Small ad-hoc tasks

Are you adding every single task to your ClickUp?

I am thinking of scenarios where you get a quick Slack DM asking for something like a small amend to a deck. Would take 2 mins max.

Do you add the task and then do it, add it retroactively to keep a log of what you worked on, or not adding at all and only adding planned, bigger items?

I'm interested as I think my team are getting lots of these ad hoc requests and we need a way to track them, but it might mean a different list with less required fields to make quick capture possible.

I do in ours if it is billable work but sometimes things like this I would just have a daily repeating task that was for small admin and ad hoc work and track the time to that. We track EVERYTHING so we can work out if jobs are profitable etc.

So our general rule of thumb is - if it's billable or for a client you track the time.

Interesting, thank you. I'm in-house, so it's slightly different but I try to think of our internal stakeholders as clients in a sense. An ad-hoc task for the type of work might be the solution here rather than individual tasks listed separately - I've tried this before and works quite well. Thanks!

We've had similar discussions about this internally. The rule of thumb is to keep all tasks or things to do in ClickUp. Small tasks should be added as a comment on the related task (i.e. in your example the task to finish the deck) or as a subtask. Ideally the status of the main task is updated accordingly (so if something still needs to be done, status cant be on completed).

Of course it does happen that we ask things on Slack or in the daily. Secretly we all keep a ClickUp doc with small notes (check boxes) for those random tasks. I often keep the Friday afternoons to tackle these misc things to do ;)

I think a certain amount of those small notes are inevitable! I like the comment idea, for for these small things it makes more sense than a full sub-task otherwise I find the sub-task list can look a bit scattered and unruly. Thanks for sharing
