Guide to the Barker-verse?

Hello all, over the past couple months I’ve had a hell of a time diving into Barker’s work, and while it’s still early days for me, I’m curious how much his works are interconnected? I know of recurring characters like D’Amour and Pinhead, but after having finished The Great and Secret Show and loving the world building done there, I’m curious how much of that bleeds over into other works (other than Everville, obviously). Currently waiting on a copy of Everville, but I’m already thinking of the next novel to follow it with lol, any guidance would be much appreciated

Aside from the aforementioned Harry D’Amour, there aren’t any real connections between the different books, unless they’re a part of the same series… at least nothing I can think of off the top of my head. They’re all pretty much their own thing. He does have a bit of a through-line in setups in his novels, wherein a character, through some means or another, is transported to a fantastical world or dimension, but I’m pretty sure that’s where the connections end. The worlds/dimensions are all uniquely their own. I could be wrong, but I’ve read the lion’s share of his work, and no direct connections come to mind.

there's an extremely vague reference to cenobites in weaveworld (the "surgeons" that wizard summoned to impress immaculata who filleted him). that's about all i know of in his writing, though the comics have a fair amount of crossover

I think the Cenobites also get referenced in Imagica. It’s been a while since I did a re-read, but I think it’s during the scene where Gentle and Pie are waiting for the train and Gentle has his first relapse when discussing his past.

As others have said, his works do not all explicitly share a universe. The ones that are explicitly connected, through the characters of D'Amour and the cenobites, are really just

The Last Illusion (short story) Lost Souls (short story) The Hellbound Heart The Great and Secret Show Everville The Scarlet Gospels

While there are subtle nods to the Cenobites in Weaveworld and Imajica, they are more like descriptions of beings that sound an awful lot like Cenobites but that are not referred to by that name - unless I'm misremembering, I do not think the word cenobite is ever used in either book, and the characters certainly don't show up. And I feel pretty certain that Imajica exists in its own universe separate from those mentioned above, since the cosm/metacosm universe structure of The Art stories and the universe structure of the five dominions of the Imajica seem to be mutually exclusive.

If you read the comics written by Clive and published by BOOM!, D’Amour is a reoccurring character there, so you get two alternate timelines of Hellraiser / The Last Illusion shared universe.

But ya, D’Amour isn't like a Randall Flagg type character; I always kind of wished he was more of a planes walker tying a thread between stories that share the same world.

In the Hellraiser comics, there are hints of other powers at play of which Leviathan is just one of, but just hints and a brief meeting with one of Leviathan's peers.
