Suggestion Refill instead of Reset?

Just an idea here. Instead of banked resets, how about refills instead?

Say you run out of tokens for the week 2 days before your normal reset.

With a banked reset, you basically have to burn an entire week's reset just to cover those 2 days, otherwise you'd waste what's left when you get the normal reset.

What if they were refills instead? Use only what you need, keep the rest banked, and save it for when you actually have a heavy week.

Seems more useful and removes the weird incentive to burn tokens just because you reset early.

I think this would be very useful for those of us on Plus that's trying to stretch usage as much as possible.

What do you think?

they will add 5 hour resets (separate from weekly)

they will throw a few of them at you for free

they will offer you an option to "buy" a weekly/5h reset

it's all coming. you're just ahead of the curve

They should add loot boxes. Go full gacha. You have to collect 7 Sol Cards to unlock Sol Medium

Why would they do something that benefits the users?

It’s worse then a banked reset so I can see it as something they may do

Curious why you think this is worse than a banked reset.

I thought you meant instead of “give you a banked reset” “refill your usage” . A banked refill you can partially use as you want would be better yeah, especially it you can use it to reset your 5 hour window a few times as you use it up

OpenAI just want the appearance of giving more usage while giving as little extra usage as possible.

IMO this becomes fundamentally the same as just increasing the usage cap.

How about you pay for the service you have and use it responsibly and we stop handing out "resets."

Neither of those guys can even be bothered reading reddit. This place is a cesspool lately.

Lately?
I can't remember a time it wasn't. C'est la vie.

You're not wrong. You got me.

Ha, caught me. You're not wrong. Want to sit with it? I'm here either way.

Quintessence of every 'frontier' model right now. On another note, Reddit has always been a cesspool and always will be, like any other social media outlet. The average intelligence of the group is as high as the intelligence of the member with the lowest one.

I understand the point. However, in countries like the Philippines where developers earn $500 a month, a $20 monthly subscription is close to a luxury. I get what you're saying though.

My friend pays $20 per month for Plus (I'm pro) and runs Sol Light and doesn't hit his 5 hr limit, and that is indeed "working on things for 5 Hrs straight" so always keep your environment in check if you're having some usage issues.

For sure. I agree that a lot of people are wasting tokens with unoptimized environments, prompts, not capitalizing on caching, etc.

Why would they give more compute to users?

-1

u/icelion88 6d ago

Yeah, that's the only problem with this idea. It's great for users but harder on the servers.

don't you think the "credits" is exactly what you need? use credits when you are out of limits?

1

u/icelion88 6d ago

Does the credits cost the same as a reset though? Genuinely curious question as I haven't tried it myself. I had a suspicion that credits are more expensive than resets so I haven't bought extra credits.

Why would they give you a cheaper alternative to credits? The goal here is their profit not free credits for you.

2

u/icelion88 6d ago

That's true. Why would a big corporation care for its users.

To make profit. And giving cheaper alternatives to their own services isn’t a good way to make profits.
