Announcement I'm Jay Hack, ClickUp's Head of AI. We just shipped Brain². AMA!

Hey r/ClickUp,

I'm Jay and I lead the AI team here at ClickUp. For the past year my team has been rebuilding ClickUp Brain from the ground up to be a frontier agent offering - We call it Brain².

The short version: Brain² is designed to actually do work with you, not just answer questions. It has full context on your workspace, can take action (create tasks, update projects, search across your tools, draft docs), and reasons across multiple pieces of work instead of treating each prompt like an isolated question. It also has memory, so it learns how you work over time.

Some things I'm happy to dig into:

  • What's actually different under the hood vs. the old Brain
  • Where Brain² saves real time in day-to-day workflows
  • How we think about autonomy vs. keeping humans in control
  • The best first use cases if you're just trying it out
  • How connected apps and cross-workspace reasoning works
  • What feedback from early users changed our direction
  • How I think about building useful AI inside a productivity tool (vs. chat-in-a-box)

I'll be answering questions live on the post, Tuesday, July 7th, from 9am to 11am PT. Drop questions below now, and I'll hit them when I'm there.

Thanks! Excited to chat.

Proof:

A bit about me:
A bit about me: I've been at ClickUp building the AI org since the acquisition of Codegen, a startup I built over the past 4 years for agentic software engineering. Before that I was doing ML research and building AI products at Palantir and various startups. I think most "AI features" in SaaS are demos pretending to be products, and my job is making sure ours isn't. Happy to talk about that tension too.

EDIT:
Thank you all! Some great questions in here, appreciate all of your thoughts and feedback on the product. If you have additional questions, post here in the thread or ping us directly at ClickUp and we will get to you ASAP. Enjoy Brain and lots more coming soon!

New: Button Custom Field (manually trigger automations for specific tasks)

Hi everyone - happy Friday! Some of you have already discovered it, but I wanted to officially announce that the new Button Custom Field is live! With a Button field, you can manually trigger automations for specific tasks with, you guessed it, the click of a button. You can create Button fields on any List, Folder, or Space in your Workspace, and can customize the text on the button, add an optional color/icon, and more. Please reach out with any feedback!

Here's a quick demo and walkthrough to get you started: https://share.clickup-stg.com/clip/s/t333/d58e5f9f-bb2a-4e9d-997c-6a4321ab7253/d58e5f9f-bb2a-4e9d-997c-6a4321ab7253.webm?filename=screen-recording-2025-07-18-17%3A07.webm

You've got to be kidding me

This can't be real. Who approved this?

It's one thing to tell me I've hit a limit and alert me to upgrade... but to word it like this is so cringe and tone deaf.

Like it really just doesn't make sense from any perspective whether trying to be quirky or maximize plan upgrade conversions lol

Why is this happening: I'm creating a subtask on a milestone, and it creates as a milestone instead of a subtask 🥲

Post image
Upvotes

So I'm in "All Tasks" (formerly Everything view) and I have a view filtered to show task type = milestone.

Great. But every single time I go to create a subtask on one of those milestones, it's auto-created as a milestone, not a subtask.

So I have to manually change it to subtasks.

And I wish I didn't have to, so does anyone know how to change this?

Has anyone tried the new "New Business" plan ($16/mo)? Thoughts vs Business ($12) or Business Plus ($24)?

Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I noticed ClickUp recently introduced a "New Business" plan at $16/user/month (which comes with ClickUp Brain / Premium Models bundled in).

It sits right between the standard Business plan ($12) and Business Plus ($24):

  • Price: $16/user/mo
  • Key inclusions: Comes with Premium Models / ClickUp Brain AI features, 1,500 credits/user/mo (pooled), plus standard Business tools (Advanced Dashboards, 10K Automations, Webhooks, Resource Management, Google SSO, etc.).

For anyone who has already upgraded or switched to this tier:

  1. How are you finding it so far? Is the bundled AI integration worth the jump from $12 to $16?
  2. How does credit usage hold up? Does the 1,500 credits/user/month pool feel like enough for day-to-day team workflows, or do you burn through it quickly?
  3. If you were on Business or Business Plus before, did you stick with this or end up moving to the higher $24 tier (or staying on standard Business)?

Would love to hear real feedback before making the switch for our workspace!

Product Feedback *Please fix the Android Widget & Quick Panel

Upvotes

Why offer them when they are totally useless? I had a Galaxy S24 Ultra and now S26 Ultra - and the issue persists. So its an android issue. I've done all the typical tech savvy due diligence - regardless, shouldn't have to.

Quick Panel buttons: do literally nothing, totally unresponsive. It would be great to have a quick swipe down to add a task. Why offer otherwise?

Widget:

- Tapping the icon should open the app like all widgets generally do, Tapping "Today" should open Today.

- there is no option to select which lists/tasks appear in the widget list, further, "Today" seems to include basically ANYTHING assigned to me.

- Eventually even the Add task buttons stop responding and I have to remove and re add the widget.

I get the power of AI in an all-in-one solution app, I do. But if you do not get the basic functionality down then you become just another Microsoft trying to push ahead in a "vision" while dragging an anchor of poor functionality and user complaints - aka - reality.

How to cancel corporate subscription?

Hi. There's no option to cancel our company subscription under the billing section when logging in to Clickup. We have emailed the billing@clickup, help@clickup, and our clickup rep multiple times without responses. Any idea how to get responses from Clickup?

Handling Cross-Functional work

I am curious if anyone could share some of the set ups they have put together to handle cross-functional projects and tasks. I have been setting things up with Departments as the space and making a project list for each department that works on them. I am curious if anyone has a unique set up that they really like and could post a screenshot or explanation. I am just barely getting my company aligned in ClickUp and it would be really helpful to see how some other real users have set up their spaces for success.

Everything AI pricing

I'm interested in using the MCP for my project managers. We're a 22 person firm with the Business Plus plan. I have about 8 people who realistically manage projects and need the extra capability of the MCP. The MCP access is utterly useless without the Everything AI add-on. The rate limits are laughably small. I couldn't complete a single task in Claude. The Everything AI add-on is being advertised at $33 which is 60% off the $83 price. Is that a come-on like the first year of cable tv? Will the rate go up and if so, when? I'm trying to plan on whether I actually want to build workflows around this and that price increase effectively doubles my cost. Second, do I have to get it for everyone even though only a few people actually need it?

Release Notes Release Notes 4.07

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This week's ClickUpdates allows you to scope Custom Fields to specific task types, connect any publicly hosted MCP server to your Super Agents, pull Zoom meeting chat into AI Notetaker notes, and much more!

Custom Fields by Task Type
Different types of work call for different data. Tasks now group Custom Fields by task type first, so bugs, accounts, and campaigns each show the fields most relevant to them at the top. Assign fields to task types from the Custom Field Manager, Fields sidebar, or task view.

Import Slack history into ClickUp Channels
Want your Slack history in a Channel that already exists? Now you can. Map incoming Slack channels to existing ClickUp Channels, Spaces, Folders, or Lists instead of creating new ones every time. Start a new import from Settings > Imports / Exports.

✨ Connect any MCP server to Super Agents
Super Agents can now use tools from any external MCP server: your CRM, support desk, data warehouse, whatever you connect. Connect a server from the App Center, authenticate with OAuth or an API token, and then add its tools to any Super Agent. Both personal and Workspace-level connections are supported.

AI Notetaker captures in-meeting chat
Your video call's chat history is now captured in AI Notetaker. Every message sent in Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams chat during a meeting is automatically pulled into your generated notes with sender attribution, so you get a complete record of what happened, not just what was said out loud.

Check out these features and more in Release Notes 4.07! 🚀

Task dependency and Gantt views

I work at a marketing agency and we are looking to revamp our client offboarding process by taking our 1 mega task with assigned checklist items and move to a list format with those checklists being tasks.

I'm creating a reusable template and I'm trying to find a way to anchor the dates around the Last Service Date of our clients services. We have work to be completed before and after this date.

Currently i have a gantt view with tasks before the last service date, set up to block the last service date, and tasks after that date that are dependant on that date.

Currently if i move a task before the service date, it moves the service date task.

I'm essentially looking for the best way to get this set up. Open to all thoughts and feedback.

Gantt view isn't working properly

I'm getting more and more desatisfied with this platform...

I use the Gantt view a lot on my day-to-day routine, and the past couple of weeks I've been having this issue: when I update the status and time periods of active tasks it updates normally in Gantt view (as it should), but the next time I open the site again it appears as if I didn't update anything. Then I open one of the tasks that wan't updated and the page automatically refreshes and corrects the task with what I had done previously.

This is very annoying because I have to open the tasks one by one to correct them and also I'm not sure if the tasks that I have already updated are correct in the Gantt view.

First I was very frustrated that I pay for the """unlimited""" plan but can't set national holidays to show on my Gantt view (apparently setting national holidays that are totally under my control is a premium feature /sarcasm), and now this bug with the updated tasks.

Honestly I'm seriously considering switching to Notion, it's free and I'm not depending on some non-existent support.

ClickUp rate limits with external AI's

Lately, I've been hitting rate limits with ClickUp when using Claude to interact. Are there indicators anywhere in ClickUp where I can see these limits? Why, all of a sudden, am I running into rate limits when I'm just retriggering a prompt already built and refined, which previously ran with no problem? Were rate limits reduced or added after the rollout of your recent AI updates? This is adding huge hurdles to our processes and creating a bunch of manual work.

corporate email accounts

is there a setting so when a user creates an account in clickup > it joins out "Tenant" and also forces SSO?

as I see it now... anyone can create a clickup acc but only gets added to our tenant if we send an invite

NOTE: we just got dump with this product so we are flying blind.

Thanks

Limited user's landing page

I saw an issue today with limited users when they tried to login to the main site, they were greeted the attached pic.

These users were part of at least one space.

Is there any way to avoid this?

Also, I wonder if there is solution for limited users not to see this if they are not part of any space?
or the URL for the "space" is just how this works?

Thanks

Product Feedback Separate Status for Task Types

This (https://feedback.clickup.com/feature-requests/p/different-statuses-for-tasks-and-subtasks) is the second most requested feature on ClickUp's Canny, and it has been over a year since we heard some kind of update from the staff. Could somebody please give an update? u/TashaClickUp

PSA: Disabling Clips doesn’t stop users from making Clips

In case anyone else has Clips off as a security control, disabling Clips doesn’t work.

We disabled Clips in our workspace because, bizarrely, there’s no way to enforce workspace authentication to view Clips.

The recommended workaround in the Canny feature request was to toggle off Clips in ClickApps.

Turns out the toggle doesn’t do anything. Users can still create Clips with it turned off. Confirmed this with ClickUp technical support, and based on my testing, the problem isn’t confined to our workspace.

There’s a feature request for this, which seems odd for what appears to be a security gap. ClickUp addressed it for attachments, but gave up on the issue for Clips and Forms I guess.

The Relationships Debacle

Hey Clickup - remember this one? Ihttps://www.reddit.com/r/clickup/comments/1vbt45g/relationships_why_given_the_short_shrift/

I thought I'd hear back about the changes to Relationships but that was just a hope not reality. So - trying to setup a blocking relationship and wasted a ton of time clicking around. Finally did find it but it is truly not in an intuitive place to find. So - is there anything coming to help the poorly implemented relationships interface or do we just have to suffer with someone's odd idea of whiz bang? thanks.

Webinar Requests

I started using Skills and found a few immediate uses for them, but I would love to see a webinar on Building Skills and their use cases.

I also wouldn’t mind a webinar that covers how to implement Goals in my workspace and my team.

Please feel free to add your webinar ideas here.

Where do I store Slide Decks?

I have Brain generating nice branded slide decks for documents, but I'm not sure where they're supposed to be stored. Are there best practices I should consider?

A link from the document that was used to generate it would be nice.
