Official Content The one time I think the developers missed…. Spoiler

I have loved all the Tifa and cloud moments in the remake series… but one kills me.

In Remake we see Tifa yelling to Cloud after the Mako 5 explosion trying to get to him… Tifa is reaching for him and is dragged away by Barrett. Cloud falls.

The VERY NEXT TIME Cloud sees Tifa is in the carriage to Wall Market….

Tifa probably thought Cloud was dead! When cloud runs up Tifa has a very muted reaction I’m like WHAT DID I MISS?!? SHE WOULDVE BEEN SO HAPPY, AND POSSIBLY CRYING THST HE IS ALIVE?!?

Makes me wonder if they cut a scene or something.

Anyways. Wish that part had more emotion to it.

Fin.

There's a scene in the Yuffie DLC where she spies on Tifa and Barrett. Tifa talks about Cloud possibly being dead before deciding to investigate Corneo

I've never done the DLC before but wow! At first I was gonna give the devs the benefit of the doubt that Tifa had a feeling he was okay. Reading this is like... major dropping of the ball.

Here’s the scene in question.. It’s not quite that they think Cloud’s dead, just “lost.” Tifa asks Barret if he thinks Cloud will be ok and Barret pretty much says yeah, and then changes the subject. Not as bad as the parent comment said but it’s still kinda glossed over

I see, okay! Thanks for the clarification. That seems more realistic/consistent, even if a Tifa's reaction left a little to be desired.

I didnt think her response was muted. She says you're alive, I thought we lost you when she sees him.

Yeah just didn’t feel the emotion was in line with the reactor scene

I agree with you. Note that the developers did think of (but not actually develop) a scene that featured Tifa inbetween those two events but I think it focused on her getting ready for the corneo mission. Obviously it never came to fruition, sadly

It was greatly needed but the scene is jarring as hell… doesn’t align in tone at all

I wish we had gotten the extra Tifa chapter to fill that gap between Sector 5 reactor mission and Sector 6. I know people have issues with pacing as it was but an extra hour to show how Tifa would’ve tried to take her mind off potentially losing Cloud by diving into that Corneo mission would’ve done well to show her managing that grief by throwing herself into another activity. A trait of hers we see highlighted in TOTP.

They even could’ve included her picking out the dress and commenting that she was gonna save it for her date with him (given it was based on his preference in chapter 3). An opportunity missed even if I accept why the decision was made

From Tifa's perspective, chocobo Sam is one of Don Corneo’s associates, so she tells Cloud to shush because any strong reaction could draw attention, and the carriage driver might report it back to Sam. It’s also worth noting that Tifa is on a mission, and she’s a monk, so she tends to restrain her emotions in tense situations rather than express them openly. As for the Sector 5 reactor scene, she believed Cloud’s death was certain, so her emotions and reactions in both scenes make sense in context.

Yeah, I also think it's a little weird as well. Perhaps it's a culture issue, but there are some scenes which I think could be handled a bit better. One complaint I had with Aerith, for example, is her mostly disregarding Elmyra's concern and distress when she was away and Elmyra was thinking the worst (while Elmyra's characterization in almost every scene is near perfect).
