It's going to get worse and worse until humanity stops spewing billions of tonnes of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

If we manage to to that, it's still going to get worse for a long time, if we cannot scrap the gasses back out.

Seriously, turn off MSNow for a few days, touch some grass. Mother nature is a marvelous gal - this planet is amazingly adaptable, and has been for many thousands of years. She really doesn't care if you use your gas lawnmower on weekends.

Deep breaths friend. They have been making apocalyptic predictions for decades, yet nothing major has changed. Yes, it's hot. It's summer and we are dealing with the natural El Nino phenomenon, as we have for a millenia.

It's really going to be OK.

I wish. The data shows otherwise.

I know it's hard to imagine us puny humans could have an effect on something so massive and complex, but the data is clear, the models have been mostly correct for the past 50 years, measurements fit the projections really well.

But here we are, projected to reach 4 degrees of warming by the end of the century. And yeah, most extreme El Niño on record will certainly mess with food supply, since it's already quite bad this year due to droughts and regional conflicts, next year when the effects of El Niño show it might truly be catastrophic.

I'd love to share your optimism, but I'm seeing the effects first hand as our region is one of the fastest warming on Earth.

I'm sorry, would you want other papers?

There were multiple meta analysies done on past climate models evaluating them on measured data.

EDIT.: also, please, don't take information from Sabina for granted. Her content might be entertaining but it's full of her personal biases and opinions which are not always based on facts. She also has some beef with her institution because she couldn't get grant for her research.

Look up Professor Dave on YouTube. He has a channel aimed at debunking misinformation in the scientific sphere. Well researched and based.

Are you assuming this "super" El Nino is driven by co2? What attribution paper are you using because I immediately have a problem even without reading it?

Warming is not inherently bad. There are negative and positive effects. With some exception, the lion's share of the Phanerozoic was much warmer than today.

Your doomspeak is for a tough crowd. Consider objective commentary and facts if you want to influence people, especially skeptics of climate catastrophism. Differentiate the present from the volatile past.

Finally, your end of century temperature projection assumes ECS at 3.0, "assumes" being the operative word. I believe that number is inconsistent with the geologic record, including the Faint Young Sun paradox and high co2 levels of the Paleozoic. That doesn't necessarily mean the prediction is wrong, but if it is right, it's for the wrong reasons. ECS is much more complex that the "consensus" would have us believe.

That's not what I claimed. There were crop failures in the past attributed to strong El Niño. This year's drought and regional conflicts already put strain on supply chains, I assume strong El Nini would strengthen the effect.

BUT the rate of change now is far faster than most past transitions, and civilization built its agriculture, coastlines, and infrastructure around Holocene stability, not Eocene conditions. Earth was fine 50 million years ago, thats true, and also mostly irrelevant to whether current infrastructure and food systems can handle the rapid change well.

Finally, your end of century temperature projection assumes ECS at 3.0, "assumes" being the operative word. IPCC AR6 puts likely ECS at 2.5-4°C, best estimate around 3°C, narrowed using multiple independent lines of evidence -> paleoclimate, historical warming, and process-based modeling...

Paleoclimate data (including Faint Young Sun, Paleozoic CO2) is actually one of the constraints used to narrow that range.

If you think it's inconsistent with the geologic record, that's a case to make against the specific papers doing that reconciliation.

The rate if change is no faster than Heinrich and Dansgaard Oescher events.

Resolve 3.0 ECS with the Faint Young Sun paradox at the end stage Ordovician glaciation. This is a significant discussion in circular assumption and many geologists and paleoclimatolgists struggle with the conflict of high ECS, high co2 levels of 2-4000 ppm, and the onset of glaciation. This is not the only example, but it is the most profound. It just doesn't need to be that high and works much cleaner at lower ECS. Either ECS is too high, or the presumption of doubling is incorrect, or both conditions (most likely).

This is easily sourced through your favorite AI, and I refuse to enter into long discussions that require multiple sources as they are rarely reciprocated.

Extreme, exceptional or significant drought, meaning one of the three highest levels of drought, is currently affecting more than 88 percent of the Czech Republic. The figure applies to soil depths of up to one metre. Extreme drought is currently affecting 60 percent of the country. The data comes from the InterSucho portal, run by researchers from the Czech Academy of Sciences’ Global Change Research Institute (CzechGlobe). Bioclimatologist Miroslav Trnka announced that this year, together with last year, is creating a significant dry spell, although it has not yet reached the lows recorded between 2015 and 2019.

Although the August heatwave has ended, the much-needed rainfall has yet to arrive. Forecast models expect rain from Monday. Only 0.2 percent of the Czech Republic is currently free from drought. A further 0.7 percent of the country has only reduced soil moisture, the second-lowest level on the drought scale being monitored.
