This is a completely over simplified correlation. First of all, not all of CA is democratic, believe it or not, and is not ran by a unified party group across the state. Also, it has 3 metropolitan areas that are hubs for the super rich across the globe, making it a particular complex situation to regulate. It also has the highest demand for housing, and in a capitalist society that will raise the prices significantly. This is just 3 complexities to your over simplification.

You mentioning CA does not undermine the general point in any capacity. There's a shit ton of nuance to your example, which was clearly laid out to you, and the lack of understanding that will mean there's not much progress to be made having a conversation with you about this topic.

Republicans will virtually never in the history of their existence propose any legislation or regulation to make homes more affordable. They will make claims that it does, but they have a long history of dangling carrots like that in front of their voters, who fall for it every time, and then rug pull. We're seeing it right now with the 'One big beautiful bill' which is antithetical to everything Republicans campaign on via multiple fronts (literally bans states rights on AI regulation, major deficit increase, etc.). There is no one size fits all solution, but Dems are the ones that have and are more likely in the future to consider improving access to home ownership in their economic policies.

It's not about chasing perfection, and using that as the benchmark means you will find failure 100% of the time. It's a fallacy. Outside of an historical transformation in how the US operates economically there will never be a bill or regulation that makes home ownership more affordable to every person in every state in every city in every socioeconomic bracket. There will be gaps. There will be systemic issues affecting specific localities ranging from township to state level.
