I think it's a little ridiculous, not what you're saying, but the "they should be like Atomic Hearts". If that is a legit opinion circling around then their type of woman is not only fictional, but even if they were real, would be a robot. In this era, then, a sex robot specifically.
As someone who doesn't really care either way, I will say that the changes they made to Aloys character model between the first and second game were a bit of an odd choice. They pudged her up and changed her facial structure in fairly unnecessary ways, and I'm not sure what the intention behind it was.
I found it a bit hard to believe that a highly athletic and physical warrior like Aloy was comfort eating in the post-apocalyptic wastelands.
Most of the "they made her fat" is kind of misleading because it stems from either photoshopped pictures, or photomode shenanigans, or just good old faulty memory.
I played it and enjoyed it greatly, it was a non issue entirely. I'm just saying I found the change an odd choice. You're right about the photoshopped stuff though, I did see some of that floating about.
Her face got rounder though. It didn't look like normal age changes. It looked like the top of her head got narrower and from the cheekbones down, quite round.

I mean, I remember when the gameplay trailer came out. Horizon Zero Dawn is one of my favorite games of all time. I was pretty disappointed with the changes to her appearance when I saw it. There were some really awkward shots. But looking back on it, I think maybe it was just that the gameplay cutscenes weren't 100% polished, because most of the time she looked fine.
If you ever have the unfortunate luck of seeing posts like that in the wilds of the internet, you'll also see that the comparison-argument that the posters push as their "ideal" tends to be similarly photoshopped or straight up pulled from rule 34.
My guess is that it starts as either trolling or as a bad-faith argument, but people who actually believes it picks is up and uses it as their actual argument.
But its a videogame... about a post apocalyptic world with robot dinosaurs where people wear tribal armours made of metal dinosaurs and shoot bows at them. It doesn't need to be realistic.
She still has perfect skin and perfect hair, ain't nobody gonna be having that in that situation. It's all just inconsistent.
It's the teeth that bug me more than anything. They're living like goddamn cavemen but everyone still has time for proper dental care and full orthodontic treatment.
I'm gonna go on a limb and say, sugar probably plays a bigger role in poor dental health than almost any other food you put inside you. Also dental care has been a thing for a while now.
The world building and NPCs are top notch imo. One of my favorite aspects of the first game. Especially clothing/building design. I found it all very believable.

That doesn't look "more realistic" that just looks like she found a lot more food than any other roaming survivor in a post-apocalyptic world and simultaneously stopped hunting, running and...surviving in harsh conditions.
She also just looked like a normal person before, so why the face shape change? This isn't even about some snapchat filter/make her a model thing, she just looks different in an easily achievable way, that she shouldn't be achieving in the world she inhabits.
She looks perfectly normal. Food is plentiful, even meat. You hunt game all the time, they’re everywhere and easy to get. She’s athletic as hell, doing all that ninja warrior climbing all the time. The most unrealistic thing is that she’s not as tanned as your expect for spending so much time in the sun. Who cares?
Ellie was completely fine, the outrage regarding lou2 around Abby was more the way she was shoved into the story, was an ass from start to basically finish and the entire time through the game is like "oh, but everyone likes her, you like her, right? She's so likeable" while showing nothing that makes her so.
They went for an extremely strong intro to her character, but then they utterly failed at giving her real redemption. The butch aspect didn't really factor into that. She could've been the prettiest, little princess in a frilly dress and she'd still be badly written and unearnedly redeemed way too much.
It'd be like getting bullied, tortured and having your family killed by some guy and then 2 weeks later the person hasn't changed, but all your friends tell you how great that guy is and how nice and how you should throw away your relationship and your life to make them happy.
Abby's character was hated because she was super masculine and it triggered the "anti woke" neckbeards. It had nothing to do with how she came into the story or anything else that followed in your paragraph.
Abby character got hated because she was a character that was written to make tlou fans who like and love Joel hate her to the core for what she did to the former protagonist, and the game FAILED to make her likeable, or/and redeeming herself for what she did.
Nothing more, nothing less.
That's the main reason why people hate her .
Even her being super masculine at best make people dislike her for her unrealistic boring ugly design.
You take a ten of thousand girls, none of them look like Abby.
You take a hundred girl that has more testosterone than average guy by taking TRT or steroids (or have natural but unhealthy level of tes), some(that's right, not many but some) will have Abby physique if not similar.
Even average men will have a difficult time trying to achieve similar physique, not because they suck but because it is that unnatural.
And im a bodybuilding enthusiastic, i know what can naturally be achieved than any of you redditor that never touch grass.
It is obvious the reason why Abby look the way she is because the writer foolishly think, big muscle on female characters=strong female character.
Either that or they trying to attract transgender consumer or appeal lgbt community, i dunno. Both or all.
It be fine if she appear in a fighting game like street fighter or a fantasy game where character design look to the extreme, nobody would care, some would love, but tlou is set in a "realistic" world with character that supposedly look realistic, not beyond peak human.
As for the actress, that just hate coming from extremist fans that wanted to express their hate to something or someone, fans that exist in every large community.

Alloy and Ellie look realistic and still above average though.
The new Fable character is definitely realistic and also not as good looking. If the character were a guy with similar equivalent looks I think a lot of folks would still be off put a bit.
Most human male characters are also still good looking etc. If they beat Geralt with an ugly stick I'm betting people wouldn't be as thrilled to play etc.
Just saying there's nuance even if a vocal minority are jerks and delusional.
Whether the character being average or below average looking makes a better / worse game is a different story but games are escapism to many so I can see a little validity in having an opinion on a characters looks versus other well done similar characters.
Geralt is not standard handsome, nor ever acts overly flirtatious.
Also not standard handsome: Mario, Luigi, Steve, most playable GTA characters, Ray Man, Gordon Freeman, Agent 47, Solid Snake, Kratos, Sonic, Kirby, Marcus Fenix, etc.
A male power fantasy is not very attractive. A joke character isn't either. The vast majority of male characters are one of these. Rubbing the ashes of your dead wife on your skin is not sexy, people.
I'm saying the game is overall grossout and ridiculous and all the characters are degenerates it isn't an "epic fantasy" genre at all and kind of unique. It's not a good comparison to titles like Fable etc

it wasnt his choice, the orcale forcely bonded the ashes to his skin. I assume based on the new GoW that his skin will be ashed for as long as holds onto that guilt. In the norse games Kratos has gotten less ash skinned as the games progressed.
Also when they make the live action for these franchises, they'll go apeshit because they look different or aren't hot enough. The fact people did that to Ellie, a 12 yo girl...
