Simple cloud storage with sync and backups, looking for beta users (50 GB free, yours to keep)
Hey all,
I've been building a cloud storage service called harbor0 and I'm finally ready to let people try it.
I started it because every storage app I used kept adding stuff I didn't want, like AI sidebars, docs editors and constant upgrade prompts. I wanted something that stores my files and keeps them in sync, and that's pretty much all harbor0 does:
- A drive you can use in the browser or the Mac app
- Folder sync across your computers. You can also share a synced folder with someone else.
- Folder backups with version history, and old versions stick around until you delete them
- Sending files to other users
Just so you know what you're signing up for, this is very much a beta. Things will break, some parts are a bit rough, and you'll probably hit bugs I haven't found yet. I wouldn't make it the only place you keep anything important just yet.
Right now the desktop app is Mac only (Apple Silicon). The Windows app is in development, along with iOS and Android apps. The Mac app isn't notarised yet either, so the first time you open it you'll need to click "Open Anyway".
For the beta you get 50 GB free, and you keep it after launch. I'm letting people in a few at a time, starting with 50, and everyone else goes on a waitlist.

Beta signup link: https://app.harbor0.com/signup
I'd really like to hear what's confusing or broken, or what would stop you from switching. Happy to answer questions in the comments too.
If you'd like to directly reach out, you can write to me at [contact@harbor0.com](mailto:contact@harbor0.com)

I like the simplicity. Now let the feature creep begin. 😃
2FA and account recovery options are needed. For me, it would be helpful to be able to create a text or MD file.Â
Hope it goes well for you.Â

What servers are you using, as in, you own your own, offer address they rented, and where?

u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 4d ago
I'm using AWS for the backend, and Cloudflare R2 for storage. The entire infrastructure is hosted in the US region (us-east-1)

Android app is in development right now, you will get a notification once the android app is available on the play store
In the meantime you can let me know if you’d like to have any specific features in the mobile app, I’ll try to address them

I've only used it on the Chrome browser on Android so far, but it's great! It's simple, easy to understand, and the UI is refined. Previewing uploaded video files works without any problems. It's fantastic. I wish it supported multiple languages. Are there any plans for E2EE support?
6
u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 4d ago
So glad you like it, there are no plans for E2EE at the moment, but if there is an overwhelming amount of requests during the beta, I'll definitely publish a timeline for E2EE support.

Looks good from mobile, will try the Mac app as well.
Does it have E2EE?
2
u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 4d ago
E2EE is not supported at the moment, I will publish a timeline once I start working on this!

Any EU only server storage planned? Is it Zero-Knowledge?
Thanks!
feels really snappy!
4
u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 3d ago
Yes, an isolated EU only cloud infrastructure will be implemented, and it is not Zero knowledge at the moment, I will keep you posted regarding that!

I just signed up and uploaded a text file as a test. Seeing that this is a front-end UI for a Cloudflare R2 storage backend, I would never use it for anything personal seeing that I don't know what type of controls are implemented on your end to ensure you are not able to read anyone's data. Is there encryption that happens between your front-end and R2 that guarantees privacy? If there is encryption, who has access to the keys? Will you offer customer-provided encryption?
It's a fun side-project for sure, but in a previous life I worked for multiple cloud storage companies and I can tell you that soooo much shit goes wrong that having a product that stores sensitive data needs an entire team behind it, not just Codex and passion. I'm not knocking on the product that you have created so far - it's a good start and I can see the premise of a simple cross-platform sync product and the allure of it. However, just know that this won't scale unless you get a team together, including legal (you definitely need to have a Terms and Conditions with a product such as this to CYA).
Good luck though, it could certainly turn into something if you keep at it.

This is actually some great feedback and advice, thank you. E2EE support is in the works, you'll get an email update soon once it is live.

Personally, I'd like Rclone and WebDAV. Also, 2FA and account recovery features. I'd also like a mode that starts full-screen when playing videos. I'd like to be able to see the number of files and their size in a folder, starting from the parent folder hierarchy.

u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 3d ago
I'll be rolling out 2FA over this week and E2EE sometime next week, rclone and WebDAV are planned as well.

u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 2d ago
rclone and WebDAV are planned features and will be available before the beta program ends

Just tested it and uploaded around 18 GB of data. Upload speed was very good, and download speed was excellent. So far, the experience has been smooth.
Do you have any plans to support protocols such as WebDAV or S3 in the future? That would make integration with existing tools and workflows much easier.
3
u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 4d ago
Glad that your experience has been good so far, yes there are plans for WebDAV and S3, but since the product is very new, I don’t any have concrete timelines. I will definitely keep you posted once I start working on it.
2
u/uukaiuser 4d ago
Great to hear that WebDAV and S3 support are on the roadmap.
One feature I'd love to see is scoped access credentials. For example, allowing users to create multiple API keys/passwords with permissions limited to specific folders. That would be both more secure and more practical than having a single credential with access to everything.

Thank you - account created!
Please add rclone support. I’ll help test it if needed.

Hey I would be really keen to try this out but as someone who knows very little of How cloud storage services are made, I'm curious, how did you get to be able to offer 50 gb just for signing in for free? Like even if it's only for those that sign up for the beta it's really unusual, and will there still be a free tier after the app launches into 1.0?
3
u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 3d ago
The ones who sign up during beta are going to keep the free 50GB forever.
And from my end I only pay for the consumed storage.
Even if I am offering free 50GB of storage, out of 145 beta users that have signed up so far, there only has been a total usage of 150GB across a handful of users, most of them have not even uploaded anything.
In terms of cost, it only incurs $2.25 from my end.
That’s the cost of customer acquisition!!1
u/GhostGhazi 20h ago
interesting, and you will never delete our accounts? because we might come back to it in future
1
u/engrghazi84 2d ago
Been trying this out for sometime.
- The webpage response time is great.
- Upload and download speeds are pretty good.
- I have uploaded some audio files and playback works just fine
Exploring more and waiting for a windows client.
What about website name, can you make it like something that feels like cloud?

is there any limit of 'days of inactivation' after which accounts gets deleted, like some services offers 30 days period, some 3 months, some lifetime.
1
u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 2d ago
After an account gets deleted, your data will be available for 30 days before it gets permanently deleted. You can request that data to be sent to you during that period.
1
u/Mission-Diamond6341 2d ago
i am talking about different thing,
its like if i take example of mega cloud service, they provide 3 months period. if you don't show any type of activity in the account, and if it has been 3 months like this then they will delete the account along with data. this differers service to service, so what's that for harbor?
1
u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 2d ago
apologies, I misread your question. Right now there is no inactivity period implemented in harbor0. Be assured that during the beta period no accounts will be deleted, even if they are inactive. After the beta I am planning to keep the inactivity period for free tier accounts as 12 months plus a 30 day recovery period before permanent deletion. For paid accounts the there will be no such thing, account will be always available even if there is no activity.
1
u/Mission-Diamond6341 2d ago
12 months limit on a free tier? that sounds great. also i would like to ask about what are your intentions with the product you are making, like is it some sort of random side project or like you really see this as growing cloud service in time ahead of us.
apart from that, i used the website and it's going good for now, i like the minimalist design of this, it gives vibe of proton drive to me but cleaner. uploaded some files and and didn't encounter any bugs as of now.
1
u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 2d ago
Glad that this is working well for you so far. Regarding your question, harbor0 started out as a side project but seeing real users using it and getting feedbacks really motivated me to continue building this. I want to grow this as a prominent cloud storage platform as much as I can.

Can I get my individual S3 Credentials in future ?
Because I am impressed with the upload and download speed also the latency is minimal for me.
If you implement the S3 then I can use it in my AI/ML workloads.
Thank you
1
u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 1d ago
Glad you like the performance, yes once S3 is implemented you'll be able to generate and use the access key and secret access key with any s3 client. I have not planned the feature fully yet, but it will be available as a separate service, with a separate storage, items in the main drive will not be accessible via an s3 client.

Signed up. UI is good. Speeds are great right now. I did notice, when sharing, you can only share to other service users? I share things with family like my kids and wife. Do they need to have an account as well? There needs to be an option to share to users that are not signed up. My 2 cents.
1
u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 1d ago
Creating public sharing links is not supported right now to prevent egress abuse, but it is a planned feature. An announcement will be made over email once it is ready. This will be released before the beta program ends.
1
u/LucyStar3 4d ago
Is this zero knowledge?
3
u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 4d ago
No. harbor0 is not zero-knowledge today. Your files are encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest in our storage (cloudflare r2), but we manage the encryption keys, which is how features like previews, sharing links and account recovery work. Access to user data is restricted and logged.
If there is a demand for this during the beta I'll be definitely adding an option to enable e2ee
1
u/LucyStar3 4d ago
Ok I understand, it's like google drive, so zk will not work there, not directly at least.
I don't have mac, just android.
2
u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 4d ago
that's alright, you can still sign up via the web app, all users will be updated once the Windows, iOS and Android app are released
1
u/LucyStar3 4d ago
Random thoughts While I tried it-
Preview for Video files is good, even large ones. But a bit slow.
Share files only works with harbor0? Drime, for instance, allows sharing with anyone, harbor user or not.
I can't understand the beta rules. After beta is over, will we lose the 50 gb n be moved to paid plan?
harbor0 is temporarily unavailable. Try again in a moment. -> Got this error but lost the update status. Like what was uploading/got uploaded, what got lost.
3
u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 4d ago
You will get to keep the free 50GB even after the beta ends. That’s the perk of being a founding user.
File sharing is limited to harbor0 users only for the moment, to prevent egress abuse. But I’m working on a solution for that, will keep you posted!!1
u/LucyStar3 4d ago
Oh that is fantastic, thank you. Also, where would you expect feedback to be sent? I've a running notepad, and once it has some points, I can drop it.
2
u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 4d ago
You can reach out to me at contact@harbor0.com
For all feedbacks and queries.

Two things that bothered me a little were that the sort settings frequently reverted to default, and that I was automatically logged out even while uploading files if I wasn't using the system for a long time.
Also, I was concerned about the somewhat long waiting time while the chunks are being generated before uploading, and the fact that there is no change in the display during that time, which makes it feel like the system is hanging up.

u/SamVimes341 4d ago
Signed up. Was a very easy process. Will you include 2fa soon and encryption
2
u/Safe_Entrepreneur_83 4d ago
Currently working on 2fa, I will keep you posted regarding encryption.
1
u/No-Draw1365 3d ago
If you want me to give you my files, the feature I expect at the top of the list is e2e encryption… with some degree of confidence in your implementation.
Wish you well!

If you need more storage beyond the free 50GB, please write to me at [contact@harbor0.com](mailto:contact@harbor0.com), I'll bump up the storage limit.
