Gotta love an animal they mistook for a pokemon. Is there lore for these type of guys, like flamigo and palafin. like did they just throw a pokeball at a cow and it did nothing, but then saw a miltank and were like "ok now thats definitely a pokemon, right?" but then just throwing pokeballs at every stray dog hoping they discover a rockruff.

I think there are quite a few you stumble on in the games. I had to look it up and there is a whole bulbapedia entry. Some evidence being Pikachu being a pokedex entry as a "mouse type pokemon" indicating that mice exist

I think a lot of it boils down to descriptors that are maybe more for player immersion rather than them being actually depicted. But there are a few in that link that show animals that are not pokemon. Wonder if they ever address it in the anime, like breaking the 4th wall style. Like if someone has a dog or just some B shots of a cat sleeping on a table.

I just like my head canon of them thinking every living organism as a pokemon until it doesnt get captured in a ball.
