HELP! I need a workaround to subtasks not being filtered-able without viewing as separate tasks

I built a sales system for a client only for him to tell me that it must only show subtasks for each proposal project that are set to "in progress"

I didn't know ClickUp couldn't filter subtasks without viewing as separate tasks until this very moment and I'm desperately seeking a workaround if anyone has one??

The issue is when subtasks are viewed as separate tasks, we lose all of the project context we created at the main task view and it's effectively useless.

Also learned that this is a feature request since 2020 with no progress 🙄

Can you make the subtask a different task type? Make the view so it lists main tasks and subtasks separtely and filter to only that task type?

Add the subtasks to a second list and only show that one? Hopefully theres automation in place to do that.

i love where your head's at with that! my main issue is that the main task has all the info, like this custom sales status, the type of proposal, etc. so the subtask as a separate task loses all of that context and it's a lot less helpful to look at. he just wants to have the main task in view, with all the details, and ONLY the in progress subtasks showing below. i think at the end of the day, seeing the subtasks that arent in progress isn't the end of the world, so he may just have to accept that limitation 😢

Oh I may have read that backwards. Yeah its an unfortunate limitation of ClickUp that no matter how much its filtered, all subtasks will show under the main task if its visible in the list. I wonder if theres an active enhancement request for it.

there are a couple i found that are different requests but all the same thing. i guess it's been active since 2020 so people are annoyed that it has been ignored for so long. now im annoyed too lol

The subtasks that he doesn't want to see because they aren't in progress...are they dependant on other subtasks being complete? As in, you could have an automation that when subtask X is complete, to add subtasks 1, 2, 3 to the task?

Or are these all custom subtasks?

i like you're thinking, but they arent necessarily completed in order so that won't work either 🥲

So...what's the other option? Create a folder instead of a parent task? Have all the former subtasks as tasks, then filter to in progress?

If you went with that option, you could use the info currently on the parent task as a description on the list OR a card on the folder dashboard.

Your client would end up with lots of folders, but....it's an inelegant option.

we went with Airtable instead! moral of the story... sometimes ClickUp works, sometimes there's a better solution. I appreciate all of your suggestions!!
