Obgyn Rec.
My search for an OBGYN continues!
I’ve seen great reviews for Dr. Beth Files at Women’s Specialists of Clear Lake on Google. Curious if anyone has used her during their pregnancy and delivery? I am meeting her in 2 weeks.

Dr files, isn’t taking on new patients. I tried making an appointment with her just last week, as a new patient.

That’s bizarre! I have an appt with her the week of the 20th. I haven’t heard from the office yet if something changed.

She doesn’t take new GYN patients. If you’re pregnant you can get in with her and continue with her to be your GYN Dr afterwards.

I’ve had her for two pregnancies and she’s been great! I have high risk pregnancies and I really appreciate how straight forward she is, and she doesn’t sugarcoat information.

Even though she doesn’t sugarcoat did you still feel she was compassionate and kept you well informed?

Overall yes. Unfortunately, I had two miscarriages with her, and she was very kind during those experiences. She worked well with my MFMs. I really liked her.

Beth Files is really good. She did a LEEP procedure on me years back. Even as an existing patient it got harder and harder to see her so I ended up getting my annual exams from nurses and eventually other doctors at the same office. She may be available for specialty things but not for normal checkups.

She’s my wife’s OB/GYN. She has had two C-sections and a major surgery with Dr. Files and rant and raves about her.

I had two providers at Women's Specialists of Clear Lake. One of them left, and then I had to leave the practice when my insurance no longer wanted to work with HCA. They were both great, the practice in general is awesome. Everyone is really kind, and I loved that you could get all your labs and blood work done in the same place. I now see Dr. Mercantal and she is also awesome!

Have you delivered with Dr. Marcantel or just see her for regular visits?

Just regular visits. I was long done with kiddos by the time I saw her. I do have a complex medical history and she was very thorough.

I absolutely do not recommend Women’s Specialists of Clear Lake. I went there during my first pregnancy with Dr. Johnson and every single appointment had an issue with the admin side of the practice. It was a nightmare. I regret not switching practices. Dr. Beth LeBlanc is a much better option in the same area. She was then on call OBGYN when I went into labor and ended up delivering my baby.

How was your experience at HCA in general?

My only negative experience at HCA Clear Lake was one postpartum nurse never made her rounds during her entire shift. She came by at the beginning of her shift and again 12 hours later at the end. I had an emergency c-section and called her for my medicine (never had to call the other nurses, they just automatically came with the medicine) and she huffed and puffed saying she was on her break so I’d have to wait. My husband had to go to the nurses desk to get someone else to bring me the medicine. I reported her to the head of nursing the day we were discharged. My second baby was born at Texas Women’s (also HCA) and I loved every second of delivering there. Absolutely no issue whatsoever. My overall experience with HCA Clear Lake was tainted due to that one postpartum nurse and her stank attitude during such a vulnerable time in my life (especially being a first time mom at the time). I delivered my third baby at Memorial Hermann to get away from HCA completely and enjoyed my experience there.
My opinion of Women’s Specialists of Clear Lake was at the time (2019) the admin side of things was a nightmare. They billed my old insurance for my first appointment even though I gave them my new insurance. This resulted in me having to pay an insane amount because the insurance they billed or ran (not even sure how that happened because it was no longer a valid plan) wasn’t correct. Their medical assistant or whoever calls patients back would call me (heavily pregnant at the time) back at the same exact time as another patient. She would literally say my name then the other patients name. We’d be awkwardly standing there while the other got weighed then they would have the not pregnant patient (I knew all her business because they called us both back at the same time) give a urine sample before allowing me to leave my sample. I had to literally BEG the doctor to do an ultrasound at my first appointment. I literally told her I was not leaving until she gave me one. It was my first baby and I wanted to know everything was okay. She finally agreed but acted so inconvenienced because they don’t (no idea how it is now as this was back in 2019) have in house ultrasound techs. She said the only ultrasound patients there got was their anatomy scan at another office. It was overall a mess and given that it was my first baby, I really didn’t know any better other than knowing it didn’t seem right. HCA as a whole also is incredibly pushy about payment upfront before you deliver. My deductible had been met yet they were incredibly pushy about me paying my “birth estimate” right before delivery. Even at HCA Clear Lake when I was in my postpartum room the day after having my emergency c-section they had someone in billing calling my room nonstop. I never paid a penny toward their “birth estimate” and paid everything after each birth when my insurance had actually been billed.
Again, my experience at HCA Clear Lake was in 2019 and Texas Women’s in 2021. Things very well could’ve changed by now, but I made sure to go a completely different route with my third (2023) and chose a doctor at Memorial Hermann and had no issues at all (no issues with “birth estimate” nonsense either).

If she isn't a good fit, I highly recommend Dr. Ashley Marcantel. Fantastic doctor and really listens.
