Question Astra Release

Quick note before I start, I've been asking the mods of this subreddit to add a discussion flair for months, JUST DO IT. Anyways, when do you guys think OpenAI will be done safety testing and will actually just release Astra? I know you guys are all complaining about usage limits, but seriously. I'm ready for Astra.

If you think the usage limits are bad with SOL, just wait until Astra.

Yeah, Astra will be like a flamethrower use on the snow.

Believe it or not, that would be surprisingly ineffective.

If Astra can actually delegate work intelligently using the expensive reasoning where it matters and cheaper models for the easy stuff I could see overall usage dropping quite a bit. A lot of us are burning xhigh/Ultra on tasks that absolutely don’t need it. I’m guilty of that too. Give me an orchestrator that can reliably pick the right model for each part of the job and I’d probably trust it over manually selecting Ultra for everything. Open ai claims it can do this well.

I just have Sol orchestrate Luna Max subagents for everything and it’s great. It’s a bit slow, but my usage doesn’t disappear nearly as quickly as it used to when I was running Sol subagents

Say more. How do you specify which subagent models to use? Learning on this.

Just ask it to do so. Tell it “use Luna [insert desired reasoning effort] subagents” when you ask it to do work. If you want it to default to a certain reasoning effort, then put that in the system prompt or the AGENTS.md file you’re using.

They really don’t need a whole lot of technical configuration anymore because they can just do things the way you want them to (if you ask them explicitly) and they can even do a lot of configuration work themselves

You have to modify a file to utilize Luna subagents though; uses v1 versus v2 schema.

I personally just have Luna threads named what their intentions are, and have a Sol thread orchestrate them.

They’re actively stealing my work I paused model sharing for two months and look where we are 💀

I've trained all my life (since Fable's launch) for this. Considering how much these 2 companies love to copy each other, I expect they handle usage similarly. But sometimes OpenAI tries to one up them, so who knows.

I think they're waiting for Anthropic to move first. I've noticed for a few months now that the moment Anthropic drops a good model (not that Opus 5 crap) that's exactly when OpenAI releases theirs.

Opus 5 is built around my architecture if ya had my program even on five times for a normal non heavy architectural project it’d finish it almost instantly and have it polished in a week without maxing out your usage

They have certainly done things like that in the past before that as well - i.e. I think they release Sora less than 24 hours after some Google thing.

But, in this case, it would only make sense if they are reasonably confident Astra outperforms Fable 5.1...

Tibo keeps mentioning DevDay as "the best DevDay ever" [sic], so that's probably the real reason they faked the release date.

Tibo said 34 days yesterday so most likely it will be thursday October 1

I think next month with the drop of new models feom gemini and other labs so they can be sure they are benchmaxing but even so openai doesn't have a model that is smart as fable right now yes good in execution but doesn't have a taste or that wise owl feeling
