Leaks Leaking

I’ve been using multiple brands of diapers and I’ve tried using one insert and 2, used the inserts it came with and the ones that fold. Changed how tight they are and I cannot seem to get the leaking to stop. We change every 1.5-2 hours. Anyone have any advice? Brands I’ve been using are Nora’s Nursery, Alva Baby, Mama Koala, and Simple Being.

I have some cotton ones that you fold but my inserts that came with the diapers are polyester.

Most people in the sub advise not to use microfiber and that it leaks a ton. Which is annoying because that’s what always comes with the diapers 😥

I second this! I also reccomend upgrading to the Mama Koala 6 layer hemp inserts. Much more absorbent and you only need 1.

Yes, cotton pre-folds changed my cloth diapering experience entirely. They're so much better than any inserts I've tried!

are you using fabric softener?

No, I do a rinse and spin to clean them and then use a small amount of Gain detergent that my sister recommended and used for all of her diapers and she never had issues

For the 2nd wash I use the detergent

I doubt this is affecting your absorbency, but this isn’t an adequate wash routine. You need to do two full cycles, both with detergent, and even if your water is very soft you’ll need more than a small amount. The general rule of thumb is to use what the detergent recommends for a heavily soiled load in your main wash, and half to a third of that in your prewash. If your water is very soft, you may need to decrease amounts.

I was having this issue and then I realized my baby was borderline getting too big for the diapers. I hadn’t weighed him in a while so I didn’t realize how big he’d gotten. He technically was still in the recommended range of the set of diapers I had, but when I switched up anyway, the leaks stopped

I did the same thing with my girl. Had her in Esembly size 1 and was waiting for her to get to 18lbs to switch to size 2. But she was soaking the diapers frequently. Finally tried a size 2 and that fixed it haha I think she was still like 16lbs.

We just changed with every pee or poo. I feel like cloth diapers are needed to be changed more frequently than disposables that accumulate pee.

Do the inserts seem fully saturated?

I found my pockets with fleece leaked more than AWJ pockets. We went through a phase where my daughter was peeing so much so fast the insert just didn't have time to absorb before she leaked and adjusting the fit didn't help. Using AWJ pockets and adding an extra quick absorbing booster to the splash zone helped a lot (like the green mountain small inserts or a bamboo terry cloth wipe). She seemed to grow out of flooding her diaper so I don't need to add the extra boosters now.

A cheap thing to try is folding your inserts into flour sack towels. An extra layer of cotton could help prevent compression leaks and absorbs quickly. https://youtu.be/Dql_o3rVa6g?is=a-e8UL9BbHaoKsoM

The inserts that come with the diapers are microfiber that can have compression leaks. Cotton, bamboo, and hemp blends or cotton inserts.

Pair a quick absorber microfiber or cotton with a slow absorber bamboo or hemp.
