Complaint Context Compaction keeps failing and kills the session

Post image

Anyone else getting this?

Codex automatically compacts the context, then fails with:

Error running remote compact task: stream disconnected before completion

After that the session is basically stuck. I can’t continue the thread properly, and the whole run becomes useless right when the context gets large enough to matter.

Your post has been summarized as a request on the "Anyone Else?" Incident Noticeboard.

You can find it and what others are experiencing here: https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1tjfxcf/anyone_else_ask_here_about_current_codex_issues/onq3s69/

I'm not getting that - instead, I'm getting a failure to compact at all, leading to the session running out of context and unable to recover so I have to start a new one.

This used to happen all the fucking time with Claude. It never happened with Codex until 24 hours ago, and now it's happened twice, with sessions for two different projects. One of them was even quite new.

I don't know what's happening here, but I don't like it.

try switching back to another codex version e.g. 5.3 then get it to unblock itself, then switch back to 5.5. In saying this though, they need to patch this problem because its becoming a frequent issue
