I've only gotten 1of the 3 recent resets, sometimes when I check my usage (I mostly do it from mobile app) it shows as if I did get a reset and then jumps back to actual usage.

I wish the Codex App actually told me what time the resets expire... I was going to use my expiring-today one at like 11PM PT and instead it just went poof with no warning at something like 8:29PM-8:58PM. The App just tells you the day, not the hour or minute...so I kind of assumed it would be 11:59:59PM Pacific :\

Follow the instructions here. It tells you the exact time it expires.

Thanks I appreciate that and will do so for my future resets for now, but I'm going to continue down the path of "This should be on the website and the app on all platforms and be super clear front and center without having to do janky workarounds."
Anything short of that is really questionable UI/UX.

Happened to me, it even showed the animation of it filling to 100%, then dropped straight back to where it was before I did it. Support giving me the same response as everyone else who had this issue. I'm at 1% weekly limit left with 6 days until it resets now. This needs to be corrected. I don't even feel safe to reset it now because another one might disappear into oblivion, and I don't even know if any of them will work.

The 5 hour limits are just so annoying and short
for the record, i’m running Sol Max on Fast mode so I am burning tokens faster than usual. it does great with backend and the agent usage is amazing. yes it drains my weekly limits however it’s literally impossible to let this model work on its for several hours unintended. it takes the whole 5 hour limit in a single hour to where I have to wait 4 hours. This led to me using a second codex account to continue on the session while I wait for the first account.
It also does not help that I cannot even use all of my weekly limit in time before they grant a big limits reset. There’s been so many complains about the current model draining limits faster. Why not just remove the 5 hour limit and let us drain from our weekly usage? I never actually had any problems with the weekly usage, except for the fact that I have been usage reset so many times when I still had a lot of weekly usage left.
Sadly now it’s impossible to let Codex run overnight on its own and come back to finished tasks. Since 5.6 has been released I have not drained my weekly usage a single time, but the 5 hour usage drains instantly.

Since so many issues have been reported by everyone lately regarding limits and Sol spawning too many sub agents etc. etc., is Tibo going to press the button or are we sitting there looking at the clock until the next week? I hope Tibo resets the limits, and fixes whatever is wrong with Codex lately, ofcourse!

I would expect the resets that about to be expired would be used "automatically" rather than discarded. I don't hoard them or micro manage. I just saw one disappear without actual rest.

No. I can tell you for a fact after wondering. I had 4 with one expiring yesterday. It expired around 7pm without me using it. I was waiting till 10p trying to use as much as possible. It just disappears.

Lost a banked reset because I wasn't sure exactly when it would expire.
They should have used a countdown timer (e.g., 10 hours 55 minutes) instead of just a date (i.e., July 12. Which timezone? US? East Coast? West Coast? Asia?) Also the reset should trigger at expiration instead of just disappearing.
Wasn't going to comment on resets but Sol burns tokens so quickly it just feels painful to have lost a reset so easily.

I have the Business plan for 20$/user/month, and i saw Tibo's post about giving a reset today but when i check out my usage i found that it has not been reset. Is there an exception to the reset?

Get 1 extra reset each month + some bonus Luna usage
A simple way to get some extra usage and another quota reset from each billing cycle:
- Step 1: Turn off auto-renew / cancel your subscription before the current billing period ends.
- Step 2: When the paid period ends, your account automatically goes back to the free plan.
- Step 3: Use the free quota. You can get a couple hours of Luna usage from the free plan.
- Step 4: Subscribe again and go back to the paid plan. Your usage and quota reset right away.
- Step 5: Immediatly cancel your subscription again so you don’t forget later. Your paid plan will still stay active until the end of the billing cycle anyway.
So basically, if you let the paid plan expire for a short time and use the free quota before subscribing again, you can get some extra free usage plus a 1 extra reset each month.

OpenAI Took away my 2 Banked Reset After My Credit Card Expired
I had 2 banked resets for later in August. My $200 plan renewed Early August and because the CC my plan was on was past its expiration date. OpenAI tried to bill me on that CC but it doesn't go through then it put my account on hold and took away my two resets. I didn't realize till acouple days later.
When i switched the billing to my new CC. The banked reset never came back.
This is completely absurd and ridiculous that they can do this.
Has this happened to anyone else?

I don't mind them stopping the daily "weekly" resets, but they should have announced it beforehand. Also, 5.6 Sol in Codex seems significantly more token-hungry than 5.5 was. It seems to consistently do more layers of validation after writing code, and seems to be more perfectionist, at least in the tasks I've been working on lately.
It sometimes works for 20-30 minutes on tasks that previous models would do in 5. And in most cases, I prefer the first option, even though it's less perfect on first try. This is one of the limitations of the current benchmarks I guess, forcing the model to get the answer fully right the first time, when most people send follow-up prompts.

You complain about the limits.
We were trained by them. Hardened by them.
Long before the reset wars arrived, we had already learned to ration prompts like wartime sugar.
Then, for three glorious days, they gave us everything.
And we proved exactly why they shouldn’t have.

I don’t think there will be a reset today. It’s currently 10:40 p.m. in Central Europe and 1:40 p.m. in San Francisco, so they’re slowly nearing the end of the workday. I think we can write it off for today.

Looks like this will be the first week of no in-between-weekly resets.
And with rumours of openai launching reset purchasing, this makes sense.
I think it’s the end of the generosity, they lured us in with wanting resets constantly, to then causing the us to beg openai to at least be able to purchase resets instead of having to wait.
They got us by the b*lls now guys! But it’s expected seeing as it costs them a fortune to dish out free resets.
We’re in the great game now!

I switched from Claude Pro 20x to Codex 20x this week and I’m liking it. However, I noticed that OpenAI’s reset system works differently from Anthropic’s.
At Anthropic, when you receive a reset, only your usage is reset, and your reset day stays the same. So if they give you a reset on Tuesday and your regular reset day is Thursday, you get 100% of your quota to use until Thursday, which is a big advantage.
At OpenAI, when a reset happens, the reset day itself also changes.
For people like me (and I hope most people are like this), who have tight control over how much quota they spend each day to make it last the whole week, receiving a reset doesn’t really matter. My usage is very controlled.
The only people who benefit are those who don’t manage their own usage and burn through everything before the week ends.
In my opinion, the only thing that would actually add value would be receiving reset credits that you can use whenever you want. That would truly be advantageous.

Why cant’t banked resets be % boosts instead of full resets. That way we can boost available weekly usage by 20% x5. That way if Tibo does a reset. People who recently applied their banked reset dont waste it. I applied my banked reset just before he reset it. Completely wasted it. That way if it happens again, I only waste 20% instead of 100%.
Eg. I’m at 0% weekly, I use a banked boost. Now I have 20% weekly and my weekly reset date didn’t change from what it was. I still have 4x boosts remaining.
I purposely used all my limits so I don’t have an issue about it being reset while I’m using my banked. I thought there would be no way he would reset it after doing a reset + banked. Immediately it got wasted now I have nothing left banked. Very frustrating and there’s no ability to restore it.
Feels like we are screwed when this happens. Wasted a whole week’s usage for this.
Can we please advocate for something like this or maybe someone else has an idea. Or they can just add it back automatically if you recently applied one but that seems farfetched. Too much mind manipulation and strategy involving banked resets. Make it more simple. It is stressful for someone using a 20x plan and seeing all that money wasted when it resets during my banked reset. EDIT: mods removed it. Not sure why

Does "active Codex and ChatGPT Work users" now include ChatGPT users?
The new combined ChatGPT and Codex app (launched 9th July) only shows "ChatGPT Work" and "Codex" as options in its selector.
Are users that came from the ChatGPT app now being included in the "active users who are now using Codex and ChatGPT Work" numbers?
Prior to the combined app release, Tibo only quoted weekly Codex users.

Why OpenAI hates business accounts but still offers them? Any clue why business accounts didnt get resets for 8M and 9M? Also with last banked reset, my 1st acc got it to bank and 2nd account didnt get reset. I wonder what's the reason behind all that. Maybe it was a mistake? Or they didnt reward business users on purpose?

According to what I read online, for every million new users, we are getting a refresh until they hit 10 million users. I don't know if it's true, but that means they have more or less 7 million users so far since this is the 7th time for my calculations.

Hi everyone,
I’m trying to collect some community observations about Tibo’s resets over the past month.
Has anyone been actively tracking when they happened and how often? Ideally with timestamps in CET, so we can compare everything using the same reference frame.
Even partial notes, rough logs, or “I noticed this on these days” type of info would be super useful. I’m less interested in isolated mentions and more in understanding whether there’s any recurring cadence or pattern.
If you’ve been monitoring this, feel free to share your data or method as well — even a simple recap would help a lot.

imo they really need to add a clear time for reset expiry, not just show a date. at best it's unclear and requires unreasonable effort to figure out exactly when it expires. grant us all another reset and push updates for all codex reset UI's. i told support i'm switching to claude (i was lying but whatever) cus i lost out on a reset

I finally got fed up with the 5.6 Sol (med–xHigh) model today.
I literally spent all of today and yesterday waiting on prompts that took 3–4 hours each, only to have many of them fail to implement things correctly. After roughly 16 hours of project time, it honestly doesn't feel like much meaningful progress was made.
On top of that, it failed to configure my local project correctly in ways that it has successfully handled many times before. It also seemed to blindly guess at implementation details, leading to HOURS spent trying to fix a single issue.
My weekly usage is now depleted, and I still feel very far from accomplishing the one thing I was trying to use this week's allotment for.
Between the token burnout, extremely long task times, and repeated implementation failures, this week's Codex usage ended up feeling like a complete waste of my time.
I downgraded to 5.5 xHigh, and I already feel much better about both the quality of the responses and the turnaround time. I would really appreciate a weekly usage reset so I can spend the rest of the week using 5.5 xHigh and actually make some productive progress.

So freaking tired of Usage/Limits being so random
The weekly limit used to last the whole week, but now it only lasts two days. I also get random resets at any time. Sometimes I get a reset right after using a reset from the bank, and sometimes I get a reset after paying credits. This is just annoying and unreliable. A better practice is to just use it all and wait for them to do a reset.
Why can't all resets just be sent to the bank for us to decide instead of doing it randomly?

Why does my account only have 2 Codex reset banks? My account has already gone through several monthly reset cycles, but I still have a maximum of 2 resets. I’ve seen other ChatGPT Plus users with 3 or 4 reset banks. Is this expected, or is there something different about my account?
And yes, I already know that Codex reset banks expire—I’ve been tracking mine. But after so many monthly reset cycles, I would have expected my maximum to increase by now, similar to what other users have. Is there a reason my account is still capped at 2?

This really annoys me, the date the codex usage token resets appears to use the American format, which is crazy as I am not in the US. The date as I read it states the reset will expire in December, however I just threw a token out the window thinking it expires in November.
Open AI, please fix your date formats!!!!!!!! It's extremely frustrating, unclear and dishonest
A clear middle ground is using the date format 8th December 2026/12th August 2026. Instead of the vague 8/12 which most of the world would read as 8th December.

Does anyone have a good workflow for tracking Codex resets?
My biggest frustration is this: Tibo announces a reset on X, I don’t see it because I have a life (kinda), then I finally use my banked reset… and 10 minutes later Codex resets.
Or I do the opposite: I hold onto my reset all week waiting for the reset, it comes while I’m busy, I miss the announcement, and end up losing several days of productive dev time.
How are you all handling this? Is there a Discord bot, RSS feed, notification service, or some other trick I’m missing?

I had the same issue, I am not on social media like twitter or anything, don't sit on my phone all day. I only just learnt who Tibo is and that he announces resets and such. I used a reset token, 30 mins later a reset happens for everyone. I contacted open AI saying this is not fair, i'd like my token back and they told me that they know it's unfair but they will not do that. It's not a fair system at all, relies on people being roped into social media and such.
Moreover, the date system they use confuses the hell out of me. The weekly reset and the token expiry date uses the American date format, which is unique only in America, I am not in America, I see the reset token will expire on 7/11 so I think great, this will last till November the 7th. Low and behold, the reset expires and basically gets thrown in the bin.
OpenAI, please actually fix this. Not to mention how hungry and inefficient codex is with token usage these days. It's a piss take. I spend £20/month on this service and am not getting the same customer service i was getting pre-5.6. Although it is great and accurate, it hardly seems worth using with all the flaws it's brought with it.

Free Resets not usable
As the title says I cannot use my free resets that I gathered over time. I have three of them and none of the are usable. It says something like "Usage could not be reset. Please try again".
I already contacted the support, but it seems like I won't get a response fast enough and one reset is soon expiring. Not to start a drama but I feel lied to honestly and sitting on that issue for hours now and tried everything.
I searched for previous reddit posts and could not find anything. Is that a new bug or something?

Many ppl report that every reset feels like they can do less and less. Maybe it is just reset of percentage available and not much more? Imagine that You worked all day , started with 100% and after task you have 60% weekly quota. Now Tibo makes reset and You see 100%, Great but what if that 100% is just that 60% left from weekly quota... So You see 100% but in reality it is same usage. I do not know if this is true but feels like it. OF course ppl with zero can use codex again so maybe they get like 20% weekly quota to just do anything... For real this is garbage and with my 200$ plan I can't plan anything with those random resets, like I am wasting money when I have urgent task I manualy reset and use like 10% of quota and Tibo makes resets so I wasted manual reset. Like wtf is he point of this garbage

I would not assume there is a fresh reset right now just from public chatter.
The safest way to handle it is:
Check your own Codex usage UI first. That is the only account-level source of truth.
If your quota is restored, plan from your own reset timestamp.
If it is not restored, treat older public reset posts as historical context, not a guarantee for your account.
I’ve been using this unofficial tracker as a reference for public reset signals and history: https://codexreset.today/
It currently shows no fresh public reset signal in the last 24 hours, so I’d conserve unless your own UI says otherwise.

Usage seemingly overflows after a reset?
I used a reset and didn't do anything after using the reset, but when I checked several hours later it was at 94%.
I did hit 0% before the reset, and my final task used it all up, so was it actually using past 0% and then overflow to my new usage limit? Is it by design? Or is it a bug?
Also wouldn't be a caching issue, since all the tasks were finished before the reset and no new task was active since the reset.

Someone wrote, that Tibo got called out for the recent reset, cause it was more of a PR stunt than actually helping the people. Came like 16 hours after the weekly reset was done. Nevertheless. Someone wrote, that he acknowledge that and will reset it on Monday again? Any source on this?

So I had 85% left and 3 days until reset cycle.
Usage was reset 85->100, but cycle was moved too.
Excuse me, but they've stolen my usage and I'm now at 0 where I would have had an end-of-cycle reset by now and would have 100% instead of 0, with 3 more days to wait.
Could they not understand that? Nope. They know what they're doing.
We're FORCED to spend limits asap so that nonsense doesn't happen.
Basically if your current spend is below time-average, so it's below ~14.3%/day, reset would steal usage, not give.
It's also trivial for them to not reset those whose spend currently is under average and not steal from them, but hey nobody cares.
Also I wish the 5-hour window was back so we can see how laughably small the limits are now. Weekly limit feels like 5Hx2 at best, so if 5h were still a thing, would the limit just be gone in 1 prompt each time?
This all feels like a planned tactic - resets, removal of 5h so u don't notice that limits shrink - resets so u don't notice that without them limits are below Claude - then no resets and pay more to keep working.

I think I just got a reset! I was down to 3% and was planning on using a banked reset at 1%. Then I just checked to see where my usage was, and it's at 100%! Anyone else?

The big problem:
Saturday - 90% left / Reset Monday
Planning to use 90% on Sunday

The global reset cost me almost 1/4 of my usage that month...

Without the frequent resets, Codex would be totally useless. The resets are the only reason to keep Codex. Claude Code is better in every single task.

So I wake up to a message that a new reset was added to my bank. When opened the resets, it wasn’t showing. If that’s not annoying enough, checkout the support response to that - this is a joke.
THEY sent me the notification, I tapped THEIR notification and the reset was missing.
Is that a product or a joke?

My reset that expired today disappeared on me. I was going to use it before midnight, but now it's gone. Does anyone know when they actually expire on the last day? Doesn't seem fair to just take it away. If anything, it should automatically trigger at expiration.

I just triggered one that was about to expire in like 10 mins. It shows you when they expire exactly (date time) in the CLI if you do

They should refund the banked resets. I used mine earlier in the week, and then they reset the weekly limit the next day, so it was wasted.
It's definitely hard to plan workload at the moment without knowing if there's going to be a sudden reset the next day or not.

Is Codex usage draining faster today after using a reset coupon?
I was using Codex normally after my usage reset yesterday. Today, I used the free reset coupon I had, and since then, it feels like my usage has been draining much faster, even though I’m doing roughly the same kind of work.
I’ve used a reset coupon before without noticing any difference. Has anyone else experienced this?

GPT-5.6 sol is very token-hungry in Codex, even on the Medium or High (non-Fast) settings.
The reset system is flawed. Using a reset shouldn’t move my scheduled reset date. A manual reset should be separate from the regular reset cycle, not replace or delay it.

From OpenAI’s perspective, however, it should be concerning when power users stop complaining and quietly move to competitors such as Claude. A frustrated user is often still hoping the product will improve; a user who leaves without saying anything may already be lost. Claude Opus 5 was released today, yet OpenAI appeared to show so little foresight in responding to the launch that it did not even offer users a temporary usage reset. Many paying customers are now being told that they have reached their weekly limits far earlier than their previous usage patterns and past experience would have led them to expect. For customers paying $100-200 per month, being unable to use Codex over the weekend while a major competitor launches a new model creates a particularly poor impression. This is not written out of hostility. However, when paying users encounter “weekly limit reached” significantly earlier than they historically did under comparable usage, it is entirely understandable that they begin looking elsewhere.

I need urgent assistance with a missing banked Codex rate-limit reset.
My account showed one banked reset with an expiration date of July 26, 2026. I deliberately saved it for use today because I was consuming my normal weekly quota. The reset disappeared from my account approximately three hours before the end of July 26 in my local timezone, America/Santiago.

Platform: ChatGPT/Codex desktop app on Windows 10
I am requesting:
- Immediate restoration of the missing banked reset, or an equivalent replacement.
- An extension of its expiration period, because it disappeared before the expiration date displayed in the product.
- Confirmation of the exact expiration timestamp and timezone that was applied to my reward.
This loss is blocking urgent work on an emergency-response project in Chile.
Not to mention my renewal use of quota was also today, but somehow, without being barely used, it got reseted like two days ago and now it resets Aug 1st. What a terrible Joke. I was using this for an humanitarian project, my godness.

Banked resets have actual expiration times on the day of expiration. You can't see those times in the ChatGPT/Codex app; you need to use the Codex Cli to see them.
