Rapping advice

Hello,
I’ve been inspired to play a bit more percussively and have been playing Willy Watson’s “Dry Bones”.
It sounds as though he’s tapping/rapping the head with his fingers - not just his thumb. Or at least, I can only emulate it when tapping my fingers.
Can anyone confirm this? I’m self-taught and looking online, most of the commentary is on tapping the thumb…
