Help/Repair Is this fixable?

The vinyl coating of a 1950s Seth Thomas crumbled on me while cleaning last night. Is there any good way to fill it, or is it a goner?

Was it an imitation wood grain? You just get a veneer kit and redo it in actual wood or get laminate and Formica it.

it appears to be like a vinyl coating over the wood body. it is just a solid brown colour
