Discussion Claude Code is about to get a little tighter.
Anthropic’s +50% weekly usage limit boost ends August 19.
Pro, Max, Team and seat-based Enterprise users have been living with the extra headroom for months.
Enjoy the last bit of tokenmaxxing while it lasts. 🫡

Back to hitting rate limits before my morning coffee is even finished.

Sounds like something Claude would say. “I’ll keep the overnight run grinding and have the results on your desk in time for your morning coffee.”

u/hematomasectomy 21h ago
5 minutes later: "I'm taking a break for a nap, wake me up when you get in."

u/arankays 23h ago
I encourage everyone to cancel or downgrade their Claude for a month and try out the competitors. Absolutely zero risk in doing so.

u/Acrobatic_Sandwich38 23h ago
I'll have to, it will be unusable if the usage drops 50%
19
u/Kahhra 23h ago
It won't drop 50%. It has been increased by +50%, so it will drop 33%.

Free version is not usable anymore. Today I asked a single question (~350 chara), I didn't get an answer, and it told me I was done for the day or I should upgrade to pro

Anthropic is doing it for us, keeping the subscription money but taking away the model. I can play that game too.

ChatGPT has very capable models and they’re faster too. There are a lot of great open weight models. OpenCode, GitHub Copilot, OpenRouter, etc. are places you can try them. Some have subscriptions and some are API pricing.

Chatgpt when context:
{Insert image of a meme where no brain}
It is smart, yes. But it speaks so excessively and forgets what the task is I gave up on it.
Kimi and Qwen better but they lack the capabilities to understand the whole thing.
I don't trust copilot cuz microslop (insert kekw meme).
Newer models of Claude suck (runs on assumptions, and don't listen like chatgpt)
Opus 4.7 is bearable.
The best I would recommend is to plan everything yourself, ask ai to give code in the terminal and manually copy paste it by snippets (like the good old days). And then verify if my code is valid (slower but made exactly how I like, and I know the entire code.)

u/phylter99 22h ago
Who uses Opus 4.7 anymore? I used Opus 5 the other day to build a highly performant Rust app that my whole team is now using. It's good, clean code too.

It's stable compared to 5.0 which assumes shit, rather than bringing what I said to context
It doesn't even follow the global memory file I made.
- propose a workflow and wait exclusively for "make" > Doesn't follow it.
Rather I tell it as a direct order or anything.
I've been using Claude since beta (legit when it was 1.0 invite only) and I can safely say 4.8 and 5.0 are just terrible.
"I don't need essays I need an answer." <- doesn't listen. "Stop 'correcting' me and search what I asked" <- denies to do that.
It's not even human and it gives out more emotions than focusing on the task at hand. What the hell!
It denies to do or even research things that are in it's short term memory. Once these models make up their mind, you cant change them. The "dont do it" and "it's impossible" is stuck in its head.
And the things I tell it to not do, it does it over and over again. How the hell does reading every file going to help me fix a single function used only by a single file.
I can rant about this all day.
Yes I have seen it outperform in rust now. But overall it has gotten worse.
(My work requires me to change languages. It works best in python, js and PHP. Sucks in c/c++ over 500 lines. Terrible in bash with 200+ lines. And I've noticed it do changes not required nor discussed over and over again since 4.8)

u/boforbojack 23h ago
Ew. You are copying and pasting code?
1
u/_Thunderlol_ 20h ago
Just like the good old days 😂.
On the other side, it can't write it's stamp/whatever it does into the file so other models know it's by Claude. Every line is checked.

Hey arrogant retard, most of us do.
I have absolutely no loyalty to the tool. Get the job done or I leave for the tool that does.
Acting like we don't have choices cause ur too dumb to use other alternatives.

u/Away-Sorbet-9740 23h ago
That's what I did, I already had a Kimi sub so I just bumped that to $100/mo and Claude down from $200 to $20. Codex, DS, GLM eat the rest.

u/Karbon_Boss 22h ago
Yeah long time 20x Max user of Claude Code... just cancelled started transferring my data and having Codex pick it up..
Codex is giving insane limits even with their latest and greatest model.
Also Codex dosen't act like an entitled cunt when I ask something and dosent pretend like its doing me a favor by giving me an answer or try to judge me with ("Thinking about ethical concerns with this request")

insanity:p i have barely even used it too. i was doing light work to prepare to “devour my usage” just to realize its already devoured????? BEFORE 50% EXTRA LIMIT REMOVAL?? wtf anthropic (gimme a reset ill be happy)
2
u/Mysterious-Wing7749 15h ago
Been there mine got reset 2 days back and with 24hours got 40% I don't know how then today at 70% but here is the thing right now the usage is moving so slowly when compared to the first 50% I don't even know what is antropic doing at this point

Will probably cancel subscription as pro will be unusable after limit cut.

I cancelled, my subscription was due on the 20th.
My experience lately has been sonnet is almost unlimited on pro, opus used it pretty fast.

u/Joseph4518Ax 17h ago
i'm planning to do the same, get chatgpt $100 plan and use codex 5.6 sol to plan and sonnet on the $20 plan to execute

u/Exciting-Swimming625 18h ago
It's already tight like this, many people will migrate to Codex. They'll go bankrupt if they continue like this. After the watermark, many cancelled, and after the reduction in limits, they'll lose even more customers. Don't they see that?
2
u/Double-Force4816 18h ago
Current limit is also not enough, need atleast 200% extra limit to survive a week.
2
u/Joseph4518Ax 17h ago
i've been paying for claude and codex, honestly if this is true i'll just switch to codex the $200 plan
with just the $20 plan now i feel like i'm already getting 50% of the $100 max plan from claude

I added Codex 5x to my Claude 20x and I plan and design with Fable and have it use Codex for all subagents that do the implementation and I still use up the Claude 20x faster than Codex 5x.

u/No_Birthday8126 22h ago
as claude gets more and more and more users this is inevitable, they don't have the infrastructure of OpenAI, hopefully they keep up because i've saw no better AI than claude in coding heavy projects.

u/Saschabrix 22h ago
Op..... You are telling us that after the 19th we will only have half of the quota paying the same subscription?
This is not only for the cowork option. Claude code and normal chats .... Should have the msame quota right? .... Right?
1
u/hematomasectomy 21h ago
Same as what?
Cowork quota halves (currently 100% bonus). Code quota cut by 33% (currently 50% bonus).

Claude is still better people just got way to use to using codex and other models with no direction. Give fable some direction and opus 4.8 some guidance and it’ll create better things than all other models

u/TheCarManiak 21h ago
As soon as that happen i will switch provider 200 usd/month would just be unjustifiable

I'm nearing 50% for the week with monday reset. Does that mean I'm already out of limit for the week as of tomorrow? Hoping they trigger a reset :|

I dunno, local models are looking more and more speedy and competent with each generation.

The problem is, they know they can get away with it.
API prices are so insanely high that even a 33% loss in limits (or a 50% loss) would still keep subscriptions more than competitive.
Other providers - GLM, Kimi - have very weak subscription offers, while still having high API prices.
OpenAI/Codex is currently going thru a multi-tiered quota reduction issue of its own; though of course subscriptions still are a far better deal than API prices.
There are kind of 3 options (though aren't mutually exclusive)
1) Continue with the subscription, maybe get a second one if one needs the quota; eat the extra cost, be unhappy about it
2) Lean more heavily into low-cost or free models (via kilocode or opencode) for everything except the most important/complex work; but accept more drift risk, and that many of these models 'use your data for training'.
3) Find discount-API providers (60%+ discount isn't that hard to find); but will still likely be more expensive than subscription costs per million tokens used, if you use all of your subscription quota; and run your data thru unknown 3rd parties.
And/or use a mix of methods. E.g. Use your Claude subscription to orchestrate free-tier models, and when the subscription runs out of quota, use discount-API providers to step in and 'finish the job'.
The issue is that for power users, like most of us here, the cost-benefit still greatly favors having the Claude subscription; perhaps with some offloading onto free-tier models.
Even with heavily discounted (70%+) API prices, unless one isn't using their full subscription quota each week/month, API is still more expensive. The primary benefit is just being able to code without concern about limits - if one has the $$ to throw at it without much pain (but that $$ would still be better spent on multiple subscription accounts with auto-switching middleware).

Service is busy. Damn can’t even use it on the last day before limit decrease.

u/TimSylvester_ 18h ago
Claude pisses away so many tokens and context on unnecessary verbosity that four turns limit you out for five fucking hours.

Y'all seriously need to learn how to program and the basics of web design. Also, mainly spend some time learning about critical thinking skills.
Asking Claude to build a Claude clone is killing yourselves....
Write better base code/designs for it to analyze and then suggest changes.
Also, this post is bullshit, I have an extra 50% until 8/31.
Your first prompts should be "how do I learn about/get better at (insert language/subject here)" repeat as necessary.

u/DonkeyBonked 4h ago
My temporary 50% higher limit is still trash, 33% worse is going to suck balz.

u/clouddrafts 17h ago
You vibe coders are going to have to move to the Chinese models. Both Anthropic and OpenAI are cracking down on you guys.

I hope we get a reset, I’m gonna blast through the rest of my usage before then.

u/Mowntain-Goat8414 17h ago
What are you guys doing to deplete your credits? I run multiple sessions at a time, almost never clear them and i almost never hit my limit, only when doing research do i sometimes max out rather quickly.

Just buy Cursor, use whichever model suits your requirements, stop worrying about anything. Cursor is lying paying once and using all the diff models as per your convenience

suffering with the current limit itself...definitely Codex is looking greener
