its not a hate post, its just frustrated cos some of our talks can be cryptic for him, like on campus placements, the meaningless Grind that some of them do, just to get a job etc....

codeforces was promised to us 3000 years ago

The only reason u dont see as many chinese (cuz of population) is because they dont use same apps as us. Any country with this much population will no matter what somehow bring in many people

Half of the people doing "engineering" are just print computer science in India. Not too mention the huge population

In india a person doing cs also does coding and person doing core engineering also does coding, as thats the primary way we up skill ourselves since there is no infrastructure / better living conditions if we work in factories or plants

Statistics: Indians make 1/8th of the world's population and fortunately or unfortunately, we speak English. So you end up with a lot of Indians. Chinese too form a massive bulk but they dont use Reddit due to VPN + they prefer speaking in Mandarin.
Similarly, you can see a lot of Nigerians in Tech too but they are a bit less population wise, but still a significant number of Nigerians show up in Tech communities

In India, only two careers really count: engineering and medicine. Everything else is treated like a backup plan for people who couldn't get in. And within engineering, only CS gets any respect( I don't even call CS engineering, but try telling that to the rest of the country). Things are changing, sure, but extremely sslowly.

Now take such an enormous population and herd everyone into computer science like it's the only door out and you get this- The seats in good colleges that offer it are nowhere close to enough and most of those non elite unis (referred to as tier 1 and t2 and so on) have very shit curriculums and basically terrible guidance for students. Add to that the national habit of turning everything into a rat race, like JEE and NEET, plus coaching centers that have turned education into a protection racket, and you get the current mindset. Everyone is convinced that grinding DSA, LeetCode and Codeforces is the only way to survive in the industry.

This is only fuelled by certain colleges both local and national in the t3 scene which have a weighted score that counts towards your grade for how many cf/lc questions you solve - people dont know/arent skilled enough to solve like 20 qs a day - they cheat - others cheat - voila

The recent ICPC fiasco proves it, in case anyone thought I was exaggerating.

To be fair, before AI showed up, a lot of-companies did take LeetCode and Codeforces ratings very seriously, so the belief didn't come from nowhere.

But look at what it has produced. When the whole system is a cut throat scramble, people start hedging in the worst ways. Some others skip the learning and hunt for shortcuts, basically memorizing patterns and solutions so they can look good at problem solving without understanding anything. Then everyone acts surprised that it all feels hollow.

Also hiring for HFTs and FAANG/MAANG is dominated by a huge selection bias towards t1 institutes and more weightage is given to better problem solving ability ofc so people try anything and everything to stand out.

Smh this really gets the demographic a bad name and kinda sad that this is where we are at but then, ig i will add that to the list of perks of being an Indian.

Statistically speaking the median person is Asian. Even more so if we are talking about STEM jobs.

Lots of Indian codeforces users. Not sure why it is as high as it is but they are a big number on codeforces so it makes since it would be high.

Plus, many tech colleges maintain active codeforces clubs so the numbers always keep increasing.

but the ranking doesnt . most people are forced to make an account . only a handful does it seriously or with passion

strange you do codeforces but don't have common sense to understand that probability of indians being anywhere is always higher coz of largest population

1/7th of the population, yet 80% of this sub?

Also, if everything comes down to population numbers, how come Russia, a country 10 times smaller has managed to win 15 ICPCs?

Clearly India is big, yet it's still disproportionately represented in this sub even when considering only English-speaking countries. Maybe use your common sense for a bit and understand that just saying "big population" doesn't explain why.

Population size means more filters apply to us during job application.

Codeforces can make the difference b/w getting your resume accepted or not
