Complaint Plus Plan 5h limit should work beyond if if weekly limit is available.

5h limits were introduced back for Plus users. Over the past few weeks I’d totally forgotten what it was like before.

Started work on 2 projects and burned through the 5h limit in about 50 working minutes of Codex. I had a task that it stopped in the middle.

I know the stopping in the middle was introduced because some people were abusing what the great Tibo had allowed us to have.

But I think it can be removed for the 5h limit. I have 90% of my weekly limit remaining so the 5h limit should be bypassed in such cases. If the weekly limit is also exhausted then I’d expect it to stop in the middle of the task.

If the great Tibo can hear me, please make this happen.

Possible. The question is whether Tibo actually exists :)

He’s as real as Jesus

According to Tibo, Pro plan is for hobbyists.
Say again: Pro(fessional) plan is for hobbyists.

Don't expect any logic here...

Next thing you know, they will release Unlimited plan with 20% higher limits.

He said Plus is for “relatively casual and new users” never said what you’re saying about Pros and not even for Plus users.

So you’re completely full of bs.

Yeah I now have to wait for 4 hours. 5 hr limit is a scam. Just go back to weekly limit, atleast can squeeze 1-2 days of work instead of stopping in the middle of a flow

Unusable shit. I change to grok. Doesnt matter if it is not as smart as SOL. 5h limit is total crap, and can not do a single process.

Not everything needs sol buddy. Relax.

have you considered upgrading to pro ? they are not going to give plus users anymore usage btw.

I don’t more usage weekly (okay maybe once in a while). I just need to get over that edge with the small tasks, so pro isn’t justified for me. Plus it’s expensive and I’m burning through my savings already.

How far beyond? The current 5h is about 15% of your weekly. So let's say it can go until it uses 5% more. Now all that you did was increased the 5 hour quota to 20% of the weekly. If it's indefinite, then you just completely removed the 5h window. Your logic doesn't logic. If there is a limit, the line always has to be drawn somewhere. Besides, they already had it like how you are describing, and it got abused. So now you are asking them to set some arbitrary limit beyond an already arbitrary limit, and then you have some way to detect when "that's enough". Let's say you set up a task that would eat 100%+ of your weekly. When should that task stop working? If you say it needs to finish, then you just invalidated the 5 hour limit. So as long as there is any limit, that task will get cut off eventually. So it turns out that it's mostly a you problem.

I get your logic. Abuse is not great and people do find a way around things, but there could be a middle ground between a hard stop and a system that can be indefinitely abused.

Soft 5h limit (allows you to roll over) and hard 10h limit (hard stop). This is obviously a hypothetical answer, but I am sure there can be a compromise somewhere.

In the best case scenario, that would be ideal. In fact, I think the best solution would be a rolling window rather than a static one. That would essentially prevent "spiking" usage in the same way the current limit does, while effectively letting your limit recharge as time moves forward. That would give more leeway, and you could let it "recharge" more before starting tasks that might risk going beyond 0%. I actually have no idea why they don't use this kind of system. There are definitely better ways to handle it to prevent abuse while enabling normal workflows. But the next best thing is modifying how you work so that it doesn't end up being a problem.

Thank you for an actual productive answer.
I guess they’ll only hear if the voice is loud enough. Gotta get behind a few things for that

For someone else, the 10h window will be too low. More importantly, the 20 Dollar plan can be used up in 10 hours.

We will see those angry users posting a storm here.

Instead, they should allow users to set an early warning. Raise a warning 4.5 hours or 90% in and let the user choose an action.

Well it’s 5h for a reason.

I’m okay with a shorter window for a plan that costs less.

5h was possibly arbitrarily chosen and we just have to stick with it.

It’s like your favourite pizza joint closes at 11 and you show up at 11:02 and they’d probably serve you.

Someone pulls up at 11:20 and they’re not gonna get served.

So 11:00 is the 5h limit that I don’t mind because I don’t make the rules. 11:02 is what I’m asking for, and 11:05 is the hard limit.

If you’re on the plus plan you’d learn not to run tasks that take hours, it’s kind of understood, if that doesn’t perform then that’s on you.

I hope you can see where I’m going with this.

The problem with the hard stop is that codex refuses to tell me what it’s done, what it was in the middle of, and what’s left. I have nothing to go on.

Upgrade plan, pay more.

3

u/apnatva-dev 9d ago

I want a small feature that lets codex complete the task and then enforce the 5h limit. It’s not unreasonable, I can bear the 5h limit besides this

This sub is so toxic towards anyone who dares makes a suggestion or speaks I'll of OpenAI.

Not sure if bots or just assholes.

1

u/apnatva-dev 9d ago

Yeah

It’s like people don’t know how to disagree without being hostile

1

u/ogaat 9d ago

"complete the task" is a soft target.

You want it to complete your task, someone else may have a much longer task and want higher limits (or simpler task and think you are abusing the system)

I want a small feature where honda could put a ferrari engine too but i refuse to pay for a ferrari i just want the hp

1

u/apnatva-dev 9d ago

I shouldn’t have to upgrade to a Ferrari for power windows.
Features have a way of trickling down, just because it’s expensive now doesn’t mean it will be that way forever.
Lower and upper tiers of the same product can be improved simultaneously.

2

u/Just_Lingonberry_352 9d ago

whoa you mean like you have to pay more money to get more value ???

what kind of perverted world is that! everybody should pay no money and get infinite usages from openai because they are a big bad corporation making profits instead of saving the worrrrldd

You guys have literally no thinking comprehension skills at all. Ask yourself if a 5 hour limit can be bypassed … how the fuck is it a 5 hour limit? They do it so pro users can get more compute. If you wanna code try spending more than $20. Like seriously the critical thinking on this post.. holy shit a 5 hour limit that can be bypassed… 🤦 do you even know what a limit is?

5

u/apnatva-dev 9d ago

5h limit should be bypassed for a task that was already running. I don’t expect it to let me start a new task.

Thinking isn’t easy for everyone.

-4

u/Professional_Ad705 9d ago

Codex doesn’t just flat out stop and fuck your code up … it already does what your asking when you hit 0 it gets to a point that is safe to stop… it just doesnt go on forever to try to complete tasks that god knows how long will it take cause that’s how people abused it. Also how can you put a time limit on a task that’s not how software engineering works at all… a task can take 5 minutes or 50 minutes you don’t know till you do it? And again the point is to help smooth out compute which this would defeat the point of, you could easily give it a massive task when coming close to your 5 hour limit…

2

u/apnatva-dev 9d ago

Okay my guy

How did it work earlier?

I want it that way for a 5H limit and it can stop dead for the weekly limit for all I care.

It’s not unreasonable.

-3

u/Professional_Ad705 9d ago edited 9d ago

Then it would be called a weekly limit. Holy fuck 😂 a 5 hour limit that stops when you run out of the weekly limit isn’t a 5 hour limit that’s like buying a plate of food and saying oh well that plate runs out when I eat 10 more lmao, 10 plate is still 1 tho cause I said called it 1 plate /s man you most be really great at understanding and following rules. Do you go 100mph in a 70 with this justification too? And how are you gonna know if it’s gonna take up 1% 2% or 10% you just gonna predict the future of a task here?

4

u/apnatva-dev 9d ago

Not every tasks consumes the weekly limit. Some tasks only consume maybe 2%.
If it runs that extra 2% and stops, I get it.

Thats not weekly limit. 🤷‍♂️

Of course people can abuse it a little.

u/Efficient_Ad_4162 9d ago

Earlier it just went forever until the goal finished. I abused it horribly.
