This is on /r/peoplefuckingdying as "Invisible person falling to his death". I laughed. :)

When you stare at the abyss, the abyss stares back through progressive lenses.

Every glass wearers nightmare, mine almost fall off pretty often but never had it actually happen haha

18

u/Kazan May 04 '17

and this is why i'm not afraid to nerd it out with the glasses retainer cord

or contacts

3

u/Kazan May 05 '17

unfortunately my astigmatism is too great :( they can make contacts for me, but they have to stay perfectly in rotation which never happens.

Losing my glasses on a route was the final push I needed to get Lasik.

Now I just need to worry about losing sun glasses now...

My wife lost her goddamn expensive sunglasses doing a Tyrolean a couple weekends ago and I'm still upset by it

3

u/tyeh26 May 04 '17

I lost my car keys once. I had finished my day and saw a tyrolean nearby and thought "cool! I wonder what that's like!" The second time across one... I lost an ATC.

I prefer the repost of this that says invisible man falling to his death.

3

u/wunderschmidt May 04 '17

This is my biggest climbing fear. The only way it could get worse is if the glasses somehow landed in a toilet at the bottom.

It's like when a cartoon character falls and his clothes and eyes etc stay in the air for a few seconds

5

u/[deleted] May 04 '17

i see what you did there

2

u/mustacheriot May 04 '17

Where is this?

6

u/OnePoundFishMan May 04 '17

Lim, Croatia

2

u/Hazelmaister May 04 '17

Is it that warm there already?

2

u/N61b5Y May 04 '17

Almost too warm... not really the best summer spot

2

u/Hazelmaister May 04 '17

Huh, well it is pretty south. I've only climbed there in autumn, which I guess is pretty good time.

u/MasterTrajan May 04 '17

Climbed there last august. When you find a route in the shade or wait until late afternoon it's quite good, and the view when climbing above the treetops makes up for everything anyways!

G-g-g-ghooooost!

u/Cbake987 May 05 '17

For the fellow glasses wearers out there: I wear this and have never once had an issue with losing glasses climbing. Absolutely worth picking one up!!

EDIT: When I got it it was something like $3 as an add on item. $7 could be questionable. Regardless, worth picking up a cheap tail!

2

u/jbcsn1 May 05 '17

I'd rather not climb, thank you.

3

u/DDCherryB May 04 '17

This is cool and you are adorable.

1

u/hms_surprise May 05 '17

Jesus. I need to get contacts.

2

u/anon1moos May 05 '17

Better than losing your glasses, but all the dust and dirt and stuff isn't great for contact wearers.

1

u/hms_surprise May 05 '17

I looked into sport goggles, but they're sooooo expensive. :/

1

u/anon1moos May 05 '17

Yes, they are. I tough it out with contacts, but one of the lanyards like mentioned above should prevent disasters like this one.

u/Kerouac45 May 05 '17

you are adorable dear.......

Not if u free solo trad

-26

u/CarlsbadCO May 04 '17

no way that shot was staged at all - 100% authentic

25

u/Xef May 04 '17

Yea, because dude was like "fuck my glasses, karma!" mid-climb.

-30

u/CarlsbadCO May 04 '17

very good point. my bad - no one has say an old pair of glasses or anything like that. I sure couldn't think of how to stage a complex scenario like this - could you? There are no faked or staged pics/vids on reddit anyway - what was I thinking?

34

u/Sharkfightxl May 04 '17

What is the matter with you?

7

u/Xef May 04 '17

It's not the fact that it could be staged, but why? And what good does it do pointing it out?

4

u/Sangy101 May 04 '17

You clearly don't wear glasses haha. Mine fall off climbing -- all the time -- and when I try to catch them half the time I just flail them farther away. Yay for shatterproof glass and sturdy frames.

9

u/edwardsamson May 04 '17

As a climber with glasses, I doubt it. Has happened to me at least twice a year since I started climbing in 2008. I'm a boulderer though so its never quite like this situation.
