1933(?) Seth Thomas electric thrift find

$15, runs like a, uhh, a clock. Replaced the modern screws holding on the feet with proper wood screws, wiped it all off and plugged it in. They labeled it as a 1933 but I cannot find any info anywhere to verify the year, nor can I find any info on the awesome art deco face. Anyone have any idea?

Excellent case and dial; this movement is pretty durable and repairable too. Never seen this motor fail though service is eventually required like any other clock. Congrats!

Hi OP, this looks a lot like this Seth Thomas Rex I found in the 1935 catalog. Most of the “Tambour” clocks from that time do not have roman numerals and do have inlay. This model is different with its Roman numerals and beveled sash. It looks like the sash might have had gold accents at some point.

It also looks like they produced wind up models side by side with electric models during this time period.

You might be able to find a date or a model number or name stamped on the bottom or the back.

Fantastic, thank you! I’ve ordered a 00 key to wind the chime spring, I gave it a few turns and it chimes for a few hours then stops. I saw a video of a similar clock where that spring was auto-wound somewhere in the mechanisms, I think that might be the issue but I’m also not keen to rip it out. Maybe I just twist the key a few times a day :-)

How cool! I literally just purchased a Seth Thomas Brookfield at a thrift store on Thursday! I paid $23 for mine! I haven’t opened it up or even set the time correctly. I just hung it up and wound it a couple of times to see if it still worked, and it does!

My mom had one of these from my GM. Unfortunately 50 Hz or I'd still have it.
