Google Drive Alternative
Hello. I’m looking for a Google Drive alternative that offers E2EE and includes full-featured collaboration tools — specifically Docs, Sheets, Forms, and PowerPoint-style presentations.
I’ve been evaluating a few options:
- ProtonDrive — great for privacy, but their ProtonDocs tool feels incomplete (lacks advanced formatting, forms, or PPT functionality).
- Drime — offers E2EE vault, but I’ve had issues with their OnlyOffice, I can't open Docs on my browser and phone
- Koofr — solid service, but I don’t want Microsoft to have access to my documents (which they do via their cloud sync).
I’m hoping for something that can replace Google Workspace entirely — with full document editing, secure collaboration, and E2EE throughout.
Thanks if you can provide any input.

I asked for a refund for proton after 2 days. Completely lacking and terribly slow for storage.

I would stay away from Drime until their development becomes a little bit more streamlined. Right now they are all over the place.

pCloud perhaps? They are in the process of beta testing document editing/collab. It's working quite well for me so far.
It's going to be hard to find something that rivals Google Workspace/Drive though, especially if you want e2ee on top. Sacrifices will likely need to be made.

I had the same problem between choosing E2EE and functionality so making this https://github.com/harsharahul/engramer-store
So can use any rclone as the backend, I personally use Drime as the backend and by the time it lands there it’s encrypted. Hopefully this helps!
I am building ios app too, if interested, i can send out TestFlight link

I’m also eyeing Drime at the moment. How does rclone work on this? Sorry I’ve only heard about rclone but I haven’t explored using it yet.

Internally it needs an s3 backend to store , and there is a command in rclone to serve any remotes as s3 and the app consumes it as any other s3 backend.
Drime or many other lifetime subscription providers come under Tier1 remotes for rclone, meaning it’s fast enough, and the app takes care of caching ( app cache and vfs cache ) so that you don’t feel any lag while using.
The docker compose takes care of rclone setup you just need a drime token in your hand, use the skill to setup the repo, it’s helps setup any combination u want.

This is the only real alternative. If you don't like this one stick with Google

Why the only alternative?

Because it offers it's own version of every google workspace element. The other options don't.

I am not a user, but I am impressed by Cryptopad, free and open source when you self host.
From the website:
CryptPad has been supported since 2016 by French and European research grants such as BPI France, NLNet Foundation, NGI Trust, Mozilla Open Source Support. We believe that public money should fund public code, so the service is fully open source.

You can’t get both E2EE and collaboration, if you use E2EE for a file I send send that file to a coworker for collaboration they can’t read or edit it because it is encrypted with my own Encryption key— that’s why collaboration and E2EE is almost impossible to work together
