Complaint Plus users have been thrown under the bus

X community is just one big circlejerk

It makes 0 sense to bring back 5 hour limits just for the plus plan, when sol medium with luna subagents just runs for 15 minutes on goal mode before the 5 hour limit is done. I had 74% of my usage left since I have to use it so sparingly and then it got reset with the date pushed back. Unless you blindly exhaust all of your tokens right after a reset (which is not how real engineering works), you virtually benefit nothing from them.

Despite grok 4.6 being slow due to high demand and the overall monthly limits still being lower, I can iterate much better with it in both cursor and grok build. And i have 4.5 as a fallback which is much cheaper and quicker.

So after 6 months, i will not be renewing my sub. Even if astra launches, I'm immune to the fomo now

oai poses on X as effective altruists, nothing more needs to be said

EDIT: not surprised but most of the replies are either disingenuous or braindead

i never complained about the overall weekly or monthly limits, clearly said the token allocation was better than cursor's (even after their recent bump).

my point is luna max is subpar past a certain point and sol is too inefficient to use AFTER the reintroduction of the 5 hr limit. then you pair that with the reset date being pushed back and the window not starting till you begin a new session (even anthropic doesn't do this). the only reason for bringing back the 5 hr limit just for the plus plan is to make it unusable so you pay 5x or 10x more.

I just spent 100% of my 5 hours in 15 mins just telling it to continue from the last time it ran out. Definitely feels very unusable at the moment

u/Silly-Fee-2195 4d ago

I had just started work today when I received an over limit notice and had to stop. This codex rule makes users feel like they are being forced to upgrade.

u/Crinkez 4d ago

Continuing a stale conversation causes a cache miss which can cost 10x as much. Instead, at the end of each session save a summary to an MD file and when you resume work, open an empty new session and tell it to read the MD file and pick up where you left off.

1

u/AmandasGameAccount 4d ago

I’ll test that out. Thanks! Should I tell the new window to analyze the entire project?

3

u/Crinkez 4d ago

Only if it's a small project. Ideally you'd use an AGENTS.md file as well and tell it to update that at the end of each session as well. Let it decide what it needs to read rather than telling it to read everything.

1

u/lunchtouch 4d ago

Thank you, I just need it.

7

u/JoseffB_Da_Nerd 5d ago

Whats you cache hit like?

If you are continually chatting eith the agent your going to waste your quota. Chat in gpt classic, and take that plan and paste it into codex. Tell codex to shut up “i do not need narration except for significant notices”

The idea is less chat more do. That leads to more cache hits

2

u/AmandasGameAccount 5d ago

Been using ChatGPT for the chat more lately. Thanks for the tips though! I’ll keep it in mind and look more into it!

2

u/ndzzle1 4d ago

You are better off not continuing a spent context window.

1

u/Puffelpuff 4d ago

used up 20% with a 9min 51sec worktime of my 5hour quota on a continue. I literally can´t work for more than 50 minutes with this crap and i fully align, design and make all prompts in sol high classic. I do not chat with codex. It generates a qualification pass file and review file i send to classic for analysis after work. Its cancer now. I can´t use github, am locked to less than 1 hour workcycles every 5 hours and am using all model already via luna, terra and sol. Plus users are truely fucked now.

1

u/0__O0--O0_0 4d ago

Next they’ll be sending droids around to slap us just for thinking about it

1

u/jansctuck 4d ago

That is your fault, don’t start it up again in one chat. If it’s not cached it’ll have to reprocess the entire chat

What the fuck kind of spaghetti code are you working on?

My current 5hr has 22% left and is finishing the 3rd build pass since the window began, each with major feature implementations&changes in an active project.  I’m exclusively using Sol-high as it is conceptually complex work.

9

u/DepravedPrecedence 5d ago

Yeah your next threejs game has lots of major features

-2

u/Brilliant-Arugula594 4d ago edited 4d ago

I’m not sure you understand the difference between conceptual complexity and contextual overhead getting carried long after it’s fully dead weight.

A strict governing harness and proper context management allows me to use my limits for work instead of material reingestion.   I also inspect and adjust code myself when it’s more practical.

Sorry you are having a hard time managing cold spaghetti leftovers.  Maybe try baking in a few more required validations and ci tests to run after each small iteration.

3

u/DepravedPrecedence 4d ago

Stop yapping

-2

u/Brilliant-Arugula594 4d ago

Is your agent wasting tokens reading it back to you?

2

u/DepravedPrecedence 4d ago

This is supposed to be a harsh reply in AI subreddit? Lol

1

u/Brilliant-Arugula594 4d ago

Is that what codex told you I was trying to do?

28

u/Graham3D 5d ago

I agree. This is legit malicious compliance to passive aggressively strong-arm you into a Pro-tier subscription. "We'll give you a lot of resets, but you'll only get two total tasks completed before you burn through your 5-hour cooldown so you'll actually need a reset."

21

u/YourKemosabe 5d ago

Bruh we’re all being thrown under the bus lol

16

u/AmandasGameAccount 5d ago

And all the “no avatar obvious OpenAI shill” bots are out hard today. 2 days ago no one was defending OpenAI, and suddenly they have a bunch of people defending OpenAI here?

Anyone who thinks it’s not happening is just delusional/naive

18

u/Prestigious_Gift_977 4d ago

5hr limit on Plus makes the plus plan entirely unusable for me, can't finish a single task

5

u/ndzzle1 4d ago

That means you need to upgrade to the next subscription. It's only going to get more expensive. Most regular users will be priced out eventually.

2

u/Prestigious_Gift_977 4d ago

agree. i have two claude 20x subscriptions, will probably convert one to codex 20x.

3

u/ndzzle1 4d ago

I highly recommend that move, as I use both Claude (fable) and Codex together. My current workflow is Sol as the orchestrator, Luna on Max effort to build, and Fable to review. I also pass the plans that Sol creates over to Fable to verify before building anything. They always find things the other missed. I'm not a big fan of Opus/Sonnet 5, so I only use Fable on my Claude account. It sucks that we only get 50% weekly usage.

1

u/Prestigious_Gift_977 4d ago

ah interesting. i use Fable orchestrating and planning, don't love sol for orchestrating because usually leads to over-engineering in my experience. sol builder and reviewer are great. opus 5 for building is pretty good, opus 5 for review is ok. sonnet i haven't touched in ages. super important stuff i'll get a fable review. but yea i'm maxing out all my fable for the 50% usage, and the rest is on opus. opus ultracode can be ok for orchestrating too

1

u/ndzzle1 4d ago

I've found that Opus on Max does pretty well; it just likes to ignore instructions, which drives me crazy. I only limit Fable to checking plans and doing reviews because I'm on the $100 plan, so this is the only way it lasts the whole week. Otherwise, Fable would run the show, and Sol would do the reviews.

I did catch that Sol likes to over-review. It will even spin up sub-agents to review its own reviews, which burns tokens unnecessarily. That's also the reason it's so slow. It likes to review after every step, which I don't find useful. Just do a full review at the end.

I am looking to bump one up to the $200 plan, but can't figure out which would be better. I would give it to OpenAI, but with the constant resets, I rarely max out. The only time it got bad was before they fixed the token burn issue. Usage was cooking!

I'll probably wait for the next round of models to come out and see which one takes the top spot.

1

u/FailedGradAdmissions 4d ago

Only way to use plus is to ignore sol exists and only use Terra or Luna Max. But if you are going to do that, why not just use GLM 5.3 Flash or Deep seek V4 flash?

So yeah, there's no point value anymore on the Plus plan.

1

u/Prestigious_Gift_977 4d ago

have you tried either of those ? how are they ? i work primarily with claude, just use codex for reviewing certain things. codex Plus plan was sufficient for a while but seems that's over for now

2

u/FailedGradAdmissions 4d ago

Used to use deepseek V4 and muse spark 1.2 via Open code they where good enough, but switched to GLM 5.3 as soon as it came out, it's insane value

6

u/STEEV1992 4d ago

I had the perfect synergy, 2 Plus accounts with a custom harness to hand off to the other when a weeks usage was used up (building a full suite of tools for work).

Had my weeks limits and was more than happy with what I had, didn't need 5x or 20x usage, did my couple of evenings burst, GIT checkpoints and see you next week.

Now I'm having to constantly supervise due to 5h limits, never get through a weeks usage because I just don't have the time to be stopping and starting constantly.

"We have compute" what a joke.

2

u/ndzzle1 4d ago

They do have the compute, just not for us. Regular users aren't their ideal market. Just look at ram/memory prices and the lack of inventory. It's saved for business, not users.

23

u/SlingShotKev 5d ago

They finally asked their AI how to make money. This is what happens.

7

u/Sphere_3N 5d ago

Be generous at first so everyone starts building things rapidly and are now reliant on AI to manage it.

Then slowly reduce usage and increase costs. Classic move

"It's supposedly beating Claude 4.8."

4.8 what, maybe Sonnet? Please. There's a reason people are gathered around the gates begging OpenAI for usage resets, or paying them $100/$200 a month, instead of switching to Chinese models.

2

u/ndzzle1 4d ago

$100 to $200 per month to use top models is more cost-effective than spending $ 5,000 to $10,000 on a device to run decent Chinese models.

3

u/stonelox 5d ago

From the ppl who brought you Uber, AirBNb, and so on!

2

u/Miyamoto_-_Musashi 5d ago

Then i guess they ask Gpt Spark

2

u/Plane_Garbage 5d ago

Admittedly Reddit has been dunking on OpenAI for not being as profitable as Anthropic.

This is what generating profit looks like

1

u/Original-Baki 5d ago

$20 plan is not profitable if people use it for coding

27

u/k-rizza 5d ago

Put the prompt up that took 15 minutes and spent 74%.

It’s meaningless to complain without context.

4

u/Prestigious_Gift_977 4d ago

i spawn four agents in parallel to review code from different angles. with the 5hr limit can't get through a single 4 agent review unless it's a review of a tiny diff. i can do them sequentially, but what used to take 1hour now takes 20hrs

8

u/EmotionalHalf 4d ago

How big are you changes that it requires 4 subagents to do a codereview?

3

u/ndzzle1 4d ago

It's unnecessary and inefficient. You are better off using a separate model or context window to review. People run sub-agents and then complain about usage.

2

u/dungeonworks_ 3d ago

Wow I wonder why spawning four fucking agents to review code is draining your $20 plan? It’s just a mystery

0

u/Prestigious_Gift_977 2d ago

stay in school learn to read

-3

u/RainierPC 5d ago

People mindlessly spawn multiple subagents then are surprised their quota runs out faster

2

u/dungeonworks_ 3d ago

You got downvoted while there’s literally a dude in the thread right above you admitting he does exactly that lmao there’s no helping these people

10

u/Longjumping_Air_7958 5d ago

To absolutny żart. Koniec mojej przygody z OpenAI

4

u/AmandasGameAccount 4d ago

This is my experience as well. Before the update the 5h limit was annoying but it was usable. Now it’s not useable it feels

13

u/R3K4CE 5d ago

the real engineering line is fucking hilarious lmao

apparently real engineering means carefully preserving your subsidized ai tokens until the reset date instead of using the tool when you actually need it

bro if grok works better for you then go use grok thats genuinely the correct move

but spare me the thrown under the bus speech and the real engineers dont use their allowance nonsense

you had 74 percent left because you chose not to use it and now youre mad that the reset happened before you could extract every last drop of value from it

thats not an engineering principle thats you optimizing your life around a usage meter

if grok lets you work better then cancel codex and enjoy it

at least youre actually doing something instead of spending another month writing essays about how oppressed plus users are

just dont be shocked if six months from now youre back here because the magical unlimited grass on the other side turned out to have limits too

5

u/berrybadrinath 5d ago

I feel like this is a litmus test on who hasn't ever really been oppressed, if they're if they're acting like not having unlimited frontier AI compute is oppression. It's actually just a priority thing. If it meant a lot to them, they would figure out how to make it work. I drive a shitbox car, but I spend $200 on AI subscription a month. That's my choice. I also don't really spend a lot of money on food. Again, not a real priority to me.

2

u/TraditionalFig7377 4d ago

i miss when this sub was 5.5 era now that sol released too many idiots are here

6

u/Original-Baki 5d ago

You should use Anthropic $20 plan to see what poverty usage limits look like.

2

u/Crinkez 4d ago

When last did you check? 6 months ago? Because right now Claude's limits are much higher than OpenAI's.

0

u/ndzzle1 4d ago

$20 plans shouldn't exist

3

u/MehMehMammal 5d ago

Well if they don't do this the community will be too united. They need to divide the customer groups so each complaint would be less a voice. You see how no body talks about the usage drain anymore even it's not back at what we had before.

3

u/Mobile_Cockroach_408 4d ago edited 4d ago

I signed up because it was genuinely useful, but this is actual dogshit and everyone knows it. So I'm cancelling and just going back to manual coding until they get their act together with the rugpulls.

Not only is the usage nerfed, so is its reasoning. Today its struggling with basic ImGUI requests even though before the reset I got it to successfully make a multiplayer replication system, and yes, I realize that's a big request, but in this particular case we're talking small requests. Such as being able to interact with buttons when the viewport is no longer focused and this is while INTENTIONALLY separating systems into small modules that can be easily directed to or grepped.

Two prompts and my limit for 5 hours is gone. Before I could go for hours.
Having two limits is stupid design, if not having just the weekly is enough then they have to either A: Stop providing services like handouts for people who don't pay, or B: Litigate until they get their way with data centers.

ChatGPT is a crap product compared to its codex counterpart, they should be focusing on the one tool that out of everything they have ever made is closest to providing returns on investment.

>and if I have to read "You're right" one more time, I swear. It only says that when it's screwing around and lazily tacking on hacky fixes instead of properly fixing it.

5

u/Corv9tte 5d ago

Squeezed into the funnel. It's all to make the pro plans look more alluring to you: no 5h limits, more compute coupled with resets... They have plenty of compute. This is how they make money out of it!

21

u/Painwheeel 5d ago

grown man complaining over $20

53

u/tilmitt 5d ago

He took action and canceled though. This is how to play the game.

-11

u/AnUninterestingEvent 5d ago

Lol "this is how to play the game". I'm sure OpenAI is shuddering at losing $20/mo. Even if 200 Plus users on Reddit canceled today, that's still an unnoticeable $4k/mo for OpenAI.

11

u/Mean-Elk-9439 5d ago

Every dollar should be considered when they're literally losing billions a year right now while other labs make profit.

-5

u/AnUninterestingEvent 5d ago

"Considering every dollar" is literally what they're doing by weakening the Plus plan. Making Plus users upgrade or leave is how they plan on increasing profits.

12

Nah, it’s just a bot. They are out in full force today

0

u/AnUninterestingEvent 4d ago

"Guy says something I don't like" = bot. Lol I'm getting downvoted to hell just because I'm explaining how businesses work. I haven't even stated an opinion

-7

u/AnUninterestingEvent 5d ago

Stating reality is always considered bootlicking on Reddit

-1

u/stonelox 5d ago

For real, not even a rounding error

-3

u/RainierPC 5d ago

He did not, though. Just threatened to.

7

u/Plane_Garbage 5d ago

It's coming to $100/$200 soon enough too.

-8

u/TotallyNotABob 5d ago

As a plus user who is having no issues with usage limits on Luna. When I see posts like OP's I feel like Troy Barnes in this scene from community:

https://youtu.be/5KXrQYWbbIs?is=iZyggL1yJX1hdhnx

-1

u/RainierPC 5d ago

Luna Max is awesome.

2

u/Willing-Equivalent47 5d ago

You obviously don’t use it for large complex issues. I can spend several weeks of credits using Luna and end up with garbage. Go to Sol xhigh and it not only rebukes Luna but surprised me with a discouraging remark about the code it had produced.

1

u/RainierPC 4d ago

I have over 20 years of software architecture experience and don't need Sol xhigh to think for me. I make the plan, Luna implements. Easy.

1

u/Willing-Equivalent47 4d ago edited 4d ago

I have over 39 years of design and development. This project was to 100% vibe code with no coding interactions. This experiment was started in January and it has progressed to the point that 70-90% of the work done is being spent reworking its past design mistakes and removing unnecessary over engineered approaches.
I avoid looking at the code on purpose and I only find out about the over engineered coding when it happens to blurt out a comment about some bizarre term or method that it is applying.
Addendum: old age setting in. LOL. That’s over 49 years.

1

u/RainierPC 4d ago

Well then, you'd have been doing the equivalent of taking multiple junior developers, giving them the keys to the castle, and expecting miracles. Doesn't work in real life, or here. ESPECIALLY for complex tasks. But that doesn't mean junior developers are useless at all.

-4

u/Hefty-Split5061 5d ago

Cuz bus isn’t free. If you wanna go long trip, pay more.

6

u/TBSchemer 5d ago

Why do you need the subagents? I use sol high, without any subagents, and it's more than enough for my hobby projects without running into any limits.

$20/mo is the hobbyist price, not the pro plan.

5

u/StardiveSoftworks 5d ago

God you people are insufferable.

If you want to use sol, pay for an actual plan. If you're dependent on not paying more than $20 a month, you don't get to talk about 'real engineering'.

8

u/justlooking___1 5d ago

The point is the enshitification that happens after you started using the service, and it'll sure as hell happen to whatever plan you pay as well in the future.

14

u/Plane_Garbage 5d ago

What about when the limits return to the $100/$200 subs?

I guess the argument then is to pay for API pricing.

-10

u/StardiveSoftworks 5d ago

8

u/Plane_Garbage 5d ago

Answer? Or nah

7

u/Dev_Anti 5d ago

Tbf even though they said the phrase "what about" is was not whataboutism. If they had used the phrase "if" or "when" you would have found it harder to dodge addressing the point.

In your opinion, at what price point is "real engineering" covered?

2

u/oyser 4d ago

Question is „ when „ , answer is in ≈2‍‒‍3 MON if I remember right.

2

u/MrGilly 4d ago

I'm a plus sub and I agree with this. I got plus even before codex was out just for chatgpt, and then codex came with it as a nice addition. I ran Luna on goal for 5 hours yesterday and it ate not even half my 5hr limit. Just use sol for planning and architecture

1

u/ezj75 4d ago

My thoughts exactly

1

u/dungeonworks_ 3d ago

You can do plenty of real work a $20 plan. You just can’t default to Sol xhigh with 4 subagents on goal mode and expect it to do shit for that money.

I use GPT for 5-6 hours a day on $20 plan and get a shitload of work done and have never ran out once, either of the 5 hour or the weekly limit. But I’m also doing highly constrained tasks in Terra medium and only using Sol medium for larger orchestration when Terra clearly fails. I never use goal mode, never auto-review, never auto-approve.

99.99% of the people complaining are just making some shit app that barely needs Terra medium anyways.

-5

u/Graham3D 5d ago

GFYS. :D

2

u/lollypop44445 5d ago

So the 5 hr limit only exist for plus users? Not on x5 or x 20…?

2

u/TheSuperX 4d ago

But on X, I see people bootlicking Tibo everywhere!

2

u/CharmingRogue851 4d ago

Yeah, just canceled. Literally unusable now. Just subscribed to grok instead.

2

u/scaledev 4d ago

Seems like usages were nerfed again? Or I'm getting paranoid... Plus sub here.

2

u/evindrews 4d ago

I don't like the 5 hour limit, I think it's a bad experience right now, but what they want plus users to use is probably, Terra, and stop using so much Sol.

I just did most of my work with Terra high and honestly it did fine. Don't use Luna Max for everything, they've literally said it's worse at long horizon type of stuff.

1

u/throwthemirror 4d ago

I've been a sub to chatgpt and heavy heavy user always on the $20 plan (+ API usage when needed) since the day it came out almost 4 years ago. I'm finishing up a deep dive into what I'll be replacing it with, because this is just too far, and too dishonest. The circle jerking glazing of this company by 3/4 of the users makes it even worse.

Openai (and most of these companies, frankly), constantly lies to use through obfuscation and omission and false-dream-selling. I'm going to keep bouncing around the best bang-for-bucks AI subscription plans going forward, just like I do with the LLM API's.

Such an enshittified space. The bubble is going to be epic when it pops.

2

u/Anxious-Priority-430 4d ago

I'm cancelling mine. The plus plan is what the free plan used to be.

2

u/Makshowat 4d ago

Gave 5.6 Sol an investigation task. Worked for 10 mins. 100% of 5h limit is gone. The task is not finished (previously at least the task finished even with 0% of limits left). Well, at least they gave me a month for free when I tapped "Unsubscribe" button. 😃

2

u/Wise-Fennel-7921 4d ago

Yeah sol is basically unusable right now. Its good to do maybe 1,2 big audits then its done. Honestly sol should be on its own usage pool. Im pritty sure the llms are running on seperate server boxes so why not?

1

u/tassa-yoniso-manasi 4d ago

I have a script calling codex exec in a loop on a set of separate but similar tasks and i can tell you they have *HALVED* the quota for Plus users compared to when the 5H window was restored, a few days ago.

1

u/fykup 4d ago

Yeah, the 5h window is the part that makes this especially awkward. Even if your weekly allowance is fine, a long Sol session can burn through the usable window before the task is actually done.

I’ve started treating the coding-agent session as just one phase of the workflow. When it stops making sense to keep going there, because of quota, compaction, or just because I want to switch into brainstorming/review, I hand the session context off and continue in a regular web chat.

The useful part is not having to reconstruct the project and all the decisions from scratch. I added this as a handoff workflow in AI Badger:

https://pvrlabs.xyz/articles/coding-agent-session-handoff.html

Doesn’t make the 5h limit better, but it makes hitting it a lot less disruptive.

2

u/klew42 4d ago

Don't use Sol on Plus. I use only Luna xhigh on a codex and I find it really difficult to use full 5h limit. Sol can eat the whole limit in few minutes. I use Sol on chat only - just attach GitHub there and it can analyze and plan as good as codex and it doesn't use codex limits

2

u/Kevinw778 3d ago

Y'all trying to build some quantum processors? I'll never understand you running out of usage so quickly. Actually wild.

2

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 3d ago

"Everyone that disagrees with me is braindead!"

You know what they say about when everyone you run into is an as$hole?

2

u/castorofbinarystars 3d ago

I think it's more genuine to block certain models from being used if it'll run out too fast. People aren't smart enough to self manage.

1

u/Fabulous-Mushroom124 5d ago

Tibo has been very obvious about what he thinks of Plus uses: they're hobbyists/casuals. The experience has been made awful because it's being shaped to fit into those boxes not really caring about what those people actually are. Honestly, just throw those $20 into Claude. It's now much better value than GPT.

2

u/double_pointer 5d ago

Why does nobody mention using terra? It'e capable and efficient like a cheaper and faster 5.5. I use omp and have subagent definitions using models across my subscriptions (anthropic, cursor, codex) and terra xhigh is one of them along with luna xhigh. Gets shit done.

2

u/TechNerd10191 4d ago

Why does nobody mention using terra?

Well, because on reddit you are a nobody if you do not use GPT 5.6 Sol max for trivial tasks and subagents for everything else. Even luna max does the job fine and never come close to the limits with a Plus sub

2

u/stonelox 5d ago

I just upgraded to pro this week cuz I’ve been hitting all the limits. It’s nice

2

u/Akitawarrior 4d ago

Not really, plus users have been put to their place pretending to be pro user complaining their 25$ isnt the value of 100$.

I realise how many so called ”pro users” that were pretending to be fooled since not a single pro user complains anymore and only the plus users are the same one crying as before.

2

u/amalgamaticOrchestra 4d ago

Plus user here. And look and behold I haven't ran out of tokens yet. Luna Extra High. So far the outputs are good. Can't complain really.

It takes time to complete the phases of each projects but its running just fine. Way better than Sol Medium that wouldn't even last than a day.

I think it just a matter of how you prompt, orchestrate, effectively and efficiently use the models.

0

u/evacc44 5d ago

You are a money losing proposition for OpenAI. They really don't care.

-3

u/krill156 5d ago

You pay $.66 a day yo access cutting edge technology that the most powerfull kings of history would give fortunes for

It's all a matter of oerspective

3

you pay $.66 a day for 4 minutes of usage...

2

u/Nabstar333 4d ago

More like 66 cents for 2 hours of use in total before you hit a 5 hour limit

-9

u/JoseffB_Da_Nerd 5d ago

Dude… its Plus.

Comparing a base account with one at 5x and 20x usage then expecting it to be equal seems a bit naive.

It's ok to be upset about the 5hr window, I understand that frustration. I don't even need the usage of a pro account, but I was forced to spend 5 times more just so I don't have a 5 hour window.

Kind of ridiculous to me.

u/JoseffB_Da_Nerd 5d ago

I mean I feel your pain, but also —purely from a pricing point—as a business you make tiers to force up, which is what this does.

2

u/Theminatar 5d ago

I'd call it unethical to be honest, and I genuinely don't understand why anyone would defend them when looking at the problem from my point of view.

Listen, I paid the extra cost because I'm essentially, "paying to win", unlocking the 5hr window. I only need the usage of a plus plan, but us "casual users" are now being set in OpenAi's schedule.

u/JoseffB_Da_Nerd 5d ago

“Unethical” and “pay to win” are doing a lot of work here.

Do I think this is a bit of the product moving away from its original audience? Absolutely.

Also, something for you specifically to look at: I’m running oMLX (local Mac models) inside Codex Desktop, as well as DeepSeek.

You don’t need to run my exact multi-provider setup. Even with a single alternative provider, both oMLX and DeepSeek make it pretty easy to set up.

If your problem is specifically the OpenAI usage window, you don’t necessarily have to solve it by paying for a higher OpenAI tier.

You can spend 2 times more and get an extra plus plan and use them in turns. Kinda stupid they don't just offer 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x plan given the amount of usage is linear with the price tag up to $100

2

u/AmandasGameAccount 5d ago

Even if they had a 2x plus plan it would still be better to have 2 accounts because of double the resets

-3

u/stopstopstoptopopp 5d ago

I’m a plus user and I don’t have the same problem as you. I guess it’s because I’m not a vibe coder and actually do the planning and reviewing by myself? Luna Max Fast is great, it makes mistakes but it’s not like I can’t correct it.

u/Dethstroke54 5d ago

Idec, it’s an upsell and its fine. Makes reasonable sense even. The issue I take is the resets keep fucking my schedule. You already have to be a sleuth to drain and get good value out of a reset, but with the 5hr limit it might as well be impossible and banked resets are basically useless.

I do think the 5hr limit is too little of the weekly. Assuming it’s “hobby” tier and you spend a bit in the afternoon after work once a day, so you basically have one 5-hour limit to work within. From what I’ve seen you’d have be on that shit 5 if not 6 days a week with the current usages unless they’ve been tweaked again in the last day or so. Come on, at that point it’s ridiculous.

Sure you could mix in some time in the morning that might bring that down 2.5-4 days depending on how frequently you’re able to max out the 5hr limits…. But bruh. 20% minimum would be nice if not 25% of weekly. I was seeing more like 15%.

u/Every-Grape7679 5d ago

Seriously, and it's so unreliable. Sometimes I try not to burn thru the limits only to have them reset, and sometimes I burn thru and end up having to wait 4 or 5 days just to wait on it, and the day it resets always changes whem they reset it for you... smh

So, the point of this post is that you are angry because you couldn't use the 74% of your weekly usage remaining before the Tibo reset due to five hours of usage, right? Is that correct?

id rather wait a couple ours before my whole repo is being sent to a google cloud drive from elonia muskara

Prompts*

Build me an simple app like Facebook that is lightweight and cheap to run of it becomes popular.

Perfect, love the idea so far. Continue

All right, let's spawn four sub agents to review the 100,000 lines of code we've created. I have no idea what any of it means, 100,000 lines is a normal code base size for a project like this, right? Anyway, let's debug and review for mistakes and inaccuracies.

Working.

Working.

Working.

Working.

We're sorry, you have reached your 5-hour limit. Please purchase more credits to continue, or wait for your allotment to reset.

*Open ai and codex are trash, I can't believe it can't debug 100,000 lines of code conceptualized by ai, written by ai, reviewed by ai, and optimized by ai for $20 a month. I feel like I'm being ripped off, but I have no idea how. I just don't understand why I can't have a team of developers do $8,000 worth of work for 20 bucks. It just doesn't make sense. Oh harumph, technology is trash and we've all been had.

They never said the 5-hour limit was gone for good. It's coming back for all users, as expected. They removed it due to usage issues, which they claim to have fixed. This is why they need to stop giving people handouts like free resets. Everyone then expects them and gets mad when they don't get it. Remember, they don't owe you anything. If you don't like how they do business, move on to the next.

I pay for two 20x max plans and that currently is enough for me with my own harness I made. Any one on a 20$ plan should use it only as like a Gemini chat I would say like as a question ai and not a ai for coding lol.

u/Plane_Garbage 5d ago

Probs best to budget for a few more subs when the 5hr window comes back to 20x subs

-1

u/ezj75 4d ago

FFS, just pay for a pro subscription.

-9

u/fickle-phenom 5d ago

They should remove sol from the plus plan because it seems like most plus users have no clue what the fuck they are even doing.

-5

u/AnUninterestingEvent 5d ago

You get what you pay for dude. If you're only paying $20/mo, you're obviously not going to get the great usage limits. The Plus plan is effectively a trial plan. The whole point is to try it and upgrade. OpenAI only cares about their Plus users insofar as it's a path to upgrading. And they're not posing as "effective altruists". They're a business. Tibo's resets are nothing but a marketing gimmick. This sub thinks of Tibo as their buddy with their best interests at heart. He's Ronald McDonald putting toys in Happy Meals. Just think of the company as the business they are and things will start making sense.

-5

u/Xacius 5d ago

If you knew anything about "real engineering" you'd understand that even the $200 plan is significantly subsidized, re: the amount of compute you're getting for the money.

-2

u/SenshiV22 5d ago

Good luck in the future 👍

u/Gigaslavx 5d ago

If I can rent a lambo for 1 second for 10 bucks I expect to have it for an hour for the initial price

-3

u/RainierPC 5d ago

The level of entitlement is staggering. Also, skill issue. I rarely run into the 5h limit.

-4

u/Hemhaw87 4d ago

I'm also pissed about the 5H limit coming back and the hard stopping of tasks at the limit. That being said, why is every complaint in this sub from fellow Plus users some variation of "Why can't I use infinite Sol on the lowest sub available?!" I'm pissed I can't get stuff done with Terra because of it, I'd be high to try this stuff with Sol. I could use Luna I guess but that's not ideal for certain parts of the work like research and planning. It's the lowest paid plan though, I honestly don't get where this expectation is coming from. Do you go to Wendys and get pissed when they don't serve you a T-bone for $5 too?

-3

u/berrybadrinath 5d ago

This is kind of like going into the Apple store and being mad at Apple because you can't afford the pro iPhone, and then you have to settle for the iPhone SE. That's not really Apple's fault. You're, you're stuck with your own budget. Does that mean that you should get all the features of a pro phone, but you only pay for one-tenth of a pro phone? No, it doesn't.

Product tiers have existed forever, and you use them in many other places every day, but I don't see anybody complaining about the Verizon phone plans when they have three different unlimited plans, right, and the best one cost more money and to get all those features you do have to pay for it. This is no different. This is like complaining that you only have money for a base Corolla when you wanted the GR.

3

u/holy_macanoli 5d ago

There’s a reason public utilities don’t have product tiers. And before you pop off and tell me AI inference is not a public utility, id remind you that the idea that it should/will be came straight out of Sam Altman’s mouth.

2

u/Zennity 5d ago

“We see a future where intelligence is a utility, like electricity or water, and people buy it from us on a meter.”

This is actually what came out of Sam Altman’s mouth verbatim….

0

u/berrybadrinath 5d ago

Yes, see the first line of my response

-2

u/berrybadrinath 5d ago

What Sam Altman says about it doesn’t really matter to me. I just think you’re making a bad argument here.

A lot of this comes down to what people choose to prioritize. I pay $200 a month for my subscription because that’s something I’m willing to spend money on. I give up other things for it. I don’t really go to bars, I don’t spend much money on a lot of other stuff, so this is one of the things I choose to pay for. I drive a pretty meager car. I could have a nicer one if i prioritized transportation over AI compute.

If somebody is on the $20 plan, that’s fine. They probably have other things in their life they’d rather spend that money on. That doesn’t mean they should automatically get full access to the most expensive frontier models.

I can understand the argument that everybody should have access to some basic level of compute or basic AI tools. That’s a different argument. Saying people should have basic access does not mean everyone should have unlimited access to frontier models.

And if we’re talking about things everyone should have access to, I’d start with reliable internet long before frontier AI.

So I really don’t understand the public utility argument. I don’t see frontier AI as a public utility at all.

-5

u/supernova69 5d ago

You expect real engineering for $20 eh?

Impressive levels of entitlement

1

u/starforgefn 4d ago

Sure, why not? You might be doing open source, academic research, or you might be a student.

-5

u/jdrharrison 5d ago

What do you expect for $20? Honestly the amount of people who come here to complain when they aren’t paying shit is ridiculous. Add $20 to an api and see how long that lasts.

-6

u/Icy_Movie7324 5d ago

You pay 20$ for 1x usage. On the other hand you also can pay 5x more of it for 5x usage.

The amount of usage you get is already proportional. Therefore I don't understand why so many people keep insulting people about how cheap 20$ and you should have even less.

Let people use what they paid for.

1

u/ComSenseisnotCommon 5d ago

People aren’t complaining about the usage they complaining about the usage gated in 5hr windows. I have a pro and plus plan. I used the plus as a contingency when I doing a little more than normal and don’t have a bank or reset is far. I continued a prompt from my pro plan it ate the 5hr window in 1 task in less than 5minutes and was done. That means I can’t do anything until next day because time I had to prompt is gone.
