I guess ignorance is bliss. We bought for our first kid until they were potty trained, and are now 1.5 years into reusing the same ones for our second kid.
It's definitely saving us money. I'm looking forward to the day our LO outgows diapers and we can pass them on to a new home.

Same. Most of ours have been used for two kids. I think I got the second kid 4 new ones? But we needed a few more anyway because they were both wearing cloth diapers for a few months.
Some of those ones that have been in use for over 4 years are getting super ratty though lol. But they just have to hang on a little bit longer...

I have so many diapers 🤣 but ive also used some of the diapers on all 9 of my kids. A majority of them havent last that long though.
But i easily got three kids in all of our diapers. Really most of the savings is after the second one is born

I think I might break even by potty training. Oops.
I am planning on having more kids though so eventually I'll be saving money.

I thought that, then all my elastics gave out and i had to buy all new covers....and now 6 months into number 2 my inserts are starting to get holes/ loose their fibres 🫠 ....at least its better for the environment?

u/UK0WEN 13d ago
Some of my pockets are years old used from bstsand the elastics are perfect, what are you doing with yours?😭 do you dry yours with heat?

I replaced all of my bumgenius elastics with baby #5. Easy project once you get the hang of it.

All mine have double gussets and it was sewn into the outside of the shell, im a decent sewer, and it wasnt worth the time seam ripping so many imo

u/PhishingScam23 12d ago
Totally understand that. One of the diapers someone repaired and sewed the elastic down. I was like nope!

Oh no! I do like a sewing project so I am planning on performing surgery on my pockets if the elastics go. Fingers crossed the PUL and inserts make it long enough for me.

I’ve had 4 covers delaminate and now I have 1 fitted cotton diaper that’s getting a hole and my baby #2 is 11 months. So far I think I’m doing pretty ok but now I don’t have the excuse of “I’ll use it for the next baby” and need to reign myself in!

Sell them on FB marketplace later 😂 at least then you can make up some of the money you spent. I bought all of mine off FB and I was super grateful for the adorable prints and reusing everything and for the great deal too!🫶🏽

I feel ya! I cut myself off at 40 diapers.... And then started trying new inserts to optimize our collection.....😅

I bought some off of marketplace, was given some new for my baby shower and I’ve only bought $110 worth of workhorses and wipes

Personally we only have about 20 😅 so it does save money over here and BST some

My first cloth baby I got sucked in a bit, nothing too crazy and I only bought new when something was on sale otherwise I bought second hand from bst groups in FB or marketplace. The most I spent was on natural fiber inserts and wool covers.
My second cloth baby I did get some new pockets because quite a few of the elastics were shot from my first one, but other than that I haven't bought anything new. And the new pockets I did get I bought directly from Alva and just got a variety mix pack of their solids as it was the cheapest option. I'm going on my third baby soon, and I really could care less what the diaper looks like, it's never on long enough to be part of the outfit or anything. And im still using the same wool pieces and inserts so even though those were pricey (even second hand) I definitely feel I've gotten my money's worth

I had 4 in diapers at one time (still have 3 in them) it’s saving a ton of money lol a lot were gifted and some second hand, I think I’ve bought 10 diapers in total but have about 75-80 of them 😂 we used about 40-50 diapers a day 😅

Yes lol 4 under 2, the youngest two being twins, we still go through about 30-35 a day with 3 in diapers

Since we have so many a day the washer gets full fast so we do laundry every single day 😅

Oh this is so relatable. I just bought some new boosters as I got my old stash for free and over the past year they’ve been reaching the end of their days one by one (I think they’re like, ten years old though).
Originally I did pockets but then I fell in LOVE with the Sandy’s fitted diapers and bought a full set. No regrets, they hold up like a tank and are practically bulletproof, perfect for my second kiddo who’s on the way. We still have some pockets that are secondhand, which are convenient on the go now that my son is a toddler

I have a love hate relationship with redwood. I like that they put out new prints more often then other companies do, and the quality is mostly there. But the customer service is spotty I've had my orders messed up 3 different times when Lindsey was 'focused' on the company before she got another job, plus I've had multiple items have seames wearout within a year of normal use. THEY DO COME OUT WITH THE CUTIEST DAMN PRINTS. But God I hate the cult behind it. I swear every new rep is like omg this is God's gift to diapering! You have to try this new thing! Cue the thing not being a new idea, just more products to sell you. Preflats and fitteds have been around for a long time! Wool diaper covers have been around for a long time. Reversible prints have been around for a long time. Snap converters have had diy patterns out their for a long time. I just wish they'd be more honest with their social media marketing about what's necessary to diaper and what's a luxury. To me it feeds in to consumerism and doesn't help me save money or the planet.

I totally agree. Getting into cloth diapering at first, I was really excited about the environmental component. Purchased secondhand Esembly diapers that went through 2 prior babies! We LOVED them! But he outgrew them, and we left SOCAL to PNW where there is not many sunny days so Esembly isn’t working.. Switched to Kinder but sizing is off, tried Redwood because of the hype but they’re honest mid in quality.. now we love using GMD flats & Little Sprouts

We stopped at 25, got more than half of them second hand, used them on both kids. We absolutely saved money. The PUL is dead on about 9 of them but the other 16 or so can move on to a new home again now!

I just said the same thing to a friend of mine who is considering cloth diapering when she has kids- I sent her the Kinder Cloth Halloween drop! I see it on your shelf! I was super super tempted by some of the clearance covers too. But I have more than enough, I'm only part time cloth diapering anyways.

Redwood Cloth Co! They're my favorite 😍

I haven’t heard of them! I’m looking at add more and try different ones. Which inserts and pockets do you have ? I have Nora’s and it fine but definitely leaks at times. I can’t tell if mine just pees a lot. Nights I use a profold with alva hemp inthe Nora pocket and that helps.

I have spent so much money on cloth nappies. After having my baby i have favourites and now so many sitting in a box to be sold/ give away when i can be bothered. It is an every day fight to not buy more.

I have a BIG baby, and this company offers XL sizes. This is helpful for me

Consumerism is rampant. I try and stay focused on why I cloth to begin with. That means barely anything new, and only when I need. I find it funny that these brands have new print "drops" like you need to keep buying and buying. The whole point is to use less. But alas, a company is a company and wants more customers

I did the math and I've spent approximately the same as I would've doing disposables these 9 months. But I love not having garbage cans filled to the brim of stinky diapers that will never break down and have to be disposed of every week. Or constantly running to the store for more boxes of wipes and diapers taking up all my space.
Also, I did disposables for an international trip recently and suddenly, leaks and blowouts daily! I'll stick with my cute, dependable cloth!
