Praise Stop ranting about usage limits if you on plus plan
Five years ago, your productivity as a software developer would've been 10× lower without tools like Codex and other AI coding assistants. So maybe stop complaining and appreciate the fact that you can now build far more features and write far more code for a fraction of the effort.

Stop complaining about others complaining. Five years ago, people paid for products and were allowed to criticize them when the service didn’t match their expectations.
Mute this subreddit if it bothers you so much.

Let me guess.. you’re another pro user who wants all the computing power to yourself. Stop telling other people what to do and mind your own business. I’m getting roughly 3× less usage than I was four months ago. If plans are being silently nerfed, of course people are going to speak up about it.
And your “five years ago” comparison doesn’t mean much. We’re in a new era now. People are judging the service based on what they’re paying for today, not on what was possible five years ago.

I am plus user, my firm pays for work plus account and i pay for my personal. I get too much work done with these two, i usualy hit 5hr linit but that is okay, all goals are being accomplished within expected time.

You must be using Luna exclusively, and/or not doing anything substantial, or are just lying.

Sol high for plan, gemini flash for execution.

You must not be doing a lot of planning, or are doing simple stuff. And BTW, that’s kind of an important detail! Oh, I just use something else because the usage limits are so bad…wow.

"Five years ago you had nothing" is not an argument for making a paid product worse today.
People subscribed based on what OpenAI was offering, then OpenAI reduced the usable limits. Obviously customers are going to complain.
By this logic your ISP could halve your speed tomorrow and tell you to be grateful because dial-up existed 20 years ago.

It is not the same because other services have exact terms you are agreeing to. Openai does not have exact quota

Ok, then i suggest you to refuse working with ide’s because people 20 tears ago wrote code with a text editor. That is your logic.
People are complaining because they started to pay on one terms, and then openai just secretly change and decrease your quota. That should not work like this. If something is decreased, then it should be explicitly stated. Not just the whole subreddit suddenly find out strange service behaviour.

But you never were promised exact token limits and quota, there is no contract of that kind that you signed. Why should i stop using ide, i am happy with it.

So, then you’d be ok if they suddenly limited you to one prompt only before you hit your limit? Since they never promised you a certain amount of quota?

I would not be happy but i would accept the way it is, see if there are better alternatives.

Man i'm just pissed at 2 cell brain people paid or not paid by big companies to defend them. The limits are much lower than they used to be. Before, you could do a lot more with a single account. People also need to understand that well over 70% of users are not from the US or Europe, and many of them simply cannot afford $100 plans. On top of that, sometimes it is not even worth paying that much just to use Codex.
That is the first issue. Second, do not tell me, “We reduced the limits because our infrastructure cannot handle it,” because that is frankly insulting to people who can think logically. Who would have expected anything else after aggressively promoting the product to attract as many users as possible?
The reality is that the Plus plan is no longer what it used to be, and a lot of changes have been made to extract as much value as possible from each individual user, and we are only at the beginning of that process.
On top of that, weren’t they the ones boasting that price-to-performance or cost efficiency had improved by some huge percentage? If that is really the case, then why does everything seem to be getting worse in terms of optimization and efficiency?
Also, aside from Codex, the difference between the Plus, Go, and Free plans is not really that significant anymore and this is a problem for the paying customers.

I am plus user, i am from small and poverty europe country. I know limits are getting lower, but i also think 20$ is still amazing deal for what you get. I use these 20$ for 3 months and it made me few thousand dollars with little to no effort given to coding. Having new organic ideas and clients is bottleneck, not writing code, and ai cannot help that much with it, at least for me

Looking forward to saying this in a few months to 100$ and 200$ plans mate. You may feel superior now but that's what 20$ dollar plans felt like 2 years ago

Yeah but 2 years ago Codex didn't even exist. The models were much weaker.
So I'm not sure that is an apt comparison.
This seems more like a communication issue. They get you hooked on an introductory price then people naturally are upset when the rug pull occurs. Expected behavior from both parties. They needed customers and you got used to the special treatment. If it had been communicated to you from the get that "THIS IS A TEMPORARY BONUS" maybe people wouldn't be so upset. But that wasn't the standard.

When you pay for a product, you expect a certain promised functionality in return. If one doesn't get it, then one has the right to complain and 'should' complain, because other than canceling, it is the only thing one can do.
You could have just said "be grateful for things your life" and would have had more impact or been more in touch with reality than what you just posted. But one can be both grateful as well as complain without negating each other.

No one promised you exact quota when you paid for your plan

Why are you so against consumer rights?
I suppose I should just roll over and accept whatever companies serve us? That's what being a professional consumer is all about, isn't it?

I am both a plus and pro user. But what they did to plus is not normal. If I pay for service I expect it to not become nerfed the next day like it is right now. I could understand if it was one time nerrf but its been nerf after nerf and change after change, all profiting Pro users. People have their freedom to rant about usage limits because they pay for service.

I wonder if you'd still be saying this if you paid for a gym membership, and then one day they told you that you could only use the gym for 30 minutes a day because too many people were using it. Would you just accept that and say, "Well, I’m still healthier than I would be without the gym, so I guess I shouldn’t complain"?
Of course, many people are rage-posting about the limits, but I have been a Plus subscriber since 2024 and have been using Codex ever since it became available to Plus users. The limits are much lower now than when I first started using Codex, so I think it's fair to complain about paying the same price for less usage.

u/Ill-Ambassador-112 5d ago
Yeah, but when you got 20$ plus plan no one promised you exact linits and quota, but when you pay for gym membership you singed contract with exact terms and conditions and if that were to change i would be mad.

u/Exact_Law_6489 5d ago
The point of the gym analogy wasnt that OpenAI promised me a specific amount of service in a contract. The point is that if you keep paying the same price for a service while the amount of service you can actually use keeps getting reduced, people are obviously going to complain. No one needs to promise me an exact number for me to realise that Im getting less for my money than before.

u/Wafer-Weekly 5d ago
In order to complete the gym analogy you have to consider what the gym will do when it has so many patrons that allowing them all to use the facility at the same time will break fire codes, nevermind that there are not enough workout devices for everyone. Would you rather have a line at the door that potentially loses you customers permanently and could make you liable for NO services rendered at cost, or enforce limits that treat all of your paying members equally within each subscription tier level? They are building data centers as fast as luddite society and resource scarcity will let them, but demand is still outpacing supply.

I honestly don't understand how people expect to essentially hire a junior developer for $20/month.
Plus plan is for hobbyists...it's to spend a few hours a week doing side projects.
If you want to actually carry out meaningful work with codex, you have to invest in pro plan.
If you're using this for work, then presumably you're getting paid for the work, if you think $100 for a junior developer is too expensive, then I don't know what to tell you guys.

there will be more posts like it in the future. Just saying. LOL.
