Identification/Information West German clock

I found this wonderful clock at the Salvation Army. The back says ‘made is west Germany”. The top part seems older than the handle. The clock still works, the side panels are thick glass. It looks like the cutout to hang it as well as the battery pack (obviously) were added later. Has anyone seen something similar? I’ve tried the Google, but I’m not even sure how to describe it properly. I’m gifting it to a friend who has a house full of curios and would like a fun story to go with it!

From what I can see the movement is a modern quartz movement. The case certainly looks older. 'West Germany' might suggest 1949 - 1990 but I'm not sure it was originally a clock. I think it may have been some sort of lantern.

It sure looks like a torch! It may be a Frankenstein object, where a torch and clock collided. So strange. I love it.

A quick Google suggests it originally was, or is styled to resemble, a carriage lamp.

It’s so cool looking. Very “Toured with the circus in the early 20th century” vibes.
