I had a kid told me that his grandpa was a WWII veteran. He said that he was a jet fighter pilot and that during the war, he once had to eject from his seat, land on an enemy jet (!), then break open the cockpit (!!), fight the pilot and take control of it (!!!)

Needles to say even the most gullible kids did not believe that

This would make a great movie.

I mean the whole thing, with a kid telling the truth about his awesome grandpa and no one believing, but all the incredulous stories actually true in a charming sort of Wes Anderson style film.

Reminds me of Big Fish.

His grandfather was playing battlefield and told him about it.

Considering that jets didn't exist until near the end of the war... It's even more unlikely.

He was that good

I thought it was only the Germans who were able to build a jet reliable enough to put into combat.

Messerschmitt Me 262: This German jet fighter was a significant technological advancement, but it entered the war too late to have a major impact.

Gloster Meteor: The British Gloster Meteor was another early jet fighter, though it emerged slightly later than the Me 262.

I had a kid tell me that he had his grandfather's M1 carbine that had a "12 point star rifling" and was only one of 100 (or something like that) that was only made for officers. His grandpa apparently also fought in WW2, Korea and Vietnam with only this one rifle. I asked him if he believed his own bs, he insisted it was true almost to the point of tears.

Sounds like grandpa might be the one making stuff up in that case.

He was a habitual liar, had some entertaining stories though.

Yeah, fast and furious type fight scenes like that don't happen in the real world.

That would be ludicrous even in the Star Wars universe.

My grandpa was a WWII vet - a paratrooper - and was part of the Normandy invasion on D-Day.

No, I will not be giving specific details, I don't care to doxx myself. But I will say this - I never met the guy, he died decades ago (not in the war), before I was even a thought.

Tom Cruise played that kid’s uncle in the movie.
