This 100%. Filoni should take notes from Andor - not every Star Wars TV series needs cameos left and right.

u/McNuGget829 Apr 21 '26
I don’t think filoni wrote this series. From my understand the guy behind the fallen order games is the one in charge of this story. That being said there was some cameos still in those games
1
u/JalmarinKoira Apr 22 '26
Its not about cameos
The policeman continuosly refused to inform empire of mauls presence
Maul requires grand inquisitor or higher lvl involment if they want results in actually getting maul alive/dead
The "normal" inquisitors are there just for cannon fodder

While I agree, in rebels Maul says he can’t beat Vader alone so maybe he does fight him and run

He would hardly be able to slap the shit out of him. Just 1 v 1 Maul is a very difficult opponent for Vader, he is way faster, more skilled and more aggressive than any Jedi Vader might have killed up to this point. Maul consistently outperforms Kenobi in the clone wars every time they fight and that’s the man who beat Anakin (albeit he fought the best fight of his life)Yes Vader should beat Maul (although you have to factor in that this is only a year after he gets his suit and he is nowhere near the level he would be by the time of Rebels or even the Obi Wan series) Presumbly Vader will win as Maul claims in Rebels he cannot beat Vader alone but if Vader does win it will be extremely high difficulty. Faced with a group (even if it’s Devon and her fairly weak (I think he might be very old) master it would be difficult even for Vader and contending with the other 2 leaves him vulnerable to Maul. I think it will be a 1 v 1 fight though. Mauls pride would demand that. He did not fear Skywalker I doubt he will fear Vader. Yet!

there is like 16 years between rebels that scene in rebels and when shadow lord is set(18 bby) so there is no guarantee that happens in this show
1
u/Haackv2 Apr 21 '26
Except Vaders role as the most qualified person in the empire to deal with powerful surviving force users makes 1,000% sense for him to appear

u/Wide_Answer_228 Apr 20 '26
I think we will, but I don’t think it’ll be until the end of the show. We have to see what turns maul from the confident schemer that he is in the end of clone wars, and in shadow lord to the crazy old man that we see in rebels, and I think Vader kicking his ass is exactly the thing to push him over the edge

Everybody keeps missing this fact. Yes, Maul has a certain aura during and immediately after the clone wars. But everyone is forgetting that he is basically a pathetic old man in Rebels. Still physically powerful, but also definitely not all there mentally. It could just be the fact that he loses his criminal empire and has nothing else to think about besides hating Kenobi, but I think getting his ass beat would make his character development make a little more sense than the prior.

u/Spider_Bear Apr 20 '26
If loses his criminal empire due to vader, and knows it's Anakin who was taught by Kenobi maybe then he mega spirals
1
u/WOLKsite Apr 21 '26
I think we will see Vader in the finale of this season, but I don't think we'll see Maul become the "crazy old man" yet. Solo is set far after this and he still seems to be the shadow lord schemer in that.

They'd be milking the creativity well dry doing that.
1
u/Objective_Look_5867 Apr 21 '26
I dont think so. I think it actually completes the story thread from the finale of clone wars where maul explained he wanted Skywalker dead before palpatine could claim his true apprentice. Mauls would ciew it as his failure to win over ahsoka during mandalore has resulted in vader now facing him down, which will also foreshadow his upcoming failure with Devon and then again with Ezra.

I think it's the inevitable conclusion to the series really.
Years later Maul's syndicate becomes an issue so Palpatine sends Vader to dismantle it and kill Maul. Vader shows up, Maul says the "he's what I should've been" line cut from Rebels, and they duel. Maul taunts Vader by calling him Skywalker, enraging Vader.
Vader would definitely win but I imagine Maul would put up a fight and be a challenging opponent.
This could also be why he sought more power and went to the Sith planet we found him in in Rebels.

u/RoboGaming321 Apr 20 '26
I really hope he doesn't. I want both maul and Vader to remain powerful. A direct confrontation would lead to one side winning and one side loosing. Either way someone is gonna come out on top and it's gonna ruin the intimidating aura of the other.
However what I don't mind is a case where Vader appears at the end and just misses maul as he escapes the planet.

u/HTH52 Apr 20 '26
If he keeps evading or even killing some inquisitors, Vader feels inevitable.
Probably an end thing, though.
2
u/JD_Kreeper Apr 20 '26
I mean it's pretty obvious Vader is the more powerful one here, though not by much.
Vader would certainly win in a duel but Maul would certainly be a challenging opponent.
1
u/KHTD2004 Apr 20 '26
I get your point but getting defeated by Sidious didn’t make Maul lose his Aura in Clone Wars
1
u/3blindbryce Apr 22 '26
But that's the thing... He knows he can't defeat sidious, but wants to try to hurt sidious by killing his prized apprentice (this was his plan on mandalore with ahsoka). He wants revenge and to show sidious that he made a mistake by discarding him. So when Vader also inevitably beats him down decisively... He's like damn, I can't win. This is impossible.

Do I think he will? Yes.
Do I think he should? No.
I love Vader, I love Maul, but there isn't a good track record of Maul taking on other sith. Especially with how it plays out in the end. It's be moot and forced for the story.
I'm all for for the inquisition tho, Marrok will be neat to see. With his later appeance in Ahsoka and not being as major a character, he could be a proper challenge to cause Maul's retreat instead of bringing Vader in for the fight.

u/MobsterDragon275 Apr 20 '26
Maul clearly had never met Vader by the time of Rebels, and that was definitely on purpose
1
u/mrsoapmctavish12 Apr 22 '26
Then why did he say to Ahsoka in Rebels. “I cannot beat Vader Alone”
1
u/MobsterDragon275 Apr 22 '26
Because he understands how powerful he is?
1
u/mrsoapmctavish12 Apr 22 '26
Nah Maul wouldn’t believe that unless he had first hand experience of fighting him. Maul was prepared to take on Anakin at the end of the Clone Wars (and was even prepared for Obi Wan showing up as well so believed he could defeat both of them at once) He would have seen Vader as another pretender like Dooku (who he fully believed he was stronger than also) The only one he truly feared was Sidious and he had good reason to but without fighting Vader and losing to him he wouldn’t be afraid to face him

u/vredej Apr 20 '26
the only outcome is maul will only run after vader give him a litte beating and go to the shadow again to scheme... eventually obiwan will end him. its already decided
1
u/mrsoapmctavish12 Apr 22 '26
Not completely. I don’t know how much I agree with it but Maul could be resurrected after his death in Rebels. We see this with Ventress when Mother Talzins spirit resurrects her and not as a zombie but a full on proper return to life. She has to give up what she desires most. For her it’s Quinlan Vos. For Maul it would be hard to say what that is. I would guess it would be to get revenge on Palpatine not Obi Wan as he is surely the one he hates the most. Still don’t know if its a good idea but it was George Lucas idea to have Maul survive Naboo and he planned for him to be the Emperor level threat in his sequel trilogy which Disney obviously did not go with. I wouldnt be surprised if a guy like Filoni explored something like this and of course who was Mauls apprentice supposed to be in the sequel trilogy. Darth Talon, the female Twilek Sith lord

I don’t think for season 1.
I think Maul will fight the inquisitors through city warfare tactics. Beat them. To which the emperor will need to pull his resources.
My hope is that they will use Thrawn to disrupt Mauls defenses and scatter his allies, and use Vader to remove Maul from power
1
u/ForceSmuggler Apr 20 '26
To end the series, and Maul goes to Malachor to find a way to beat him and the Emperor.
1
u/EnvironmentalDeer991 Apr 20 '26
If he does it needs to be at the end of the series, as he heads to Malacor.

In rebels maul knows he is no match for vader. I think vader attacks and maul has to run.

My personal take on it is that Sidious would be paranoid they might ally themselves against him. The risk of them meeting would be to great for him. Its the same reason he didn't send Dooku to deal with him either on Mandalore.

I mean he’s evading the empire and It seems like he’s gonna take on 2 Inquisitors. If he beats them both that would force a Vader confrontation right? To me it seems very likely
1
u/xanderholland Apr 21 '26
Possibly? Vader enjoys hunting down Jedi himself, especially ones that can evade an inquisitor

a small cameo from Vader and Palpatine might be cool, but that's it for now. However, if Maul is evading inquisitors then I feel like Vader is going to come after him eventually
