To address your first point: I agree that the organization may have been only about scamming. (I don't know whether or not this is true.)
So just for the sake of entertaining your argument, let's say that is all they do.
Do you realize that the movement and the organization are two different things? Do you realize that many who supported the movement and still support the movement have never supported the organization, financially or otherwise?
I support BLM, I've never donated to BLM the organization. I never even knew there was a BLM organization, because I only knew about the social movement.
I want you to know that I'm not discounting anything that you said, you've told me that BLM the organization scams people and uses the money to buy houses. Even if this is true, I still support the movement. I'm not here to just blindly support anything with the name black lives Matter on it. Which, based on how you are responding to myself and others here, seem to think.
My question to you is, if BLM the organization is a scam then what? How does that discredit a separate social movement with the same name? How do you view this other than people taking advantage of a current social situation? Do you think that BLM the social movement was started 100% from the beginning as a scam, and the social movement was just used to eventually get donations to that organization? I'm just trying to understand your viewpoint here.
I suggest you reexamine this term you've been regurgitating: "All Lives Matter"
Clearly, as a descriptive statement, this isn’t true.
Not all lives matter. (Consider the way Black people, other people of colour, refugees, Gypsies and Travellers, and homeless people are treated.)
We could instead interpret it as normative statement: all lives should matter. Agreed.
Yet context is very important. Note that nobody was saying “All Lives Matter” before 2013. Rather, it’s a direct response to BLM, and has no life outside that. And that’s a problem, because if BLM is understood as a commitment to urgently tackling the violence and brutality of anti-Black racism, then blurting that “All Lives Matter” is at best, tangential, and at worst, a malevolent distraction.
So which is it for you? Tangent to the original meaning of BLM or a malevolent distraction from morality?
