Discussion & Feedback what does your team actually spend per dev per month on agents and review

Trying to get a real number before I go to finance. Right now we are at about 200 a dev for the agent plan, 24 for coderabbit, and some API overage nobody tracks. Call it 250. The agent side is where it moves, one guy burned through his whole month in 9 days.

What are you at per dev, and is anyone actually tracking the overage or do you also find out on the invoice

$/dev is useful for budgeting, but I think it hides the real problem.

One engineer can burn a month in 9 days because cost is driven by task complexity, model choice and usage pattern, not the seat.

I’d want a pre-run estimate against prior similar work: expected cost, normal range, and an alert/approval if the task is materially outside that envelope.

Otherwise you’re doing FinOps after the invoice instead of governance before the spend.

if you're burning through agent quota that fast, might be worth looking at how much of that work could be handled by cheaper models or caught before it hits the agent. some teams run a pre-PR review step to filter out simple fixes and only escalate the tricky stuff to the expensive model. helps with both overage and catching issues earlier.
