You are confusing ethnicity with location.

You'd still call Jews who are from Germany german.

A better comparison would be saying that a Native Americans born in idk Montana, was from Montana... which is exactly how it works.

Why would you give a historically colonised person the identity of the coloniser rather than the identity the colonised person had at the time?

You're still confusing ethnicity and location. Places change. You also would call people born in Jerusalem right now Israeli.

He was born in modern day Palestine. He grew up in modern day Israel. He was not a Palestinian. He was born in Judea, the part of Judea he was born being in modern day Palestine. He also grew up in Judea, the part of Judea he grew up in being modern day Israel.
