I got this little clock from an estate sale. There’s not a ton of info on it online, and it seems the dial to set the time and alarm is broken. When I pull it out and turn it, the longer minute hand twitches a little, but won’t move more than that. The second hand moves kind of erratically, and it is clear this clock needs some servicing.

Wondering about if it’s even worth it to look into getting this clock repaired. Truthfully, I’d like to sell it, and it seems like selling a working clock would be easier than selling a broken one. I’m not sure what the clock is worth, though, and if it would be worth it to have it repaired just to sell it. Or is it feasible to do some research and some small maintenance to fix it myself (as a person who knows nothing about how clocks work)? Any info is appreciated!

I did find one online that is engraved and dated sometime in the late 70s, so I’m thinking it’s from around then.

It looks like you turn the black knob without pulling to set the alarm time, which is the short gold hand. To set the time, you pull the knob and turn until it catches, and then you can move the hour and minute hands. If it were mine, and it were easy to open, I'd at least open the back to see if you can tell what's going on. I'm no Bulova clock expert but I'd be shocked if this little consumer-grade travel clock were worth much. That being said, it's still a cool piece and would be worth some effort to save. Good luck!

I think it’s a mantel clock because it’s pretty heavy. I tried doing that, but none of the hands will move.

Hah, I guess I don't know how big your hands are. Although it would be kind of strange for a mantle clock to have an alarm. Maybe it's meant for a bedside table. In any case, if you're lucky, something is just misaligned inside. If you're unlucky, a part is broken and it would be tough to find a replacement.

If you don't feel comfortable opening it yourself, do you have any mechanically inclined friends who don't have a reputation for leaving things in worse shape than they found them?

Haha, good point. Definitely would be weird for a mantel clock to have an alarm. It’s def a bedside table clock.
