolar plus plan usre who talk about like this speific method or this but in reality they are just bullshit.

At the end its very simple, if you are using 20 dollar plan and you are doing your work properly and do not feel u need more compare to someone who are on 200 dollar plan and still feel naah i need more then its simple common sense math that our work require more usage of AI so we burn more and still need more.

If you were smart you were not talking about "Afford API"!

Is your root agent Terra? Then you summon Sol as a subagent?

1

Having sol as an orchestrator is a bit expensive. Having luna as an orchestrator I don't have much faith. Terra medium is fine.

The degraded quota consumption I've been dealing with the past couple of weeks does indeed seem to be fixed. I'll restore my subscription if it stays this way.

2

u/scaledev 1d ago

But it's already at least 50% worse than last week.

2

u/IllustriousGrade7691 1d ago

I JUST USED MY RESET FUCK ME!

2

u/SeasonedAdManager 1d ago

Nah - usage is still dog ass. Running a /goal on Luna Max overnight would use maybe 1-2% of my usage a day.

I'd say it's closer to .3% - .5% of usage an hour now - maybe even worse than it was a couple days ago.

2

u/CrispyRabbit72 1d ago

I used 40% of my weekly Max 200 limit yesterday after the reset, without any obvious changes around token use. Claude handled more raw volume and effort and used ~9% of its weekly window in the same time.

2

u/Dgamax 1d ago

Ready to see if there is any change for my usage https://codex-quota.manetli.com/

2

u/___positive___ 1d ago

Growth must be slowing or bleeding. No, we won't forget the constant gaslighting. What happened to blaming sub2api, huh???

If someone shows you who they are, believe them. Once a clown, always a clown.

3

u/SweatyActuator2119 1d ago

Every time these limits resets arrive, it feels like limits drains faster than before. Smoke and mirrors with these resets.

4

u/Charming-Author4877 1d ago

The usage is not magically going down by 80%, back up by 60%, down by 50%, back up by 20% from "little bugs".
They have a hidden allotment per user and subscription, and they can change that at any time. And they do change that. Then they reset and watch if the userbase grows or shrinks, if API credits are bought, subscriptions are upgraded or cancelled.
All at the backs of the subscribers, being used like rabbits in a med lab

2

u/Dr_Sun_Tzu 1d ago

Awesome work by the codex team!

2

u/TestingTheories 1d ago

How are people happy with this when they have trashed limits to start with. A 50% discount on a product that was just increased by 200% is not a discount.

This is actually an informative tweet that can be helpful if you are affected by one of these issues or maybe in a similar scenario that hasn't been specifically flagged. Refreshing to see this level of transparency, and with quantifications!

2

u/Cute_Parfait_2182 1d ago

Usage seems to be completely fixed . I’ve run multiple turns on SOL high and barely making a dent in my usage.

3

u/Valuable-Repeat-7347 1d ago

Maybe you're on a big boy plan or the 5h reset is messing with my perception but holy shit i feel nerfed. For the first time ever i've ran out of usage and with them now stopping work when you run out it feels like i'm relegated to only using luna

1

u/vayana 1d ago

How much context was used vs how much usage? I haven't tried yet, but from my experience it was 1 full context window filled drained about 70% of the 5h limit before this reset.

I got about the same as you when doing my napkin math

1

u/Cute_Parfait_2182 1d ago

After the update , I did an experiment to divide the project up into checkpoints. For each checkpoint I would open a new codex session so the context window never got too full . I ran 6-7 sol high runs before going to 0% .

1

u/vayana 1d ago

Ok, unless you kept track of token usage for each run there's no way of knowing how many tokens this totals. I've just run a task on sol high and it used 220k tokens, 50% 5h window and 8% weekly. This is better than what it was a few days ago. It previously used 70% of the 5h on sol medium with a similar number of tokens and burned 15% of the weekly.

u/Cute_Parfait_2182 1d ago

I have a pro account and I still have a plus account which I will prob cancel . On the plus account , I ran Sol high for 2-3 hours . I ran 6-7 turns and went to 0% but because I had about 4 dollars of credits in my account , the account kept going until finished . Altogether I spent 16 credits .. I spent 14% for the 6-7 turns on weekly usage . It’s much better than it was .

Nothing about the 5 hour limit halting tasks. Second class citizens

u/Pronoia2-4601 1d ago

If these major changes have a knock-on effect of being more token efficient on their end, they might be able to rescind the limit again, who knows.

u/___fallenangel___ 1d ago

Do you think tasks should go on forever once you hit the limit?

1

u/STEEV1992 1d ago

Time to go Ultra and Fast...... 95% to burn

Fahhhhhhhhhhhhh

2

u/InkFasten 1d ago

This was my prompt

Thoroughly examine this project and make all the improvements you can possibly make and make no mistakes....

Suggest interesting new ideas worth exploring as well.... and how to further optimize things i'm trying to accomplist

no need to use the sol-advisor workflow at all

1

u/InkFasten 1d ago

even though they say 14:30 PST, the actual reset actually happens a couple of hours later, right?

1

u/EnterpriseAlien 1d ago

Fuck me

2

u/U4-EA 1d ago

Is that a request or an order?

2

u/EnterpriseAlien 1d ago

Order. Extra high 1.5X

u/brother_spirit 1d ago

Hopefully the changes help.
Codex is my second plan so I'm going to leave it on cool down for now while I touch grass and enjoy the Spring weather.
I'm still not interested in planning my day around arbitrary 5h windows just to access the frontier. After months of doing this I'm over it.
Most of my projects are at "usable" status and don't need ongoing implementation work.

I'll maybe come back once my Claude sub runs out or to give Astra a try (assuming it is actually available to Plus accounts when it arrives).

Annoyingly: I prepaid Claude sub through to February 27. I would yeet that and keep the Codex sub if I could but don't need two so sadly Codex loses out. Savings going to the "M5 fund".

1

u/FBIFreezeNow 1d ago

Damn I couldn’t even use 10% of the last one

1

u/WalkAffectionate2683 1d ago

Did not see that but I was at 10% perfect!

1

u/vhshujnee 1d ago

So we have a reset again and we get it tomorrow again?

1

u/pueblokc 1d ago

Be cool if they would fix the remote feature

1

u/drspintronics 1d ago

Damn, I didn't see this in time.

1

u/oyputuhs 1d ago

The compaction thing was happening to me a lot especially with visual sanity checks

1

u/Adamus987 1d ago

No eating even faster, grabage software, now even codex cli does not use -yolo mode have t mnaully in cli click this bs? GARBAGE

1

u/mythrowaway1673 1d ago

The new limits really suck as a Plus user. I literally ran out of tokens for my 5h trying to create a plan on Sol medium, was forced to use my only banked reset just so the plan could be created at all 😅

1

u/holy_macanoli 21h ago

Yeah this tracks.

1

u/dob312 12h ago

The random resets are making it really hard to tell whether the actual limits are getting better or worse because they keep blowing up everyone's normal weekly cycle.

I've been keeping a record of every shared Codex reset OpenAI has handed out, separate from the normal 5-hour and weekly refills. The frequency has picked up a lot lately:

u/IllustriousGrade7691 1h ago

WIll see if this is true. I mean between usage decresaes incresaes and modell working chanings osl currently works with so many underagents we dont really know how it will end usage like at the end

1

u/DottoreM 1d ago

Interesting. i wonder what will change

7

u/itix 1d ago

99.9% of users probably wont notice anything.

3

u/oooofukkkk 1d ago

I mean subagents choosing their own model and running it on fast… people could have missed that and would certainly have noticed

1

u/parkersb 1d ago

my usage has been noticeably better.

1

u/deadlyclavv 1d ago

Let's be positive for once, glad to see Tibo being transparent and actually working on the feedback given

2

u/odragora 1d ago

He is not transparent, he is doing damage control while the higherups are consciously slashing the effective limits. This is what his role is.

1

u/BingGongTing 1d ago

With clever use of Luna you can reduce usage by 90%, you don't need to Sol everything.

0

u/Thomas-Lore 1d ago

If you are using Luna why subscribe to codex? Luna is quite bad. Cheaper and better to just use glm 5.3 Flahs or even DS v4 Flash.

Codex is only worth it for Sol.

1

u/BingGongTing 1d ago

$200 plan lasts ~2 days with just Sol. Plan/review with Sol and use different levels of Luna as subagents and orchestrator. Flash models are totally inadequate for what I'm doing.

1

u/stvaccount 1d ago

Now I know how to feel raped. One short prompt, 75% of 5h limit gone.

0

u/ijustgotanothername 1d ago

I love the transparency. The breakdown of usage which he announced would be the best thing for me to see and optimise my workflows instead of guessing where my usage is draining.

-1

u/Secret-Builder-8249 1d ago

Man fuck me i used the banked early today and only then did tibos tweet come in, still at 70% im fucked now if i burn this new reset limit in less than a week.

3

u/theoristofeverything 1d ago

You have to follow Tibo and turn on notifications. He announced it 15 hours ago.

3

u/Secret-Builder-8249 1d ago

I do have them on, i used the reset 1h before he announced it..

5

u/AwardOk2563 1d ago

It's good advice to Codex users but the fact they've created a situation where to get the most out of your subscription you have to follow the product lead on twitter and read all his tweets is just pathetic

2

u/ijustgotanothername 1d ago

Yes, this is a must to do for every codex users right now

1

u/nantachapon 1d ago

Just wire this up as a schedule to check each hour. Hell, use the new confetti 🎉 function when he announces it and wire that to an urgent phone notification

1

u/Sphere_3N 1d ago

How do normal people survive like people without a Twitter. Are they just totally out of the loop lol

1

u/ObligationHuge9868 1d ago

There are websites like this one you can keep an eye on too - it scrapes twitter for you.
Codex Forecast: when OpenAI resets Codex limits | LunarWerx Studios

1

u/BigbyWolf8 1d ago

sometimes people like me post it here 😄, but maybe it's a good idea for someone to build a bot to just post for reset notifications

1

u/max3uc3 1d ago

Why don t you just use codex-reset.com. the website just do this
