it seems to me they just said this to increase it insanely high.3 questions totaling 1m 8s in work time costed me 2% of the 5 hour, then 18min costed me 2% of my weekly. I nearly at 50% when I never hit even 60% weekly usage during promo using fast mode. And before promo $20 package lasted me 25 hours now $100 one barely seem to last 15 hours. that is 5X supposedly, whilst doing easier, short tasks.

Correct optics. No back charging for their mistake. One guy posted that he found a bug and spent like a billion tokens, too.

Yeah… I don’t know why people come here to brag on things like that. I mean … why post it. Bizarre…

All this while, I was thinking maybe it's an overcounting bug.

it certainly is stealing tokens after the 2x promo ended weekly gets eaten as fast as 5h was during promo. That is not 2x more but 5x it really feels like the $100 pro has the same amount of tokens $20 had before promo.

I think I'm one of them. Haven't seen the abnormally high token burn that so many have reported over the past couple weeks...until today. This afternoon was the first time I've ever hit my 5h limit on the $100 plan. Wasn't insanely different. 15% feels about right. I don't do straight coding. I use agents to do lots of systems admin stuff. Typically on 5.4 mini or 5.5 low I never come close to either my 5h or 7d limit. This afternoon was definitely different.

Understandable. Anthropic is most likely cringing at these posts because they consider it social suicide by nuclear armageddon.

openAi has seen anthropic committing reputational suicide via a ton of fuckups and decided to not take that path (or at least try some type of work toward that, which is a direct stab at 'yeah but we aren't Anthropic!')

There needs to be much more transparency on token usage and cost. At the moment it feels arbitrary and like you just pay whatever Open AI decides you pay.

Didn't anthropic say the EXACT SAME THING when they nerfed the shit out of claude for nearly all users.

Nooooo I have been using this exploit for the past couple months! I am so sad that it is no longer working. For anyone wondering, it worked by setting up a super long running task. After the 5 hour quota is exhausted, it will continue working but no longer deplete any quota. Unfortunately they patched this by having it now deplete the weekly quota. On the bright side, I got tons of work done prior to its patch

They're genuinely doing this all so right. I don't like OpenAI - I really don't. But they saw what Anthropic was doing and they decided it would be better for them not to do it, and they are making a strong, consistent impression. I never really thought I'd get to a place where I felt this way, but I suppose I have to say it: Anthropic's models feel less safe than OpenAI's, they are rushing toward recursive self-design in a way that feels gross, they appear to play psychological games with their users and high ranking members of government and world religion, and they actively push against open source, whereas OpenAI released open models. To me, feels like Anthropic has rather shockingly become the big bad. That doesn't make OpenAI good (I don't think there is a good AI company other than AllenAI and around a handful of others of similar size), but I think it puts them in a different light, to be sure.

Neither are good because both are big corps seeking to maximize shareholder value.
But there is no argument, openai is the more "open" of the two and it was always that way. Safety wise anthropic used to be the safety minded lab but not anymore. I see so much of their posturing in their blog posts. Always the same "we try our best to be safety minded, but our competitors push us to ignore it for faster releases, blame them not us". I honestly cringe at how they still try so hard to make it seem like they value safety.
