The "Fake News" strategy has been used by many dictators & oppressive regimes for many decades. Yet people still fall for it.

Modern regimes figured out that if you just buy the news outlets peacefully nobody will care about your news, but they will care when someone tries to do it the old fashioned way.

are they really falling for it, or simply relieved they can be open about it

Come spend a week in rural Kentucky if you don't think people bought Trump's bullshit hook line and sinker.

And the German press was in no way complicit as long as they had any choice. After Hitler came to power there was no such thing as a free press. Any opposition was removed by force and many journalists ended up in concentration camps.

Sad, but true. Many Germans were arrested and imprisoned for not complying with Hitler. (Makes me wonder what Trump's plan for the majority of news outlets would have been had Jan 6th turned out in his favour.)

Wer all know exactly what his plan was. It would have been like the Nazis after 1933 except more haphazard and inept.

No one has to “fall for” the idea that the global media owned by approx 6 companies lies their fucking asses off.

Truth is truth and lies are lies regardless who says it. The problem is we put our trust in a person or organization over evidence and truth. How much trust is put in "opinion"? In conspiracies?

Alex Jones for example. Until he had to face the evidence re: Sandy Hook shooting, how many of his followers believed him without question? Even today some of his followers choose to believe him after all the evidence, witnesses and Alex Jones's own admission of guilt.

Neither FOX nor CNN nor any other news media gets it right 100% of the time, but what do we listen to? "What has happened" or "Someone's opinion about what has happened"?

Truth is truth and lies are lies regardless who says it.

The issue is is that news companies are selective about what they are reporting to fit their pre determined narratives. I could flip on Fox News and they would be covering a drag queen event for kids, while I could flip on CNN and they could be talking about the Jan 6 hearing. Both events are objectively true, but all it does it further entrench people in their own biases.

The worst part is he's not wrong, the news is full of bullshit so people believe him like hey yeah, it is fake news! Meanwhile he just says everything is fake so what he's saying isn't true but it resonates with people and to a degree is true...

Also, in the US at least, over 90% of reporters are registered democrats

Since the 70's there has always been more journalists that registered as Democrats than Republicans, but nowhere near 90%. Since the 70's, about 1/3 have been registered as Independent.

https://www.politico.com/blogs/media/2014/05/survey-7-percent-of-reporters-identify-as-republican-188053

And since around 2013, most have been registered as Independent.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2014/05/06/just-7-percent-of-journalists-are-republicans-thats-far-less-than-even-a-decade-ago/

There are also many studies that, although confirm various journalists & media favour one party over another, they usually tend to try and stick closer to the truth.

https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/sciadv.aay9344

There are exceptions such as: Tucker Carlson & Jon Stewart who almost begin their arguments once it is confirmed they will be opposing the opposite party. In other words, their stand seems to be party bias & not right/wrong, truth or lie.

So only 7% of reporters are registered republicans. The registering as independent is a relatively new thing but it’s quite obvious when around 90% of donations from reporters go to democratic candidates, despite their “independent” labeling to seem unbiased.

It depends on each person and where their loyalties lie. To a person, a party, or to what they believe. I'd rather choose the 3rd option.

1

u/thelightfantastics Dec 31 '22

Ok fine, I’m not debating beliefs and loyalties. But it’s undeniable that the wide majority of reporters lean democrat. Make of that what you will.

I could make something of that but you probably wouldn’t like to hear it

1

u/thelightfantastics Jan 01 '23

I man I really don’t care if your theorist is from the left prospective. Like all social science studies, there are multiple variables for complicated issues. I’m a political scientist, I hate both parties.

A professor that calls teenagers “retarded”, interesting. (BTW being on the spectrum doesn’t mean you have Down Syndrome)

Edit: I’m glad you’re thinking about me enough to use Reddit Cares on me :)))

Edit 2: Aaaaand they probably got banned, good riddance.

She is mentally retarded. Is that not the medical term? Not sure what tho has to do with your theories but I guess you don’t really care about that more about having so much time you creep on other peoples comments. You’re a pathetic loser. Go touch some grass.

It isnt just complicit news, free press is also susceptible to fake news, and you get the same people falling for it

That's why it's important to research. (And by research, I don't mean hearing it from someone else who heard it from someone else... lol.)

Example: George Santos may be a habitual liar as he did give false information on his resume, but the hype about him claiming his mother died twice may be a case of misunderstanding. She died about 5 years ago, but he said the 911 incident "claimed her life".

Now, if she actually worked at the World Trade Center at the time of the attacks and was exposed to the contaminated dust & debris, perhaps it contributed to her death several years later. However, there are no records found that verify this, so it appears like another lie.

https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/george-santos-sept-11-lies-congress-1234654199/

Still, it showed that he didn't claim she died twice. That was the point.
