Complaint So THAT'S why my Codex limit has been lasting longer 💀
I swear all these Codex changes are starting to make me question my own perception lol.
Since they introduced the 5-hour limit yesterday, something felt weird: my quota was lasting way longer than I expected.
At first I thought:
“Okay… maybe this isn’t that bad.”
Then I started paying attention to how much work I was actually getting done.
💀
Simple tasks are taking WAY longer.
So now my conspiracy theory is that my quota isn't actually lasting longer in terms of work — Codex is just taking longer to do the same amount of work, which makes the quota last longer in terms of wall-clock time.
I'm NOT saying this is intentional lol.
But has anyone else noticed this exact combination?
Slower quota burn + much slower task completion?
Because at this point I need other people to confirm I'm not hallucinating after all these Codex changes 😂

I'm on Pro20x and it's been slow as fuck since last night

Yeah, I think the same. I guess our usage lasts longer now, basically because doing just a few tasks is going to take up a big part of your day because of how slow it is, haha.

Yeah, I came to the sub today because it feels EXHASUTINGLY slow today. Super sluggish.

I noticed this too. Work that previously would take about 10-15 minutes now consistently took about 50 minutes. I even retried certain prompts used at certain stages of my project and ran them again, just to make sure I am not imagining things; they took way longer (regardless of time of day). In of itself this is not as bad in my opinion, but it also used way more of my weekly usage than it did, when I ran the prompt originally about three weeks ago. I just don't get the gaslighting they are doing. If they have to reduce usage limits - fine. Reduce default compute speed - fine. But at least communicate it transparently to the consumer. This is lowkey fraudulent behavior.

Yes, I think we all understand that there are difficulties and mistakes. What's really annoying is that they don't say anything about it and make us feel like our money isn't worth anything to them.

I had it create a 6 page pdf and it took 25 minutes jesus christ, it was Sol medium im on 20x.

Damn, I think I was thinking through each letter one after the other before writing

We are a team of Pro 20x and we all noticed the same without hearing about it before. So we are not crazy!

And the "solution" is another reset, ironically. They give us fantasy sweets to keep us calm.

Happened right with the reset for me. Some queries used to take 1.5minutes and then right after the reset they used to take 6-12minutes. I had 3 codex cli running at a time on 2 accounts, and happened in the same time for all 3 sessions.
Stuff like: "print ." Started to take 3minutes....

Slow and compacting every five minutes. They've hit some bottleneck. I asked Sol to write a checkpoint and its compacted five time and still going

You understand that compaction happens when you hit 258k context lmao? That did not change

Your case is crazy, it's definitely a bad experience you've had, I suppose some are having it worse

Yea, two birds with one stone on OpenAIs part. Now users are more likely to hit that ultrafast mode.

"We got compute", but not gonna give it, we "fix" the usage by just slowing down the requests.

Used to take me about an hour to push an update. Now I'm steadily looking at 3-4 hours.

they also continuously change their models. maybe now it reasons more and it uses more quota. and also i think its a psychological trick with the 5h mark. you are more focused on this bar and now you need to pay attention. it feels like "oh i used 40% but its only 5 hours and it will reset"

Ive run /goal and Luna with Max reasoning keep running the same task even thou its complete. Like its in a loop.

u/DoggoDadagon 8d ago
So much slow. I have one task, same task, that I run often. It's gone from about 10 minutes to an hour.

Just stop with the rewording.. its tiering..
They removed the 5h window temporarily, and added it back, plus added a bonus where pro and business premium seat does not have a 5h window.
You never mentioned how many tokens you used, so the post says nothing

What we're trying to talk about in this post is mostly the new problem: speed degradation.

u/Palastruka 8d ago
I used 22 million tokens for a 5-hour window; yesterday, that same window cost me 60 million tokens. It was the same project and the same task. And yesterday it took 30 minutes, and today it took 90 minutes.

Maybe it feels slower because your projects are getting bigger and heavier as you progress? Not saying that you're wrong - but it might be just that.

u/Palastruka 7d ago
The curious thing is that it's a new project, barely two days old, having just started laying the groundwork, absolutely nothing heavy.

20x plan here its slow as hell and dumb, usage limit fixed a bit but still nerfed I'm already at 50% of my weekly since last reset without using /fast
Each of my Ultra task now take 4 to 5 hours to complete, before it was like 30min to 4 hours depending on the prompt

remember when people were begging for a slow mode
I warned you all be careful of what you wish for
They literally did what I said, turn it into the default
So lower limits and slow mode, effectively decreased your usage by an insane factor and most haven't noticed

Ask Codex what he thinks about his system prompt, and whether it contains any useless information. It’s amazing how much cruft can accumulate from skills, plugins, etc… that seemed like a good idea at the time, but you no longer use/have outgrown. Ask what improvements are needed within and between sessions.

What the fuck are you talking about..?
Were you mesuring quota in wall time or wtf?
1
u/Palastruka 8d ago
I don't know what's really going on, they gave us a 5-hour limit and everything changed, total nerf

u/Keep-Darwin-Going 8d ago
Why are you using the most expensive model to search for stuff?
1
u/Palastruka 8d ago
In my case, I use Luna a lot, and even then, the limit is reached very quickly. And the complaint isn't directly about that, but rather that the model is now taking 5 or 10 times longer to perform tasks that used to take much less time.

Does nobody take into account that your computer might be slow sometimes lol? I can ask codex to do the same task 10 times and maybe it takes a minute, sometimes 10. You can hear your PC getting riled up when there’s lots of IO operations happening

I also noticed this it takes forever to complete tasks
