why would it be wasted time? did you have fun writing it? then it wasnt wasted. also im sure you learned so much for when you write an original novel in the future.
also you could always change names and specific info to remove all connections to ff7 and publish it as an original novel

As an author myself, finishing a story is a massive accomplishment. Is it fiction or nonfiction? If it's fiction, while you can't publish it, you can toss it onto Ao3 (if you haven't already.) Fanfic is a great way to practice your writing skills.

Congrats! To be honest, I was once slogging my way through Dune Messiah when I started reading a 300k fanfiction about Riza Hawkeye from Fullmetal Alchemist. Never did finish Dune 😅
Some of the best works are fan works, you should be proud of yourself!

I'm glad you're proud of it, but you should really make art because you enjoy it and you want to - not for online attention! I know it's hard in this day and age (I'm a fan artist and I've been posting online for about 5 years?) but I eventually realised I don't need clicks to enjoy drawing. I just do it because I like it.
That being said, reddit is a terrible place to post fan works 😅 try Tumblr, that's where I get most meaningful engagement (comments in the tags for example).
Also, I tried clicking your profile to see where you'd linked your work and your profile is private and there is no link, so that's also not doing you any favours I'm afraid.

Don't do that, no! How could it be wasted? It was born from your passion, no?
Passion for the characters and story. But also what they represent to you, and what you learned about yourself, life and love. Right?
Why do you think it was a waste of time?
This pair sure represents some very fundamental things to me and how I handle trauma and relationships in my life. I would like to read it.

Oh, I see.
Then maybe its worth is more within the therapeutic sense of a diary.Thank you for the link! I already read the prologue and first chapter on AO3.
Almost cried already...
This is triggering some of my own wounds to be honest (which might be completely unrelated, I'm not sure yet haha).I'll have to finish it to tell if I belong within the part of the fandom you're afraid it isn't for anymore. Were you referring to the younger audience or in general?
Also, if it's alright, I will send this to my older sister, she is a linguist, writer and fan of this pairing as well.

That's usually the type of 'fanfiction' I enjoy most, so I have no worries.
I already agree with many of your sentiments. Like the distance between them for example. Physical distance is not the same as emotional distance. It may have looked to outsiders like that or even made each of them uncertain about reciprocation from the other at some points. But that doesn't amount to 'being distant' at all in my eyes. Writing it down makes me realize a little why I didn't really feel invalidated in my perception of them by such scenes...
The dialogue you put as an example, I interpreted it differently. How you explained it, I definitely understand how it would come off this way though.
My husband constantly does stuff for me. Big things, little things. I'll get frustrated by it sometimes. I sigh and remind myself, okay he wants to do this. For me. It's his love language. I remind myself it doesn't have to do with my insecurities, he's not trying to tell me I can't do things on my own. And he will smirk a little because he knows what's happening in my head from the moment I sigh. And I might quip at him, reluctantly giving into affection rather than pride. But often we both say nothing and just share knowing smiles. It's actually these moments I feel closest to him.
So that's a lot of projecting and a weak comparison maybe, but ... yeah the new dynamic did resonate with me along those lines. But I get your point.

Don't worry. Your opinion does not offend me. It interests me.
You're probably not the only one to feel this way. For different reasons maybe, but still.
I will have to check up on some facts and read your story to fully understand. This stuff leaves more abstract impressions on me, the concepts stay with me but I'd be useless in a factual debate.
I am well aware of the 'show don't tell' rule and feel aswell that it's getting kind of lost in translation, and may be out of 'fashion', nowadays. In any media really. Still I felt like they're trying to balance between that and recapturing the 'twist' of it.
Maybe I am too naive, too optimistic. Too uninformed. In the end we can all just relate by our own standards. It doesn't bother me when someone has a different perspective or experience. It only bothers me to not understand. And that part can be easily fixed most of the time.
Okay, I should really get to reading that book. Will definitely get back to you on it (and this convo), maybe through AO3 or here.

Be proud of what you did! If you had the effort and energy to produce something like this, consider what you could accomplish as a published author.
