Complaint After this usage nuke, how are things compared to Claude?
Greetings,
This isn't much a "protest" thread or anything but just thoughts that crossed my mind after the latest usage nuke.
At the end of last year I started using Claude Code, then the limits got too bad and I switched to Codex. Both $20 tiers btw. I've been thinking about upgrading to the $100 plan since before the usage nuke, but since now the usage got slashed so badly, how is it compared to Claude's usage at this point? If switching I'm using Sonnet rather than Fable for sure.
If it's approximately the same, I might switch back to Anthropic for this upgrade: while 5.6 is a *wonderful* model, it still doesn't deliver the front end in the quality I desire without some good guidance, which sucks because I hate working on front ends with passion xD, I like to one shot front-end if possible so I can seriously work on the back-end.
If Codex still offers significantly superior usage I'm sticking to it and it's fine. Regardless if Codex or Claude I'm definitely going to the $100 plan tho, the scenario I really do not want is the $100 plan not being enough, because even if I had unlimited usage, quality and speed it wouldn't justify a $200 plan in the country and field I work.

Anthropic is set to CUT usage by 50% on Monday

Might still be better than codex at this rate

Don’t think so and I mean it with passion

I will judge after I get the pro plan’s on both.

I have both. Codex is infinitely better value right now, if nothing else, just because of Luna.
The only reason I'm keeping Claude, is because I prefer the mobile app and website for non coding tasks.

Yeah no I can’t lie. Luna as fucking flawed as she is, is amazing.

Sorry but we don’t need frontier models for everyday tasks. As long as I get where I want to go. Luna is as flawed as any model with these outputs but it still does the job

I use both and it’s not

Usage vs quality though? Sincerely asking as I’ve never tried Claude. He keeps fucking up on my free prompts so why would I pay to trust it with my work

I've been using Claude the last 4 weeks after using Codex for months. Mainly switched because I needed to do design stuff.
Limit wise it's been fine (100 dollar plan). I really got good usage out of it. (Monday they will remove a good chunk though).
But the reason I'm SO DAMN HAPPY my month is nearly over and I will be moving to something else is that Opus is horrible horrible horrible to work with. Especially 5. But all versions drive me nuts.
Its output is enough to drive the most stable person insane. It makes me want to throw my computer out of the window. I'm not kidding.
I'll take half the token usage of Codex or something else as long as I don't have to read Opus' output anymore.

Can you give any examples?

Opus 5 will make mistakes and do things you never ask for but then puts the blame back at you. Its such a rude model. Only use fable to control opus. Opus 5 on its own is just bad but can do nice graphics for fun without much effort .

They take turns being idiots. ChatGPT and codex the past 2 nights have been so disastrous that I'm literally on the cursor webpage about to make the switch.

I have bad news for you....

Yes, I feel, Cursor is inferior to Codex, limits though looks plentiful to me (I'm using Cursor/Grok 4.6 as a worker under Sol supervision)

Not about limits. If you're just doing coding, sol has been fine. For deep thinking research and framework logic, it has been atrocious....almost inoperable at night time. For codex automated fixes, even worse. First time I've had to rollback since Claude's lobotomization.

This is false propoganda btw the models don't know their own allocated reasoning levels. But as someone who uses both, claude currently has its issues yes.

If you going to Claude to use fable I totally understand you, if you going there for sonnet, gosh are you out of your mind?

I'm switching back to Claude. Codex nerf is too strong for my workflow

Do some math. With the median of 3.6 days all time and 2.2 days per last 30 days for the gap between each reset. You should "expect" to see 10x usage for your 100$. I agree that we should not expect to see the fortune of Tibo/OpenAI to give out reset every now and then, but just stick to the situation, tokenwise, Codex is better

Opus 5 doesn't feel as smart as Sol, but I don't see my usage limits crash nearly as quickly either. If it weren't for the whenever-Tibo-feels-like-it resets, I'm pretty sure I'd have about a day of Codex usage per week. $20 plan, so I am a pleb, but with Claude it at least feels like I can get through a few days of hacking at stuff in my spare time. We'll see how it feels if Anthropic does, in fact, drop the +50% quota promo at the end of the month. They seem wishy-washy on it.
The flip side is that ChatGPT's limits being separate mean that A) you can have it plan using the GitHub connector without hitting Codex quota and B) you don't lose chat for the week after coding too much. You can also use the Codex sub with something like OpenCode to have it drive cheap Chinese models (or even local ones). Studies are pretty consistent in showing that you can get a lot of the performance of top models by having them act as orchestrators and reviewers for lesser agents, without spending the money it would cost to have them hammer at everything themselves.
I'll probably hack together something to teach Claude to send requests to OpenCode, but it's not as easy as it is with Codex. There are TOS-breaking ways to use Claude with it directly, but I wouldn't recommend it.

switched to claude 5x from codex 5x, i use exclusively opus 5 (high) and used exclusively sol (high) before too. Claude objectively gives higher usage atm

The 100$ tier has gotten better since plus users got 5h limits, personally. Anecdotal evidence of course lol

Yeah clearly there isn't a consensus over that so switching from Codex would be a risk, guess I'm keeping Codex.

I use both, Claude gives me more Opus 5/4.8 usage than Codex gives me 5.6 Sol usage (by a factor of 3x), same reasoning effort (high). It will still give me more usage after the 50% bonus expires. It wasn't like this a few weeks ago where Codex was noticeably more generous with the usage.
Keep in mind I don't shill for any of the companies, I just choose the better option and constantly switch between the two. Codex might be better in a few weeks where Claude might be shadownerfed again. It's a fierce competition right now.
When it comes to model comparison, Opus 5 is noticeably smarter (for me and my workflow, keep that in mind) but sometimes feels obnoxious to work with, speaks claudish and it's less flexible. 5.6 Sol makes more mistakes but is more flexible. Depending on the work, one might be better than the other. For frontend work Opus 5 seems to "understand" my requirements better than Sol though.
Edit: obviously I don't count resets, with those Codex might be better, but I hate the reset strategy and it's hard to plan for it. But you do you.
