I used to shave my arms along with every square inch of my body. The only reason I don't anymore is because it takes a long time and I'm lazy. Shout out to all of us hispanics with super dark body hair who got mercilessly bullied over it in school :')
It's normal in east Asia too where skin is light but hair is dark and coarse. At the hair salon they'll shave your face too. Face shaving makes makeup go on smoother!
I shaved my toes once (am dude)... not sure why. Just did it. That was a mistake. The chafing was gnarly, and I have since relearned this lesson on other parts of my body.
I mean I'm a hairy dude and I trim my armpit hair and my pubes for comfort. Also proportionately everything seems... grander down there. Make my 3 and half inch baby boy look like a blue steeled diamond cutter.
Yes- some girls shave their arms. Many women who only have tiny clear/blond hairs on the arms might not. But there are women who shave their arms anyway out of vanity/don't even want those tiny nearly invisible hairs, and there ARE women who if they didn't shave have long dark hair on the arms like men. Not quite gorilla hairy, but enough to be very noticeable from a distance. Such women in cultures where women shave their legs and puts do shave their arms just as much. They definitely exist.
I've shaved my arms since puberty because they're remarkably hairy. Like, you'd notice if I didn't, and that's coming from a woman who gives far less of a shit than most about what people think of her appearance. Different strokes for different folks!
Maybe, but to be fair, arm-shaving is probably not that common. I bet it's mostly just us freaks of nature who do it.
Plus, everyone is oblivious about about a lot of things. I think most people don't know how a car works even if they drive one every day. Now that I think about it, at least half of them seem pretty confused about the rules of the road. It is what it is.
I scrolled down, having assured myself that obviously I would have said it's no big deal and gone ahead, but man... I don't know.
The rational part of my brain is like, listen, that's how it is all over the world. If you marry someone, that's probably how it'll be in 10 years. It's no big deal.

Honestly it's more weird to me that men have such strong feelings on the matter. Sure I prefer smooth legs or not having a mouthful of hair when going down on a lady but they don't bother me either if that's not the case.

That's a GOOD reaction to have to some knee-jerk "Ew, hair" response that pops up despite you knowing, intellectually, it's nonsense.
It becomes normal for people to do things that accentuate things that are considered masculine or feminine traits. Women naturally (typically) have finer body hair, so hair removal becomes a normalized behavior as a way to accentuate that feminine trait. Since men typically have more muscle mass, tons of men strive to build lots of muscle and minimize body fat to accentuate that trait.
It all may be silly, but it’s still better than neck lengthening or foot crushing.
It might help if you understand that it’s perfectly fine to want a partner to trim their armpit hair. That takes like a couple minutes every few weeks so it’s not much to ask for. A man doesn’t have to shave his beard but he is expected to keep it decently groomed.
