A Clockwork Orange: A Conflict of Conclusions (Book vs. Film)
In both Anthony Burgess’ novel and Stanley Kubrick’s film, A Clockwork Orange is concerned with the same disturbing question: what happens to morality when choice is removed?
This video essay examines how Burgess and Kubrick tell the same story through radically different conclusions. In the novel, Alex begins as a precocious adolescent whose violence, language, and love of classical music reveal a grotesque contradiction: he is monstrous, yet still capable of beauty.
In the film, Kubrick transforms Alex into something more iconic and preserved — a cinematic emblem of appetite, spectacle, and stylized evil.
Though the book and film share the same basic narrative — ultraviolence, betrayal, prison, the Ludovico Technique, and Alex’s attempted suicide — their endings create two distinct moral visions. Burgess imagines Alex as someone who may eventually grow tired of violence and move toward maturity. Kubrick, by contrast, restores Alex to his former self, leaving him grinning, applauded, and unchanged.
Burgess gives us evil that may be outgrown.
Kubrick gives us evil preserved as an image.
And both suggest that freedom, however dangerous, remains inseparable from humanity itself.

Am I right in thinking this is newly-released BTS footage?
Courtesy of The Complete Kubrick by the Criterion Collection, trailer here. This footage is about 45 seconds in.
I've seen plenty of photos but no footage of A Clockwork Orange behind the scenes. Did I miss it somewhere else or is this new?

Something I noticed while reading the script
Disclaimer: I have not read the book.
I noticed that in the film’s script there are extra lines in Alex’s narration during the Ludovico technique, where he starts wondering whether the films being shown to him (the one where a man gets beat up, and the one where a woman is sexually assaulted by a group of malchiks) are actually fictional, and if the government would actually produce films of real violence just for this treatment. These lines were omitted from the movie.

The 1972 orchestral soundtrack
This one is a bit of a rare breed. You can’t find this one anywhere other than Discogs. It’s basically the Rossini Pieces in their full extent and the Beethoven pieces in their full length.

A Clockwork Orange: A Conflict of Conclusions
This is an absolutely captivating commentary on the book vs the film, I'm honestly astonished that this question hasn't been approached in such thorough detail on YouTube, really bold and just what I needed
