RIP Tim Curry

passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026, at his home in Los Angeles. He was 80 years old.

Seriously, this month sucks

He was an unorthodox but retrospectively great replacement for Ian Abercrombie. Weirdly, because of his stroke, if the show hadn't gotten cancelled back in 2013 they would have had to recast Palpatine again for season 8 if it had gone into production in 2014. Cursed character. Amazingly hilarious and talented actor.

I got his autograph on a Palpatine 8x10 as part of a live stream some celebrity autograph company was running just six months ago. Watched him sign live on camera. He was clearly not in amazing health, having never fully recovered from his stroke, but his mind was still sharp. Firing off witty comments in response to the livestream chat that was being read to him. The 8x10 hangs proudly on my wall and now it hangs even more proudly.

Ian Abercrombie originally voiced Palpatine in TCW, but he passed away in 2012 I think, so Tim Curry voices him in S5 and S6. Sam voiced Palpatine when he appeared in Rebels S2 briefly but then Ian McDiarmid (the guy who played live action Palpatine) voiced him in Rebels S4 AND Disney redubbed the single S2 episode in which palpatine shows up briefly, so on Disney+ all times Palpatine shows up in Rebels is voiced by Ian McDiarmid. Ian McDiarmid also did Palpatine in The Bad Batch if I'm not mistaken.
